Palm Pre vs iPhone (I'm a Mac style)

The palm pre is junk. I had one for 2 years and finally scraped it for the new iPhone 4s. I'll have to see how well this phone will hold up but from the weight of this thing and the way it's build i think it'll last til I am due for a new phone.

@BlackSpid3y You should also be aware that Palm has just been bought by HP. This is both good news and bad news in my opinion. HP is most likely to be buiyng Palm for the WebOS of the Pre. It's not clear whether they will be investing in the Pre directly and may choose to go with a new line up of smartphones.

Palm have been very slow to open their SDK so there's not a lot of apps for the Pre at the moment. With HP buying them, there's likely to be a slow period until HP's new plans begin.

i'm not saying the pre is better than the iphone, but i definitely think it's one of the smartphones that have come the closest to it in functionality, UI, and graphics.

Looking at the O2 website, an 8GB Palm Pre with 1200 minutes, 500 texts and unlimited web and wifi use is £45 a month and the phone is free

The phone has been out two weeks and they're saying things like "where are the apps?" Well when the iphone initially came out how many apps were there? Uhhh.... ZERO? I thought so.

But only cause verizon has this thing call extended network which in that other 2% of the world they have a low frequency band which enables you to get service and make calls so pretty much verizon is the best over here there just alil expensive but worth it. AT&T is expensive just alil more then verizon sometimes and they are not worth it at all not to me atleast

Europe (and the UK) uses a lower frequency and a higher density of towers than the US, so we ought to have a more reliable service. And yet iPhone users still report problems with dropped calls here.

that's kinda like america to but we only have one service that has 98% of the U.S.A. covered and thats verizon which is vodafone over there but then the next leading people are at&t and then sprint for coverage but for 3g it goes Sprint, Verizon (Very Very Close Behind) And then AT&T but t-mobile might be up there with AT&T now but sprint is upgrading to 4g so there the best for internet speeds verizon has a more reliable 3g they can get on even when it says that u dont have sometimes

just to give u another idea i have an ipone and when i look on the coverage map it says that my whole state is covered in 3g but i very really see the icon on my screen and i get alright service alot of dropped calls to but when i with sprint i never experienced none of that. what do they use in the uk dont u guys use 3g also.

We do use 3G in the UK, but it's little different. The whole country has about 90% coverage (100% is not attainable because of large unpopulated areas in Scotland). There are still a significant amount of dropped calls. Oddly, one of the current theories here is that it's the Infinieon chipset that has a problem, rather than the network. Personally, I just don't know.

At this point, it's hard to say which is better. The Pre is certainly looking like it's more responsive and snappier. It's likely to have more comprehensive Bluetooth support as the iPhone has deliberately crippled it; supporting only headsets (no file transfers or anything like that).

But what I think is going to be important is the support. The Pre looks great and has a lovely set of features, but is the software going to be there? We'll need to wait and see.

god I HOPE so, I just do NOT want to get an iPhone!! I'm looking at the Pre or Nokia n97 (not multi-touch but still full of features) Or the Omnia HD which records 720p video and outputs to HD TVs.. of course no phone is perfect but it gets close. I wanted the G1 but it didnt have a headphone jack and it was kinda big. I read that the 3.0 firmware will allow more flexibility with bluetooth and also incorporate MMS. too bad i already sold my iphone.

its not possible for the iPhone 2G or 3G's hardware to send a file via bluetooth no matter what, as its chip is based on Bluetooth 1.2. You'd think MMS wouldn't really be something to skip out on in the first place as its the most common way to send a picture, ringtone or slide to someone. For what you get inside the iPhone, its heavily overpriced, despite all the software you can buy.

Actually, somehow it is possible. I have a jailbreak app called iBluetooth and it allows me to send files (music, video, etc.) to other phones through bluetooth. I have no idea how it works though :)
