I remember feeling so smug w/ my game gear. It fit your hands better, was more comfortable to use, had a bigger screen and was IN COLOR! Kids, this was back when the only other option was a Game Boy... green screen block shaped beige thing. (Game Gear was black!)

But yeah, it sucked up the batteries (4 AA's if I recall)...the AC adapter was your friend!

Most of the games DID suck, you're right... Aladdin was cool, though ^_^

In the Master System version of this game you cannot reach the first boss while he's flying around left-right, you need wait until he's flying down. Play the Master System version!

A lot of them are hard to listen to because they had a ridiculous accent or something or they don't talk well and sound all broken up but it's nice when you watch one where the commentary flows and they have a good voice like this guy and Toegoff

The thing I hate the most about the Game Gear/Master System versions of the games is that, ok, if you got hit in the Genesis versions the ring counter would go to zero and you would drop the amount of rings you had unless it was over 32 at which point you would only drop 32. If you got hit in the Game Gear/Master System versions, the counter would similarly go to zero, but even if you had like sixty rings, you would only drop like three and that FUCKING PISSED ME OFF!!!!!!

That jumping Sonic sprite from the beginning when you start up the game is a homage to a segment of a deformed claymation Sonic doing the same thing in some of the Japanese commercials for some Sonic games. Sonic 1 and Sonic CD were some commercials that had this (Sonic 1 has the entire thing in full).

For anyone who's not seen or played the Master System counterpart, here's some differences:

1. No sign posts near spike pits etc (Green Hill zone)

2. Some item locations changed

3. It takes LUCK to reach Robotnik as he flies overhead (Green Hill zone 3)

4. Different special stage layouts

5. Bridge zone boss setting (platforms instead of bridges)

6. Slip off a ledge or platform in Jungle act 2 and you WILL die!

7. Sky Base zone boss (Uses an electric wave as opposed to flame jets)

The Master System Version was harder because there was water under you and you had 2 platforms to stand on. Not much harder though.

If this was not already mentioned, this was the first Game Gear title, and probably the 06th title for the Master System.

Nevertheless though, the memory in Sonic Game Gear was more than Sonic Master System;

However, the titles do have different layouts, Special Stages, and animations for Sonic and Robotnik. :)

the reason why the eggman boss in the first stage is incredibly easy is because of some lazy porting you see the master system version of this came first and that boss was a bit different eggman would fly around backand forth to high too hit and then he'd chrage you. but the game gear has a much smaller screen so rather then fixing this by having sonic be at the bottom of the screen they just moved eggman down so you can destroy him before he can even do anything

I'm not very familiar with the GG version but I've played the MS version constantly throughout the years, there is more than just Eggman and the exclamation mark sign, there is a Sonic sign possible that gives you an extra life. I'm not even sure how to trigger it but it's definitely happened a few times.
