  • Very very well played I like to hear a tune played fast it gives it life

  • very well played !

  • Dude...fuck that other guy...this sounds gorgeous fast! Sounds like a highland jig of some kind! Keep crankin it!

  • why is it that irish music is played with tenor banjos? why not use a 5 string? sorry for the stupid question... just wondering

  • @ghsr82 Tenor banjo tuning, GDAE, gives you more than two octaves across the 4 open strings, allowing both low and high parts of a tune to be played within 7 frets. 5 String banjo only gives 1 octave across the 4 open strings, so to find the notes for the higher part of a tune you end up way up the neck. I know some people play Irish Traditional music on 5 string, but really it's better for accompanying songs. Luke Kelly, Tommy Makem, Pete Seeger - all singers and 5 string players.

  • thats some great banjo playing, awesome.

  • Great song. Nice technique. How long have you been playing?

  • Very good. Thank you

  • well thats to the poor upload sync i got no chance of even attempting to copy this :P

just trying to figure out the tune on my own sort of, could you help me out with some tabs mate?

    would be great :D

  • What Tuning do you use?

  • That's a Goldtone IT-250F, isn't it? Nice pluckin'!

  • What kind of banjo is this? (make/model)

  • @13jparker It's a Korean-made Iida 240-T.

  • that is epic i play tenor banjo and i so want to play that whre can you get the music

  • I really like your style , but this is way too fast. It loses it hornpipe-bounce, and it doesn't really suit the tune. Faster doesn't necessarily mean better, although fast will make you average casual listener raise his/her eyebrows.

  • @Domitianvs This recording is more than two years old at this point. You should take that into account before casting aspersions. I'm a young player, and like most young players, there's a lot of room to grow. I've changed significantly in how I play, both this tune and the instrument in general, in that period of time. I only keep this up because most people seem to like it. If you don't, don't watch it.

  • That's very good, and it was just a helpful suggestion, not meant to be offensive, but indeed to help you grow. I'm a young musician myself, and I've learned some variations of the tune from your playing.

  • @Domitianvs I understand that, and I didn't mean to snap at you. I appreciate the helpful advice. I wish I'd received it back when I recorded these videos initially. Probably the most difficult thing to remember when you start acquiring any degrees of skill in Irish music is that progression doesn't have to mean "faster, faster, faster." It can mean slower and with more feeling or with new ornamentation. I'm considering revisiting this tune again some time soon.

  • GOOD JOB ANYWAY

  • @tantoonie0 wat da notes of this song please..great tune would like the notes 2 i practise it

  • @Domitianvs a listener may here both fast and slow versions and decide they prefer it faster....

  • @seamyb88 What I said had nothing to do with preference, what I said, simplified for your sake, is that it is impossible to actually dance a hornpipe to this. ITM is, after all, irish traditional music for dancing traditional irish dances to. That's all I said. Please read a comment thouroughly before dismissing it, thank you.

  • I had not seen this one before -- done in your usual fine style! Very nice indeed!!!

    5*!!

  • That looks a lot like a Gibson fingerboard and pot what are you playing on?

  • This is the same old Iida (Korean-made) 240-T I've had since I started making these videos. The open-backed banjo is a 1930s Bacon & Day Senorita.

  • great job!!!!

  • Great picking Buddy... as good a rendition as I've heard anywhere .... roll in into a tune called THE HARVEST HOME, they run real well together. Great Stuff., well done !

  • oh my, your good at banjo!

  • great stuff

  • Great tone on your banjo. What brand is it?

I have a Hondo Tenor Banjo. Great instrument!

  • This is a Korean Iida 240-T.

  • I got a lida too^__^

u know if one is supposed to play an octave lower when its tuned one octave lower from mandolin?

  • super piece of strumming

  • Great stuff , I may be wrong but is this tune known as the belford hornpipe ?

  • errrr no I think ots just known as the Boys of Bluehill, ive never seen it called that anywhere else?
