I love the way Gen. Turgidson lears over at the President after he finished his phonecall, like a schoolboy looking at the teacher after getting away with a prank. Class show.
George C. Scott is at his best in this scene. Outstanding.
I love the lines: "Although I hate to judge before all the facts are in, it's beginning to look like General Ripper exceeded his authority." And how, when asked how soon the bombers will be inside Russian radar, he so matter-of-factly says, "About eighteen minutes from now sir." Classic.
hard to find another film that's disturbingly funny as this one. George C Scott almost steals this one. Which says a lot given the all star cast including the great Peter Sellers.
FYI......Apparently you are not a movie or George Scott fan. Your might want to check out The List of Adrian Messenger, The Hustler, Anatomy of A Murder and The Hanging Tree. All George Scott movies made prior to Dr Strangelove.
Glad to hear about the bumper sticker idea...Yeah the childhood if not latent homosexual/father adorations of what we as men could be is a penchant for a compelling challenge to superb silliness; our need for it as a society or at least those with their natural, body fluids.
You have to love the Air Force General next to Scott during those upward shots. He has a look that says; "I've taken laxatives for 4 days now, I hope today's the day."
Look @ 0:51 - 0:58 Peter Sellers gives a look that makes me laugh everytime, it shows that he doesn't have to say anything to be funny. I think I'm the only one who thinks this part is funny, he looks as though Scott said a dirty swear word at him.
That was always a interesting shot because if you notice, Sellers was the only one in the whole room who showed any sign of emotion at all. What make Scott's role so great is that he was so matter of factly about this doom disaster while displaying all the wildness that nervous energy could muster.
This war room footage is the best part of the film. It's absolutely brilliant because it's so believable. George C. Scott's best performance in my opinion, exceeding even Patton.
I agree with you, athough Scott himself certainly wouldn't. In the bonus features of the DVD, James Earl Jones said Scott wasn't happy at all with how he came off, and thought Kubrick manipulated him into overacting. I guess it's just another testament to Kubrick's genius that he can bring out the best in an actor, even when the actor himself doesn't want to give it.
the greatest fucking movie of all time

I seen this film being shared on Demonoid.
And yea.. Whatever is transcoded to Google video often looks like crap. What do you expect for Flash? Adobe sucks.

I wondering if that's where the band picked up the name? FYI, this was George C. Scott's first film... didn't happen until he was 42.
