I wonder if Ron Paul rejects germ theory as "just a theory". While I do like most of his views on the constitution, the economy, and foreign policy his stance on abortion is blatantly based on his religious views though presented as being about the constitution. This strikes me as intellectually dishonest. I wouldn't vote for any person who holds onto irrational beliefs out of fear and pride when the decisions they make based on those beliefs will affect everyone. Better than most but still bad.
Ron Paul: He has never voted to raise taxes. He has never voted for an unbalanced budget. He has never voted to raise congressional pay. He voted against the Patriot Act. He voted against regulating the Internet. He voted against the Iraq war.He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program. He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year. Save America and vote for the Rights of the Individual! Vote Ron Paul 2012!
He's got a much better chance in 2012 now that people will be able to run ads about him 60 days before the election.
I would love to see a presidential campaign that isn't just "Hey look, the other guy really sucks, so vote for us!!" 3 parties would be needed for that.
Hey shane! This has nothing to do with politics, but I just wanted to give you a quick fact: Ron Paul has stated several times that evolution is "just a theory" and should be given equal time with "other theories"
@winner0loser No, he hasn't. Stop lying. He said that he didn't care and if that were the issue of the day he'd just stay home and not bother running for office. And he voted against Santorum's amendment to No Child Left Behind that would have allowed "other theories."
Speaking of taxes, here's how to reform our tax system: abolish all taxes, all sources of government revenue, period. Start from ground zero with a nation sales tax of 1% (obviously there would be state sales taxes too, but hopefully, they'd get lowered to no more than 1%).
This would give us a total taxation of 1%-2% of GDP. Or no less than $132 billion to $264 billion a year. Not bad if we get rid of uneeded govn't spending. :P
This would greatly increase growth and freedom, so the amount the gov't makes would be increasing too.
It would simplify the tax system, freeing up labor and time. It would allow even poor people to pay less in taxes (much less if we eliminate the inflation tax, as would happen in this plan).
Just to end this off, I wanted point out the reason I asked for the positive societal results of the "leave it to the states" position you and Ron Paul take on abortion:
The same reason I want to hear why Capitalism is better than either Corporatism AND socialism for society as a whole.
Because that's what matters to me.
The constitution is important, but it's not God.
As you yourself said, no one is infallible.
That includes the people who wrote the constitution.
Granted, if real life results aren't in the best interest of the USA from what's in the constitution, (when backed up with good evidence and sound reasoning like the economic arguments are) we can always amend it if worst comes to worst.
Well, that's the idea: amend the Constitution if something else is needed. If you say it's okay to violate the Constitution to, say, run a welfare state, then you're a hypocrite if you also accuse someone else of violating the First Amendment.
"Well, that's the idea: amend the Constitution if something else is needed."
Indeed :)
"If you say it's okay to violate the Constitution to, say, run a welfare state, then you're a hypocrite if you also accuse someone else of violating the First Amendment."
Something that always perplexes me about both liberals and conservatives.
Why doesn't the Federal Government have the authority in terms of the constitution?
(What part of the constitution are you referring to?)
Also, do you have evidence showing that when the federal government does intrude into the matter either way it hurts moreso than it helps (less rights of women to abortion and/or more wasted tax dollars?)
The Constitution doesn't work that way. The way it works is, if the power isn't given in Article I Section 8 or in an amendment, the government doesn't have it. And there's nothing in there about abortion.
As for the effect, I just have a question: is there any reason to think a War on Abortion would work any more than the War on Drugs?
"The Constitution doesn't work that way. The way it works is, if the power isn't given in Article I Section 8 or in an amendment, the government doesn't have it. And there's nothing in there about abortion."
Fair enough.
"As for the effect, I just have a question: is there any reason to think a War on Abortion would work any more than the War on Drugs?"
"The Constitution doesn't work that way. The way it works is, if the power isn't given in Article I Section 8 or in an amendment, the government doesn't have it. And there's nothing in there about abortion."
I heard R.P going on about the privacy rights of individuals in the video.
Doesn't a woman's right to an abortion fall under that right?
Speaking of the war on drugs, if people should be allowed to ef themselves up, shouldn't women be allowed to do with their own bodies as they want?
Yes, the Supreme Court can overturn a particular abortion law on privacy grounds, but they overstepped their constitutional bounds by setting policy for the states. If a state can craft an abortion law that doesn't run afoul of privacy (or any other rights), there should be no problem from a Federal point of view.
With drugs there's no one else involved. With abortion, there is, whether you consider the fetus to be a person or just a potential person. That's a BIG difference.
I can't give you an example, but I'm not so arrogant as to think that if I can't think of a way it can happen there must not be one.
I agree there has to be SOME point where it becomes a person, but I don't know where that would be. Birth seems a stupid criteria, though; what about preemies? Do they have to wait until their due date to be people?
To shift gears for a minute, I am somewhat iffy about RP's abortion policy ideas, his opinion on immigration and his thoughts on church-state separation.
Granted, even if all of those were at their worst possible (which they aren't: I'd settle for "leave it to the states" instead of full legalization for other reasons).
In my state of Maryland, I was near the top of my class, and one of the smartest in the school, yet by the looks of what you know that I don't, and by the scoring of Maryland (C in Evolution, D in science) it looks like I got the short end of the stick, despite a bunch of AP science and math classes.
By breaking the government monopoly of education, it should (?) make private education more common and drive prices down and quality up via competition.
To add to the abortion issue, if people are less burdened by inflation, that should make it easier to move and have abortions done in states where it is legal, if the need arises.
Going back to education, I wouldn't also mind seeing them (especially public schools) teach both abstinence and protection. It helps with STD and teen pregnancy greatly.
While the constitution talks of rights to life, liberty and happiness, I thought I saw in one of your videos that that only applies to people who are already born.
(Feel free to correct me on this.)
(PS: Did you watch the links I showed you from The Atheist Experience about the abortion issue? If so, what did you think of them?)
I was REFUTING that. The claim was the Constitution says you have to be born to be a person, and it doesn't say that. It says if you're born in the US you're a citizen, but that's an entirely different thing. Rights are not dependent on citizenship.
I haven't watched those yet. I can't imagine myself disagreeing with them too strongly.
Do you want hope?do you want something better?Vote for RON PAUL.if this is your favorite canidate for pres. join my group now it's called,RON PAUL/HOPE FOR AMERICA.Join today freedom is just a few clicks away.-This is joshua pres. of the club and i approve this comment .
No, it isn't. If you have the right to your life, you have a right to defend your life. Plain and simple.
It's the people who believe in gun control who are for the killing--since criminals by definition don't obey the law and will always be able to get guns.
Deontology (duty ethics) agrees with you. However, I'm a consequentialist. What matters for me is the amount of crime first because I value life over defense. I agree that if we ban guns then some criminals will still be able to get ahold of them. However, recently being mugged, I don't think a majority of criminals would be able to do so. I think the reduction in availability of guns would save more lives than defensive measures taken with guns (I couldn't have pulled a gun in my position).
What I think determines how I vote - thus, insofar as the democratic issue is concerned, it is of a modicum of relevance. I'm just saying I find it not to be such a simple issue. Legality of guns helps ward off criminals, but also makes it easier to be one, but illegality of guns makes it more difficult to ward off criminals, but makes it more difficult to become a criminal. You have a reasonable position, and may be right - use that reason to convince people and overcome their emotions.
But it isn't a democratic issue, because we aren't a democracy. You can't vote your rights away.
We have a right to defend ourselves, form mutual protection societies, hire security, etc. That is EXACTLY how it's legitimate for the government to have a police force and a military in the first place! Without the right of self-defense, the rest crumbles.
I disagree, but that mean I'm right. But here's my case: if we vote to outlaw guns, then we give up a freedom (a right) to carry guns in an attempt to protect our right to life. This might be effective, or it might exacerbate the problem. We do have the choice (as far as we can influence the legislature) about the law. Keep in mind, though, the outlaw of citizens carrying guns doesn't include the police force and military. The debate becomes should we disarm our citizens to disarm our enemies?
No, because in order to get there we have to determine that disarming ourselves WOULD disarm our enemies, and all of the evidence says that it wouldn't.
Then there's the issue of what happens when the police and the military become corrupt. Who watches the watchmen?
Finally, even getting past all that, as Ben Franklin said, those who would give up their essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
If the evidence supports it, by all means. As per who watches the watchmen, gun control would have mattered in the days when militia stood a chance against the military, but today it wouldn't do so well. We can still watch our watchmen, but not with guns - we have to resort to other methods (democracy?). That is a good point, though. Last, we give up our liberty to drive fast in order to keep all people from speeding. Is that not to be commended? So, if the evidence works, I'm with you.
That is actually not true at all. An increase in guns has been proven to lead to an increase in crime, not a decrease. Where are you getting your facts?
Vote Ron Paul and open up a real 911 Cover up investigation. The lies just keep piling up by the Bush administration and Marshall Law is not far away.
Going For Gold moneybomb still needs over 3m to hit target by Feb 5th !! Please donate today. No amount is too small. Spread the word. ronpaul2008 dot com
McCain is a NWO in disguise. There is no difference any more between Dems and Reps. They are all NWO freaks that care only about lining their own pockets and handing themselves total power.
RON PAUL tells the truth about this, and that's why they try to push him out of debates, and why you see losers like O'Reilly talking crap on him all the time.
your ignorant, you think that ron paul is the only choice for america. This is the only person that should be voted for. You are wrong because people vote for Romney, Huckabee, and finally for McCain. so what's the problem? McCain 2008
what you do noy understand is that everyone has a different opinion which you do not understand. Yes McCain is in the lead and Ron Paul has no chance a million to 1. He is an isolationist which this country does not need
you do not know what you are talking about. we had to make sure they did not have nuclear weapons. what if they did? you just do not understand. by the way you said McCain will get us more terrorism its McCain will give us more terrorism. Do you think that Ron Paul will actually win? he has not won in any states yet. why do you think McCain is winning
even if we were not in iraq we would still have terrorism. The iraq war was necessary not because of oil which a lot of people think which is pretty stupid but to prevent nuclear weapons. It was necessary to stop sudam hussein. and we invaded afghanastan. because of bin laden which is necessary. we believe invading them becaue there is a significant reason to. If we did not there would have been an earlier world war III which is still going to occur eventually
Iraq didn't HAVE nuclear weapons. It didn't have a nuclear weapons PROGRAM. It didn't have any PLANS for a nuclear weapons program.
And there was NO CONNECTION WHATSOEVER between Iraq and bin Laden/Al Qaeda.
Everything you have said is absolutely and pathetically WRONG. And you're backing the wrong guy as a result. McCain will get us more terrorism, Ron Paul less.
We're *already* an isolated country, because we don't believe in talking with other countries. We believe in invading them, and THAT'S why we have terrorism.
Ron Paul for president 08.America deserves a good president this time around! The other's are not in it for the people. We need a change and Ron Paul will help USA.Let everyone know that we are mostly normal people with a sense of concern for the direction of the nation. We are ordinary citizens who seriously want our country back.Limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, a return to sound monetary policies and a foreign policy of freedom: peace, commerce, and honest friendship.
im a ron paul supporter, but people please, stop talking about the cfr, the amero, the 9/11 truth.. most people dont want to hear that stuff and it just turns them away. Im saying this on ron pauls better good.. it just scares people away knowing that stuff. Just be patient people ron paul will be a jedi :P

So American should stop taking care of the world?.....but weve cause so much damage shouldnt we clean up?,
Who will police the world, help the world, and what about those conflicts that need force, are we just gonna back out of world problems like prior to WW2?
So he couldnt get a bill passed?...guess he cant convince other people and he cant work well in a bipartisan basis.
You would have to be pretty ignorant not to vote for FREEDOM. We NEED Ron Paul for President to get this country on track with sound money, a choice of alternative health treatments, I don't want to need a prescription for a vitamin supplement in the future. Ron Paul has my vote for President. He is my choice. Any other candidate would be a HUGE MISTAKE for our future & that of our kids and grandkids.
YYYYYYYYEAH. Ron Paul is the Rambo in Washington, ready to kick some ass and take out the bullshit. And hey, WHOA, he's WAY better than your current leader who makes extremely hilarious speeches. Whoa, Brazil is big.
"Paul's specific remedies for what ails our nation amount to the political equivalent of patent-medicine quackery. He discredits the cause of liberty by associating it with his weird and dangerous brand of utopianism."
"Paul's request for $400 million in earmarks in 2007."
"Paul's plan to abolish the Federal Reserve system is dangerous."
"Ron Paul's foreign policy of nonintervention is utopian silliness dressed up in the outdated language of Washington."

I think we can beat ron paul if we crush his movement now, by spiritually demoralizing his followers and desecrating his ideas, especially by mocking him and showing him no mercy.
Republican fund raising frontrunner Ron Paul will be excluded from a Fox News Forum scheduled for just two days before the New Hampshire Primary.
Paul's campaign said that according to the New Hampshire State Republican Party and an Associated Press report, Republican presidential candidate and Texas Congressman Ron Paul will be excluded from an upcoming forum of Republican candidates to be broadcast by Fox News on January 6, 2008. The decision appears to have been made by Fox News.
No one watches FOX News, and they have lost a number of sponsors because they excluded Ron Paul, but ABC NEWS made him shine! It's no longer a secret that FoX News is FAUX news. There is currently a boycott on for remaining sponsors of FAUX news. They have such a turnaround at FOX, if the news reporter challenges any issue, they are history. Freedom of the press? I think NOT!
yes ron paul is great. But please remember to vote for these ideas and beliefs rather than for an individual man, and once his admin. is in power keep and eye on him and them. Because power WILL corrupt even the best of men.
Hardly anyone remembers what a "real republican" is because there aren't any left......Except Ron Paul. The GOP has lost it's way, and if Ron Paul isn't elected they will be lost forever.......SCHOOL those NEOCONS mister Paul!
I wish we had a man like Ron Paul as our leader, to stop the hundreds of thousands of anti-White hordes flooding into our country every single year, to stop unjust wars in which our brave troops are dying every day (I mean Iraq) and to stop the murder of unborn children that happens every single day.
I remember why I became a Republican, way back when. I remember smaller government, less socialism, more freedom, fewer taxes being the watchwords. Where oh where has my party gone? Vote Ron Paul in your primary.
How the hell do you associate Ron Paul with that? He's voted AGAINST all of those things. He's constantly worked for a sound dollar and to stop inflation, he's NEVER voted for a budget with a deficit, he's constantly voted for the Constitution and against the erosion of our liberties, and he's been against the war since Day One.
You shouldn't judge people by labels or by groups. Only judge them as individuals.
I just saw a video of the S.F. staw poll that really pissed me off. They canceled the poll when Ron Paul supporters showed up. Friggin amazing. Watch this and send the SF GOP an e-mail.
Ron Paul is bringing people together because he is the only candidate whose policies, principles and ideals would allow Americans to live in freedom, cooperation and peaceful coexistence. He is the only candidate who will not be used to by some Americans to rule, control and rob other Americans. Ron Paul is the only candidate who understands that freedom is the solution to the human condition. This is a whole new ball game. This is not one group against another.
I am an old veteran and I personally believe that Ron Paul is the best man for the job. I do not agree with all of his issues but I do believe that he is the only candidate that is not lying to the American people. I think that he is a true "PATRIOT"!
A 1992 newsletter by Republican congressional candidate Ron Paul highlighted portrayals of blacks as criminally inclined and lacking sense about top political issues.
Reporting on gang crime in Los Angeles, Paul commented: "If you have ever been robbed by a black teen-aged male, you know how unbelievably fleet-footed they can be."
your point being? what are you...in Giuliani's pocket? on Mitt Romney's payroll? which is it metal71? who do you support, if not Ron Paul? I know..you want more of the same. I bet you'd vote for bush/cheney in '08 if you could, wouldn't you? Vote Ron Paul '08, you know deep down that he is by far the best candidate in any party. I'll be awaiting your belligerent tangent of a reply. :)
He is the only REAL republican left! He follows the constitution, he is for our liberties, he cares about the people! He is our only one with a chance against Hillary and Guiliani/Romney!
Amazing! This guy is real!!!! Do everything you can to spread the message... make and print flyers, nock on doors, Make signs, hang them in your windows with a light at night, purchase Ron Paul Gear, now and have it fed-EX to your house!!!
Time is getting very short!!! WE NEED TO ACT NOW!!! TELL EVERYONE ABOUT RON PAUL!!!!

Are you insane?
He supports us pulling out of iraq because we were the bad bullies who poked them first. It's ridiculous he thinks this because any intelligent human being can figure out that the terrorists attacking us are not doing it because they hate us being there, it's because they hate us!! They hate everything America stands for and this man has proved a disgrace to the republican party and America as a whole. This man is NO republican.
Have you even watched any of the videos these terrorist groups have made?? Have you even looked at the Koran? You're telling me to go and review my history, I'd suggest you'd do the same. You can't avoid the truth, no matter how easy Ron Paul makes it for you.
Trueblue your a good example how the scare tactics work! Switch-off your TV and switch-off Fox News. They hate non cause your way of living they hate cause people come and rape, kill, loot and burn their homes. Now here the question: Has Iraq ever been a threat to the US or the world? Did they ever attack the US or any other nation? Its a wrecked third world nation with some idiots (terrorists) feeded to keep the war going!
You honestly have never even seen any of the videos made by the terrorists, have you? You believe everything the liberal media tells you about how we just charge and ransack everything we see in iraq. I know a soldier over there, and his reports paint us MUCH different pictures than what the liberal media has shown. Al Queda and all the terrorist groups hate us because we have what they can't. Wake up and face the truth.
Hey trueblue -- Islamists do not want what we hold and cherish: a constitutional, secular, capitalist democrary where the citizens have protected rights under the constitution. Individual liberty, dissent, choice scare these Islamists savages. They resent
The fact that we have the freedom and abilities to be the greatest superpower the world has ever seen is another way of putting it. Our freedoms enable us to be the greatest nation in history. Maybe that's a more understandable way of putting it (no sarcasm intended).
Today's the day to express our thanks to Ron Paul! He has asked us for our help NOW and his campaign has said that the Dec 16 Tea Party will be too late to impact the crucial early primaries. Money is needed NOW! I just donated my $100 and I know that we can "stuff" Dr. Paul's campaign with cash today if we all give what we can! Let's show the "turkeys" who don't believe that Dr. Paul can win that we are not taking a day off! The fight for liberty continues! Donate Today & help post this!
My heart goes out to the u.s. and to Ron Paul! I thought the World is lost but after seeing and hearing Ron tears of hope run down my face he speaks from his heart.
I know the Americans did stand with us though we done shit in WW II now I stand (hope) with you to get out of your shit!
In between the turkey dinner and football games...
Get to your computer and DONATE on THANKSGIVING DAY (this Thurs. Nov. 22).
WE need a big "MONEY BOMB" day between now and the Big BOSTON TEA PARTY MONEY BOMB on Dec. 16th so we CAN hit the goal for the quarter of $12 million BEFORE the end of NOV.!
It's nice to see so many people supporting Ron Paul, but will he really make it ? We must act and seriously bring this guy into the white house... otherwise, America will be doomed. People think "doomed, lol ah go away you're full of it", no... everything is going downhill and this guy seems to be the only candidate to bring the US back up.
The TeaParty07 is independent. It's folks like you and me who want to create another "money bomb" like the one on Nov. 5 tha got nationwide attention. Ron Paul isn't the one promoting it, it's folks like you and me. I'm sure he will be happy with the results however! And the spirit of the Boston Tea Party is easily adaptable to our current crisis.
I hope that at least partway answers your question. Shanedk did an excellent job putting this together. I hope Ron Paul sees it.
I also support Dr. Ron Paul for the following reasons:
He adheres to the hands-off philosophy of the Austrian School of Economics.
He believes that our foreign policy needs correction and has influenced a lot of the problems we face today.
Ron Paul truly believes that the current federal government is wasteful and he would like to turn America back in the direction that made this a great country.
To the Rudy poster. How proud are you to work on the Rudy campaign? I'm a devout Republican and win or lose, come hell or high water, this is one campaign I'll always be proud to be a part of. Will you be abe to say that?
How embarassing! Ron Paul NEEDS that 4.3 million just to STAY IN THE RACE!
Ronnie Poo is the only candidate in DIRE NEED of money. Maybe I can get Rudy to toss him a few million. You know - just to pay the light bills for a bit...
Ron Paul's campaign is like a sub-prime borrower who is using a credit card to make their house payments.
Bankruptcy is inevitable.
God, I love watching crazy people throw good money away!
"Ron Paul's campaign is like a sub-prime borrower who is using a credit card to make their house payments."
No, that's the other guys--especially Romney. Paul's campaign is the only one that ISN'T in debt. It's also the only one that doesn't get tons of money from big corporate lobbyists.
I wonder if Ron Paul rejects germ theory as "just a theory". While I do like most of his views on the constitution, the economy, and foreign policy his stance on abortion is blatantly based on his religious views though presented as being about the constitution. C) an even blacker candidate

In retrospect that means less tax dollars from the federal government spent either for or against it.

Just to end this off, I wanted point out the reason I asked for the positive societal results of the "leave it to the states" position you and Ron Paul take on abortion:
The same reason I want to hear why Capitalism is better than either Corporatism AND socialism for society as a whole.

Surhotchaperchlorome 2 years ago
The Constitution doesn't work that way. The way it works is, if the power isn't given in Article I Section 8 or in an amendment, the government doesn't have it. And there's nothing in there about abortion.
As for the effect, I just have a question: is there any reason to think a War on Abortion would work any more than the War on Drugs?
shanedk 2 years ago
"The Constitution doesn't work that way. The way it works is, if the power isn't given in Article I Section 8 or in an amendment, the government doesn't have it. And there's nothing in there about abortion."
Fair enough.
"As for the effect, I just have a question: is there any reason to think a War on Abortion would work any more than the War on Drugs?"
I'm pro choice.

*EDIT*
"The Constitution doesn't work that way. The way it works is, if the power isn't given in Article I Section 8 or in an amendment, the government doesn't have it. And there's nothing in there about abortion."
I heard R.P going on about the privacy rights of individuals in the video.
Doesn't a woman's right to an abortion fall under that right?
Speaking of the war on drugs, if people should be allowed to ef themselves up, shouldn't women be allowed to do with their own bodies as they want?
Surhotchaperchlorome 2 years ago
Yes, the Supreme Court can overturn a particular abortion law on privacy grounds, but they overstepped their constitutional bounds by setting policy for the states. If a state can craft an abortion law that doesn't run afoul of privacy (or any other rights), there should be no problem from a Federal point of view.
With drugs there's no one else involved. With abortion, there is, whether you consider the fetus to be a person or just a potential person. That's a BIG difference.
shanedk 2 years ago
I'm not sure what the SC did, or the specifics of the laws in all accounts you are mentioning.
What would be an example of state abortion law and doesn't run a foul of privacy and/or other rights?
I don't consider the fetus to be a person, anymore than I consider a zygote to be a person.
Granted, something on both Abortion and Drugs that I'm a bit...iffy about is a pregnant woman who wants to do hard drugs...
Surhotchaperchlorome 2 years ago
I can't give you an example, but I'm not so arrogant as to think that if I can't think of a way it can happen there must not be one.
I agree there has to be SOME point where it becomes a person, but I don't know where that would be. Birth seems a stupid criteria, though; what about preemies? Do they have to wait until their due date to be people?
shanedk 2 years ago
OK.
"Do they have to wait until their due date to be people? "
I disagree.
Your example is a bit ridiculous.
The preemie comes out of the mother's vagina, ergo it is born, so that's somewhat Irrelevant.
Surhotchaperchlorome 2 years ago
You missed the point: the very same baby might still have been in its mother's womb. What would be the difference?
shanedk 2 years ago
That it's out of the womb: the mother's body is no longer part of the equation.
Surhotchaperchlorome 2 years ago
To shift gears for a minute, I am somewhat iffy about RP's abortion policy ideas, his opinion on immigration and his thoughts on church-state separation.
Granted, even if all of those were at their worst possible (which they aren't: I'd settle for "leave it to the states" instead of full legalization for other reasons).
Surhotchaperchlorome 2 years ago
Here are those reasons.
1. Education reform.
Surhotchaperchlorome 2 years ago
2. ECONOMIC REFORM!!!!
The video speaks for itself on this one.
Enough has already been said on this.
Surhotchaperchlorome 2 years ago
@shanedk
Irrelevant.
While in the womb, the baby, is a part of the mother's body; her body, her right.
While out of the womb, it is now self sustaining.
Disclaimer: Even if it is her right, doesn't mean I would like whatever decision a woman would make with a new life like that...
I'm just not convinced the state is the solution to that issue...
PS: Yes, I do revive old threads on occasion.
Because I can. :P
Surhotchaperchlorome 1 year ago
While the constitution talks of rights to life, liberty and happiness, I thought I saw in one of your videos that that only applies to people who are already born.
(Feel free to correct me on this.)
(PS: Did you watch the links I showed you from The Atheist Experience about the abortion issue? If so, what did you think of them?)
Surhotchaperchlorome 2 years ago
I was REFUTING that. The claim was the Constitution says you have to be born to be a person, and it doesn't say that. It says if you're born in the US you're a citizen, but that's an entirely different thing. Rights are not dependent on citizenship.
I haven't watched those yet. I can't imagine myself disagreeing with them too strongly.
shanedk 2 years ago
Oooooooooh.
OK. State it more clearly next time.
I couldn't tell what you were referring to.
OK. It's a very interesting episode set.

Ron is true.
But you Americans have to accept the human evolution. God is ganna be the biggest lie of the history of man in a few hundred years.
And something is very strange.
Ron is against war and killing, but he still says people should have right to have guns. Thats abit like saying against himself, isnt it?
TokFaen 4 years ago
No, it isn't. If you have the right to your life, you have a right to defend your life. Plain and simple.
It's the people who believe in gun control who are for the killing--since criminals by definition don't obey the law and will always be able to get guns.
shanedk 4 years ago
Deontology (duty ethics) agrees with you. However, I'm a consequentialist. What matters for me is the amount of crime first because I value life over defense. I agree that if we ban guns then some criminals will still be able to get ahold of them. However, recently being mugged, I don't think a majority of criminals would be able to do so. I think the reduction in availability of guns would save more lives than defensive measures taken with guns (I couldn't have pulled a gun in my position).
hmv12321 3 years ago
What you THINK isn't relevant. The evidence shows that FAR more crimes are prevented by armed citizens than would EVER be prevented by gun control.
shanedk 3 years ago
What I think determines how I vote - thus, insofar as the democratic issue is concerned, it is of a modicum of relevance. I'm just saying I find it not to be such a simple issue. Legality of guns helps ward off criminals, but also makes it easier to be one, but illegality of guns makes it more difficult to ward off criminals, but makes it more difficult to become a criminal. You have a reasonable position, and may be right - use that reason to convince people and overcome their emotions.
hmv12321 3 years ago
But it isn't a democratic issue, because we aren't a democracy. You can't vote your rights away.
We have a right to defend ourselves, form mutual protection societies, hire security, etc. That is EXACTLY how it's legitimate for the government to have a police force and a military in the first place! Without the right of self-defense, the rest crumbles.
shanedk 3 years ago
I disagree, but that mean I'm right. But here's my case: if we vote to outlaw guns, then we give up a freedom (a right) to carry guns in an attempt to protect our right to life. This might be effective, or it might exacerbate the problem. We do have the choice (as far as we can influence the legislature) about the law. Keep in mind, though, the outlaw of citizens carrying guns doesn't include the police force and military. The debate becomes should we disarm our citizens to disarm our enemies?
hmv12321 3 years ago
No, because in order to get there we have to determine that disarming ourselves WOULD disarm our enemies, and all of the evidence says that it wouldn't.
Then there's the issue of what happens when the police and the military become corrupt. Who watches the watchmen?
Finally, even getting past all that, as Ben Franklin said, those who would give up their essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
shanedk 3 years ago
If the evidence supports it, by all means. As per who watches the watchmen, gun control would have mattered in the days when militia stood a chance against the military, but today it wouldn't do so well. We can still watch our watchmen, but not with guns - we have to resort to other methods (democracy?). That is a good point, though. Last, we give up our liberty to drive fast in order to keep all people from speeding. Is that not to be commended? So, if the evidence works, I'm with you.
hmv12321 3 years ago
Typo in the first line: I meant "I disagree, but that doesn't mean I'm right."
hmv12321 3 years ago
That is actually not true at all. An increase in guns has been proven to lead to an increase in crime, not a decrease. Where are you getting your facts?

what you do noy understand is that everyone has a different opinion which you do not understand. Yes McCain is in the lead and Ron Paul has no chance a million to 1. He is an isolationist which this country does not need
zugzwang101 4 years ago

you do not know what you are talking about. we had to make sure they did not have nuclear weapons. what if they did? you just do not understand. by the way you said McCain will get us more terrorism its McCain will give us more terrorism. Do you think that Ron Paul will actually win? he has not won in any states yet. why do you think McCain is winning
zugzwang101 4 years ago
"we had to make sure they did not have nuclear weapons."
We were ALREADY sure, according to BOTH sets of UN inspectors, the first led by Scott Ritter and the second by Hans Blix.
"why do you think McCain is winning "
Because unfortunately most people in this country are as pathetically misinformed as you are.
shanedk 4 years ago
even if we were not in iraq we would still have terrorism.
McCain 2008
zugzwang101 4 years ago
Iraq didn't HAVE nuclear weapons. It didn't have a nuclear weapons PROGRAM. It didn't have any PLANS for a nuclear weapons program.
And there was NO CONNECTION WHATSOEVER between Iraq and bin Laden/Al Qaeda.
Everything you have said is absolutely and pathetically WRONG. And you're backing the wrong guy as a result. McCain will get us more terrorism, Ron Paul less.
shanedk 4 years ago
lets vote ron paul so we could become an isolated country and still become attacked by terror even more.
zugzwang101 4 years ago
We're *already* an isolated country, because we don't believe in talking with other countries. We believe in invading them, and THAT'S why we have terrorism.

Explain something to me:
Why does Ron Paul get more donations from active duty service men and women than all of the other Republican candidates COMBINED???
And why don't you read the reports of the CIA, the 9/11 Commission, and the intelligence experts?
In fact, those terrorist videos you mention talk about nothing but our troops being over there.

What about my questions?

Picture this thought:

A message to all REPUBLICANS:
Ron Paul is a liberal pacifist who will surrender to the terrorists!
TRUE Republicans fight the hard fight; they do NOT run when the going gets tough.
Islamic terrorism and their hate for us are real.
I urge everyone to support the Republican who will not retreat in defeat.
Support Rudy in'08!

It's also the only one that doesn't get tons of money from big corporate lobbyists.
shanedk 4 years ago
And Ron Paul is the only one who will be wasting every penny he spends.
Romney is moot - who cares about him?
Do something useful with that money - donate it to Iraq War vets and their families...
