There is a machanical switch thats better than reed switches that wear out, its called a distributer thats used in cars. Its an almost perfect machanical switch design to get the perfect back EMF (bright white light) spike to use as an regenerative effect. I'd rotate it with a small electric motor and share the central positive with seperate negatives and I'd even thought about placing magnets at each distributor point to blow out the discharge for sharper back EMF discharges.
