Let me just mention also the effectiveness of the climax of this program: rather than do the routine combination jumps followed by a camel spin for instance, he goes into a lovely spiral. Every bit well thought out and executed.
Took me a while to realize this, but Mark Mitchell’s “Don Quixote” is probably my favorite program ever in skating. I love the ingenious choreography and how every artistic element is incorporated seamlessly with the skating. Too much bad choreography involves very literal interpretations of the music and skaters making gimmicky gestures (e.g. Plushenko), or simply dancing on the ice (e.g. Baiul).
Its strange, somewhere over the summer of 1992, M.M. lost his triple axel and never really got it back with any consistency. I think that it really damaged his chances to win championships after that. Shame.
I remember sitting in my suite at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Anaheim, California when I watched Mark skate in worlds. I was on business traveling the world. Mark was and to me even this day the best male figure skater. He combined the class elegance and strong jumps taken off from the position they're are suppose to be! I actually called Mark and got a pattern of his costume from his designer.
Mark you are 6 years younger than me! You are the best!
i HATE the because of CoP we will never see a beautifully choreographed middle section like Mark's, the highlight of which was an incredible outside spiral, because it would be worth ZERO points. Meh.
I have never heard of Mark Mitchell before. He seems be a good skater after seeing this video. Very, very good artistic skater. Unfortunately I wasn't really that big into figure skating at that time. I first starting skating when Michelle Kwan made a name for herself and in a big way.
If you could ever get a view of his performance in the freeskate at the worlds from 1992 you will see the best skate of his life and of that championships.
mark and peter are the BEST coaches ever!!! they push you to your best. mark still has elegance and great posture wens hes coaching
