I'm not denying the obvious fact that Roman culture owed a great deal of its basis to the ancient Greek culture, but it was the Roman empire the one which spread the culture throughout Europe, not the greeks.
On the other hand, the theories about the Greek influence in America are ludicrous. Greek denonyms in America do exist because some European conquerors (either Spanish, English, Portuguese or whatever) decided to give that certain place a name honouring a Greek myth (e. g. Amazonas).

I agree with you about Amazonas. But there are many other toponyms that don't have a clear explanation. At Colombia for example there is a region called Antioquia. It is 100% clear to us that this name comes from the greek one Antiocheia (Αντιοχεια), which is an acnient greek city, founded at 4th c. BC! Search antioquia or Antioch and you will see. These names usually come from the Pre-Hispanic populations. Mayan populations call God with the word TEO. At greek it is ΘΕΟΣ...Why?

let's be clear. the culture of ancient athens has had a lot of influence on the world.
the modern culture of greece has no influence at all, it is a feta-cheese republic that discriminates against immigrants, has not separated church and state and is the only country in europe that does not recognize any minorities.

lol.. dude, c'mon. almost all spanish and english languages are derived from ancient greek or latin, and america has modeled itself after greece and rome so of coarse we're going to have islands and cities named after greek cities. as for the ancient structures and designs found the americas.. you would have to expect out of all the billions of cultures in the entire world some would come up with similar ideas at some point in time. ex: pyramids in egypt, pyramids in south america.

Same thing with Polynesia and other names in South America. Very often the conquerers, used greek names, to let there own city foundations feel more "glorious" to the greeks past.
You will find in the UnitedStated a lot of Athens, Laconia, Theben and stuff. And believe me, theses cities have ben just ordinary named after the Greek ideal.
So do me please a favor, and dont disperse wrong roumors and pseuso-archeology.
