  • Its not ska nor is it punk...it's motherfucking SKUNK.

  • Vintage opivy....nothing better.

  • i hate being part of the new generation... i missed all of the epic bands like opivy that you cant see anymore!

  • @masterbateing247

In these days it was the same I can tell you. People were sick and tired of this generic 80ies "everything is nice and clean"- style. It was a time with big distrust in the general accepted ideologies of that time. It was all about individualism. Now 30 years later, the world has changed alot. But for sure every generation will have their hero's, their anti-hero's, their epic bands. For me being punk is in the heart, and almost at 40 I'm still 100% punk. Peace.

  • @JordiSmulders the hair line recides, the clothes start feelin a bit silly, but the ideas continue to grow man,

  • This shit is the shit.

  • one thing i can depend on

  • My girlfriend just broke up with me, but Sound System is gonna bring me back up!

  • This guys voice is more suited to ska. I think he sounded better in Op Ivy than now in Rancid

  • TURN IT UP LOUDER AND LET'S GO SKANKING! =.= *coughs* if only I knew how and if only my friends knew that skanking doesn't mean you're a sleazy skank

  • Down syndrome gonna bring me back up yeah!

  • anyone else hear the little laugh at the end?

  • I'm 30 now and have been listening to this op album for 15 years now and it never gets old!

  • YAY I AM FROM BERKELY, and I <3 this more than Green day for sure!

  • Badass Band!! Why do us punks gotta be in "hiding" when all were doing is expressing what we believe!?

  • Static pulse inside of music bringing us escape!!!!

Its always temporary, changing nothing in its wake!!!

Just a second where we're leaving all this shit behind

Just a second but its leaving just this much in mind:

To resist despair, that second makes you see

To resist despair, because you can't change everything

To resist despair, in this world is

    What it is

    What it is

What it is to be free

  • i like this band but rancid is gay as fuck

  • @BackInOrbit Thought I was the only one.

  • @BackInOrbit the two shouldn't be compared. sure half the members were in both bands but the music is so much different. and fuck you for using the word gay like that. get off that shit.

  • @ahhhitsrob Ditto that.

  • this music is awesome but everyone is playing it out its like being punk is the kool thing to do even preety boys are wearing op ivy and other band patches and all of them only know like 1 song all the REAL punks around here have decided to sop wearing docs our jackets vest our tuks everyhink till this FAZE is over

  • @TheMegasuperstoned

I still wear some of my shit. The west coast is still a pretty easy place to spot who is a punk and who is not. And if you live in Portland no one but the punks wear patches, cause the hipsters look down on us haha.

  • @Chembletek A Portland punk? Finally! I just moved to Salem in August from Reno and been totally out of touch with the local music scene. I heard Portland has a fairly big punk following -- where's the best venues?

  • @ExcellentErnest

autonomy hive. I am normally at the free shows so I go wherever the show goes. mostly its house shows but they are fun as hell.

  • @Chembletek well i live in calli were everything gets played out i just thought punk wouldnt fall into that but i gues kids find it kool even the fuckn shuflers and all the fag ass sceens are getting into punk its fuckn anoying!!

  • @TheMegasuperstoned

The new shufflers are fucking stupid, it was party rock anthem that made that shit mainstream. I shuffle, love hardstyle, but god damnit I can't ever enjoy myself at a rave here anymore because its all dubstep, and the dj's have no fucking skill and they are plain.

  • ya those r NOT djs my friend DJ'S put there hand on a thing called a VINYL and move it back & forth NOT standing behind a fucking ELECTRONIC "turntable" & fistpumping & to the beat UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE

  • so true!

  • i dont know why, but this song gets me so hyped i just wanna go crazy

  • i heart this<3

  • fawk yeah

  • 11 people are deaf !

  • awwwwwwwwwwwwww, brings back great times.

  • its sad that 80% people only know about operation ivy because of green day.....

  • @MrDoomsday666 how'd they do that????

  • @KomicForty because fucking green day covered their songs.......

  • @MrDoomsday666 oh really?

  • @MrDoomsday666 At least its not because shitty bands like Hollywood undead covered them, Green Day kick ass

  • @MrDoomsday666 No, I think you're definitely wrong. I think 99% of op ivy fans loved the band because of the music and energy. Greenday might have introduced op ivy to a few thousand 14 year olds, but thats it. The main fanbase is diehard and probably never listened to greenday anyway.

  • @MrDoomsday666 No I think most people only know about OpIVY from back In the day when they listened to them, or LIKE ME, from when they we're introduced to Op Ivy from first generation Op Ivy listeners, but I remember Seeing Hectic on top of my uncle's stack of Vinyls, I thought the picture looked SOOO cool, but the point is I knew about green day at the time, but they didnt have anything to do with eachother in my mind back then

  • pick it up pick it up pick it up

  • the original and still the best

  • Stay true to yourself and stand up for what u believe in and u will be fine...oh yeah and enjoy some of the best music in existence that most people will never even pay fucking attention to!!!

  • My sound system is bringing me up...this song speaks the truth!

  • I feel like there are no more punks left in the world. Where the fuck is everyone?!

  • @ruflus61 Punks have become harder to spot because dressing 'punk' has become way mainstream- you can almost find combat boots everywhere... so you gotta just be an ordinary kid but silently protest the government and listen to this amazing stuff. We're in hiding!

  • @x78xnx But that's my problem! It's always "silently protest". That's why it's so difficult to notice anyone.. Silently protesting has become almost useless. When you're left with no other options, you have to take action! But it seems that nobody notices that. I do what I can... But I'm only in highschool. America sucks -_-

  • @ruflus61 to find punk friends I think you just have to get lucky lol

  • @TheDefiantSquirrel Or just go to a show..

  • @x78xnx Lol... The only "Punk" thing about the way I look is that I stencil out (Or screen) band patches, and sew em onto hoodies and jeans, or shorts or whatever. And I wear punk band shirts. Half of them are stenciled. So that's it... otherwise, I just wear whatever shoes I could find, and whatever pants I could find.. I like the "Skinnier" fitting pants (I dont like them skintight. thats just ridiculous), so if I have baggy pants, I cut and sew them into skinnies. I just DIY alot of shit.

  • @MillionsOfDeadCops5 DIY ETHIC :P!!!!!!!!!

  • @x78xnx haha im not hiding i got a patched out army jacket and a 6 1/2" tall pink mohawk with doc martens

  • @x78xnx The kids who are wearing combat boots at my school all listen to shit bands like All Time Low or Brokencyde. They look at me and call me a "prep" all I do is dress however the fuck I want. Sweatpants and shirt with sneakers. Little do these shits know I listen to a hell a lot more punk music than they will ever listen to in a lifetime.

  • @xXrootsrockreggaeXx ya well all time low is from my town and play concerts at our schools and there mandatory

  • @xXrootsrockreggaeXx WORD! People are always like "OH you listen to punk? You dont LOOK punk." I'm like, bitch, you look like hot topic had a baby with Avril Lavigne."

  • @x78xnx My friend the other day said she listens to punk music while studying, you know like Avril Lavigne... I cringed and winced at the same time. Siiigh.

  • @x78xnx lol same here

  • @x78xnx ....This is ska... You don't know what punk is either -_-

  • @alexgeyerx yo calm your tits. i know this is ska. it's also known as ska-punk. i'm very well aware of what punk is too.

  • @alexgeyerx i wouldnt rly call it ska. like theres a bit of ska in there for sure but i wouldnt say its all the way ska

  • @TheMuShRoOmMaN999 i see where your misunderstanding comes from (i used to think this wasn't ska because it has no brass or saxes). but i realized that you do not not need those things to fuse jazz and punk.

  • @TheMuShRoOmMaN999 That's why it's called Ska Punk...

  • @alexgeyerx who cares what it is, just listen and enjoy

  • @x78xnx LOL! I always think people think I'm weird because of what I listen to...when in reality I'm a farmgirl! yes, I live on a farm out in the country and (obviously) farm and raise livestock! :) just goes to show that stereotypes and labels are fucking stupid

  • @x78xnx hot topic used to be great, then they went mainstream, like lil wayne and shit like that, i asked them if they had an op ivy shirt, they said they havent had one in 4 years

  • @greendaykicksass1101 This coming from 'greendaykickass'. The point is punk isn't a fashion.

  • @mdbowlin121367 Feed the troll, why don'tcha. Just listen to the song, man. Untiy, brother; even with idiots.

  • @mdbowlin121367 for the record, Green Day's lead singer/guitarist and Op Ivy's lead singer are cousins... Tim Armstrong and Billie Joe Armstrong... Green Day covered Op Ivy's song Knowledge on their first album... it was COMPLETELY different, but it still sounded ok.

so hating on Green Day isnt something that Op Ivy would let you do. just sayin.

  • @x78xnx stop describing me lol

  • @x78xnx hey man, punks not mainstream, thats what emos for.

  • Comment removed

  • @x78xnx

must be different where you live. combat boots are the tell tale signs of punker around here.

  • @MurcielagoAI at my school im the only kid who wears doc martens of course mine are used but it dont matter but ya hardly any punks or ska fans in my school all preps jocks goths or emos

  • @thepunk247 just because you wear dock martins doesnt mean your a punk

  • @itsmesoyeah i didn't say that

  • @thepunk247 oh alright well just so everyone knows

  • @x78xnx damn right bro!!!fight all goverments!!!(A)

  • @x78xnx Yeah! Oi!

  • @x78xnx Amen to that.

Having a mohawk doesn't mean you are punk, the mind is what cares.

  • @ruflus61 couldn't agree more. we were born too late I guess

  • @ActionRoad Damn right. Feels bad man.

  • @ruflus61 don't say that, it's here on youtube and on cd for you to listen to it along with the rest, now just go out and create the scene you wanna see!

    ;)

  • Guess what! I bought energy! Only to find that it plays at 78rpm, and my turntable only plays 33 and 45! FUCK! :D

  • "Sound system gonna bring me back up, one thing that I can depend on!"

  • static pulse inside of music bringing us escape, its always temporary, changing nothing in its wake. Just a second where we leave all this shit behind, just a second but it leaves this much in mind. to resist despair, what it is to be free...

  • This song is so true, one thing I can depend on, music. All this talk about what is punk and what isn't doesn't really matter. Sure, when I was younger categorising punk was the done thing, this was Oi, this was Crusty that was not punk etc... Some people said the Exploited were not punk, Crass and Minor Threat were hippies, the Pistols were just pop etc... IMHO if it has energy and says something funny or relevant it may well be Punk.

  • @boganlover People have their own definitions of punk.... I just think that punk is our big family of those who really feel misplaced in society. I think that people who are like the punks are, have ALWAYS existed. But in the 80's, they found a new way to express themselves. Music. To say what they think, feel, and do. Wether it be politics, social life, or a mixture of both as many bands do, music is key. Which is why we ALL need to get into gear and start some more fucking bands..

  • @100xines True that shit man.

  • Billie Joe of Green Day played in Rancid for a show when they first started up.

Tim Armstrong asked Billie if he wanted to do more with them, and he declined saying he wanted to stay with Green Day.

They came from the exact same place, if anyone has even taken the time to research any of it. What they became is ultimately what they wanted to do. Tim wanted to stay with the more raw, hardcore punk. Green Day, from the beginning, adapted their sound from the more poppy British punk bands.

  • im here for the bass :P

  • Green Day isn't punk. What Green Day have you been listening to? Maybe their early stuff was. Green Day = puke.

  • @CindySellati I read your comment and was outraged... then i realized I mixed up punk and puke, reread it and completely agreed

  • Alanis Morreset is more "punk" than greenday...

  • Fuckheads who think their opinions actually hold merit on the internet make me laugh and cry at the same time.

  • @KeyboardMurder are you sure they're related? there's alot of armstrongs out there.

  • @TheJayman213 check wikipedia. they are related.

  • @ipwnrubberduckiesftw i did. billie wasn't mentioned on tim's site and tim was only mentioned on billie's site once: when he asked billie to join rancid.

  • @TheJayman213 weird. did you try the operation ivy page?

  • @ipwnrubberduckiesftw wtf!? i went to operationivycom but it says it's being rebuilt. and even weirder: it says it would be relaunched in JULY '11 :S

  • green day is not punk

  • @numa3142 neither is op ivy...

  • @TheJayman213 yeah they are...therea combo of ska-hardcore punk

  • @CTE0895 damn, i wanted the guy i was talking to to reply. cus if he doesn't think green day is punk then he must be using the more specific definition as traditional punk like the ramones. in that case green day isn't punk and op ivy isn't either.

if you use the broader definition as in the entire punk family both bands are punk. in fact green day would be more punk cus they are a fusion of pop with pure punk while op ivy is a fusion of ska with HARDCORE punk. so only like 1/4 traditional punk.

  • @TheJayman213 i myself consider Pop Punk the least punky of all the punk genres because it's normally the groups that sold out and lost their punk roots i.e Green Day, Blink 182, The Offspring, and the modernized version of "punk" which is complete and utter mainstream half emo garbage is also pop punk. HARDCORE punk is the most punk f the genres in my eyes, that was the rebellion punk movement in the 80'd punk that had The Dead Kennedys Minor Threat The Adicts The Melvins The Germs The Ameoba's

  • @CTE0895 interesting. our opinions must be different because of our different definitions for punk, yours being about rebellion and mine being about music. so in my opinion hardcore punk can't be more punk than essential punk.

in terms of rebellion, yes. green day is less punk than op ivy.

  • @CTE0895 I dunno, there's a lot of really really shitty ska punk that really has nothing to do with punk.

It's hard to call The Melvins Punk too, they're one of my favorite bands but Sludge Rock fits them better, or even dare I say, Grunge.

  • @donwantstobesedated whats wrong with grunge?

  • @CTE0895 nothing, I love grunge, it's just most "punks" hate it cause it's "too mainstream" or whatever

  • @donwantstobesedated Its not that its too mainstream, its just most grunge bands were full of arrogant tossers ...

  • @Laidleypunk12 Tossers? Maybe. Arrogant? Nah, not really.

    and punk wasn't?
