  • i dont like opera but this is from my swedish youth

  • Papagena is a babe!

  • Elisabeth Erikson är mycket vacker här!

Såg precis filmen och den är helt underbart vacker!

  • Trevlig video! Sjysst med svenska faktiskt, verkligen!

  • he is cursing himself for talking (there was a trial previously where the mission was to not talk). And then he is going to hang himself, and says that if someone out there wants him he wont hang himself. He then counts to three, twice and the rest is pretty obvious.

  • so lovely :) a wonderful rendition, probably the best one

  • They are taking there cloths of! What an erotic opera! Lol

  • Papageno and Papagena are "wild" they follow no rules but the power off their hearts!

  • Nice... but nobody does Papagena as well as Bartoli IMHO.

  • hardly...

  • most awkward costume change ever!!!

    I lol'd.

  • etrema känslor utspelar sig i denna opera!

  • WoW!!! Its very very very cool version!!!

  • This is so charming! I love it!

  • I love this song!

  • I agree. I only wish they had used the original libretto.

  • This is most likely as close to Mozart as you can come. That, combined with Bergmans greatness and the old Drottningholm opera with it's amazing set is pure heaven. I first watched this when I was five years old and I still get the same feeling as I did then.

  • This is delightful! The Papageno they chose is marvellous - many Papagenos take themselves so seriously. This Hagagard fellow is perfect for the role. He is so Mozart!

  • : )

  • I love this version, it's realy well presented, love it!!!!!!

  • cóż to za język?

  • excuse me?

  • oczywiście szwedzki

  • ah, come on, don't be like that! tell me! :)

  • It's about language in video ;)

  • ah, ok, cheers! ;)

  • Well, the director is Ingmar Bergman ..

  • "shanghaibenny2: Stripping to Mozart. What would he say? Love the whole opera. It is a thoroughly enchanting experience. "

It is so, it is so.

  • This is unbearably cute!

  • This is bird music

  • swedish opera, never even knew such a thing existed... great!

  • its not swedish, is german as Mozart was

  • Mozart was Austrian;

and yes, the original language in this opera is German, but here there are singing Swedish

  • i thought it was Norwegian...

  • Stripping to Mozart. What would he say? Love the whole opera. It is a thoroughly enchanting experience.

  • I like the blocking, Hilarious!

  • I love this so much. Best Papageno ever. Go Mozart!

  • the three boys are great in this movie ... wonderful voices

  • i think this is my favorite performance of this song. i really like the ending when they are removing eachother's winter clothes. there is so much HEART in this! adorable!

  • very funny

  • I actually think the Bergmans papageno is the best one ever... Most other characters I've seen better in other editions - but the Bergman Papagena stands amongst the best

  • Es esta una de MEJORES versiones de la Opera, sobre todo de Papageno y Papagena...., saludos desde el Peru.

  • aw, I <3 you, Papageno!

  • A truly remarkable performance, he really put his heart into it. He shows us what happens when Opera becomes more than just the voice. When Opera develops a bonding relationship with performance and acting becomes a vital part of it, the character flourishes!

    A sensational piece.

  • Are they singing in German?

  • no that's swedish, otherwise i could understand more than "Papageno" or "Papagena"^^

  • No, its Swedish. :-)

  • this is absolutely adorableee

  • had she been born later, she would have been a much larger sex-symbol than she was (I have no Idea if she was or not). But she nails some looks that a few are know for today, and she does them better. Beautiful-determined like only Kiera Knightly can muster today among others. And with a voice like few others. She did become Royal-court singer in some manner (have no Idea how to translate her title). And she is from the town I grew up.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Adorable omfg <33

  • this is the BEST VERSION!!

  • This Papageno is too adorable! He kinda looks like Sam Gamgee!

  • Agree!!!

  • I really like this Swedish version.

The voice of Both singer are above average among the other singers of this aria. In my opinion, the Swedish language is not so far from German so the feeling of the song is remain similar unlike the English version where you can feel that the feeling of the song is so distorted.

  • that woman's voice is sooo beautiful~~~

  • I much prefer this to the English versions I've heard.

  • 生命若不是活在現在,那是何時?

  • once again in english please

  • "Papagena / Papageno!" is probably one of my favorite duets. Along with the Roth/Le Roi and Terfel/Bartoli performances this has got to be one of my favorites. It's just so sweet.

  • Upon listening to the many of Mozart's works, it becomes blatantly obvious why he is called a genius.

  • 1. This time (end of the XVIII century) Signore G. Balsamo advanturer alias Count Calgiostro founded the Egyptian Freemason movement.Egyptian background origins from effect of Calgiostro. Schikadenz and Mozart both were member of the freemasonary. This is a tale and a fabula against the revenge and beside the affection and the love of the human mankind.

    2. Somebody Who is called Fox or Fuchs, he or she must wear fur of fox on summertime and wintertime??!!!

  • okay, what about your second statement, didn't get that AT ALL

  • Somebody wrote here,it was strange Papageno without bird cloth.

Other wrote here, Papageno word meaning in old French was parrot.

I think Bergman worked well in this movie, his interpretation is excellent (before the duet is witer and after is spring) It does not matter Papageno without bird cloth.

  • Veni, vidi, vici. Great!

  • Many versions, including the one staged in Mozart's lifetime, have Papageno in a bird suit.

  • that is true...

in one of my other videos Papageno does wear a bird suit (against popular belief it was not a flamingo, but more of a parrot-like costume^^)

  • Å! Barndomsminnen! Still love it Oh so much!

  • Muy lindo ! ; gracias ,desde argentina ! :)

  • cool

  • I do like this duet, however it diverges somewhat from the original. It's supposed to be set in Egypt and not in a cold winter scene. And why isn't Papageno a parrot? I respect Bergman, but this interpretation is just so far off. It sort of reminds me of "Barnen på Frostmofjället".

  • Papageno isn't a bird, he's a man who catches birds.

  • yeah, that kinda sounds crazy... "why isn't Papageno a parrot?"

"Vogelfänger" is a bird catcher, not some kind of weird bird species...

as for egypt; it's hardly ever set in egypt, but mostly in a fairy tale land...

  • In old French papageno means parrot

  • and it is still just his name... if your name is Storm or Flower it doesn't really mean that you're that, does it?

  • "Die Zauberflöte (13) Papageno & Papagena" in that version, it is set in Egypt.

  • did i not write "hardly ever"? that doesn't mean "never".

but as you point it out, that is not so good a production of "Die Zauberflöte", in my own humble opinion...

  • Oh yeah girl, it sure is humble...

  • it sure is...

  • If I remember right, Tamino is an Egyptian prince. The opera has a lot of egyptian elements in it but I don't believe it has to be set in Egypt itself. But the other responders are right, Papageno is a bird catcher, not necessarily a bird himself.

  • Only Opera is 100% good fom the begining to ending, this is Die Zauberflute. There is one a big problem, the pa-pa-pa is not 100%, but 200%!!!

  • i think that Le nozze di Figaro is perfect as well, and though i love the music in Die Zauberflöte immensely, i don't really like its libretto.

  • Can you imagine what would have taken place musically had Mozart lived as long as Haydn did?

  • 4.55 is the best melody ever made.

  • Agreed!

  • The smile at 5:10 when he hears Papagena... haha that whole scene is so cute!

  • 0:00-3:30; he seems awfully happy for a dude about to hang himself.

  • whatever gave you that impression?

  • Imagine this number in a hentai version of The Magic Flute!

    THAT WOULD BE SCARY!!!

    Hentai:The Quickest Path To Blindness

  • you're a sick dude PaulieRomanov

  • i think we all know what they did next =)

  • Ha! I've been looking for this Magic Flute film for a long time. Must have seen it years ago and only today remembered the film maker...watched so much Bergman in my youth I'd forgotten that he'd explored Opera!! This scene is so stamped with Bergman yet it's so makes Mozart's Opera even more luminescent...

  • WONDERFUL

    EXCELENT

    BEAUTIFUL,

  • This Opera movie is my favourit, I watched in the Hungarian TV more 20 years ago.

    (Translation my Hungarian sentences are:

If Mozart did not live ever I woud not listened to any Opera from nobody (Wagner, Verdi,Puccini, Bizet) at all!!! Thank you Wolfgang for you were on the Earth!)

And thank you for this part!

  • Is it possible for you to post Papageno's solo while in the tomb (the silence trial)?

  • yes, because i did that already^^

  • Yes, I found it thanks =)

  • Ha Mozart nem élt volna én egyetlen Operát sem hallgattam volna senkitől sem!!! Köszönöm Wolfgang!

  • ok what?

  • Istenem ez annyira gyönyörű!

  • This opera-film is just fantastic! I love it!

I have seen it twice | three times? -- on the silver screen!! :-)

  • I saw Haken Hagegard playing Don Giovanni character and he was just as astonishing as he is in this one. He seemed to be enjoying himself a lot! Love you Haken!!!

  • Really good, love the filming, you can tell the crew made a huge effort to make this film, really great :-D

  • 04:35, how do they make the grand goes green? :O I don't get it.

Anyway, this is so damn cute.

  • Another example why Mozart was the greatest composer known to Haydn- Haydn's words!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm wondering if Mozart was picturing himself as that character anybody know??

  • No, actually, the part was written especially for Emanuel Schikaneder, who wrote the libretto.

  • Oh goodness! This is so cute!

  • The most beautiful performance,... The voices are incredible,...

  • This part of the opera alwasy makes me cry and smile. It is too beautiful. Mozart forever!!!

  • great emotion and actors and their singing

    thanks

  • Easily my favorite version of this song. =) I love the acting! I wish I could say more, but I just know of Mozart and not this opera specifically.

  • it's Ingmar Bergman's film adaptation. The libretto was changed to swedish, but aside from that it is the finest version of the entire opera I have ever seen, at least on film.

  • Best performance I've heard!

  • This version is great! my favourite duet- in Swedish?! But it sounds perfect. The tempo, everything. As lighthearted as it should be.

  • Is that Håkan Hagegård?

  • yes

  • Ha, wow I had a voice lesson with that guy last year. He was the visiting artist in my department. An absolutely wonderful man.

  • are you an opera singer?

  • Otto Klemperer would kill all of you with an ice pick, if he heard this. Christ this just isn't right. - the fast part in the beginning. sweet voice, dont think its being ulitized the way it was meant to be

  • you need to be a bit more specific, don't you? i can't make out any sense in your comment...

  • Man that Papagena is a very attractive women.

  • well, i 'm simply asking whether there's any native swedish speaker that could help us with the lyrics herein. i understand part of them, but my swedish is rather poor...

however, i find this interpretation excellent.

    puss puss

  • The lyrics are pretty close to Schikaneder's... well translated to Swedish of course. I'm sure you can find the German libretto on the internet. Is it anything in particular you would like to have help with though?

  • basically, i just need to know the exact words so that i can sing it myself :D

however, i get its main point

talk to me on mess, if u want, i use the same id

  • do you mean in swedish or german?

  • swedish :)

  • jag kan prata lite svenska, men vet inte vad de säger där. kanske lite hjälp från en svensk kompis ? tack så mycket

  • excuse me?

  • that was cute and awesome, but seeing as i do not speak german, i am so damn confused, especially when they started to rip eachothers clothes off, in anyone wants to clarify for me please do.

  • i speak german but i don't know what they are saying because they sing swedish.

on the other hand, i imagine they, too, sing about having a lot of children.

as for the clothes: it's winter and it turns into spring, so the winter clothes are too warm for them... or they just can't keep their hands of each other ;)

  • or maybe it's to see what's underneath. Papagena has been masked when they first met each other and they have to get to know each other... i mean this simbolically btw :)

  • really i did not know it was swedish, awesome thank you for clarifying it for me, and thanks for the uploads! :D

  • This is adorable! I like the segment where they do the cheesy toothpaste-commercial zoom on each of them, haha. Pa...Pa....Pa!

  • at the very end of the movie they zoom out from tamino and tamina and show papageno and papagena surounded by children in green outfits its a beatiful movie sfse (sorry for spelling errors)

  • that is true^^ i can remember the ending very well... since i was little

    i always enjoyed the ending

  • Aw so cute :D

German translates well to Swedish I notice...

can't say that about my langauge which is Finnish, ahaha!

  • OMG he forgot to say "tre!" (drei)

  • :) well, i think he did that on purpose. so as to say, it's not even worth saying; nobody cares anyway.

  • Just amazing!!!

  • RIP Ingmar Bergman

  • it's really sad he died. i only just found out :(

  • i havent the slightist clue y they r strippin

  • because it was winter before and upon their meeting it turns into spring. wearing winter clothes it is too warm for them, thus they take them off.

  • Sure, that's it. Nevermind they are singing about having lots and lots of babies.

  • yes, because it would be so much better if he started shagging her that moment, wouldn't it?

i'm sorry but i find ot it hard to imagine anything more charming than what they are doing, so as to show what they are singing about.

or do you have a splendid idea, as you are so smart?

  • Papageno ^^

  • its intressting that why uselly only put subs on foreign movies were other countries dubb the whole thing put in opera we translet were other countries have the original language intressting point isnt it by the way sfse (sorry for spelling errors)

  • what i really like about him is that unlike other opera singers he not only sing great but he acts to. som opera singers just go out on stage and sing but he acts to thats wy i love Håkan Hagegård

  • No no no, I don´t think he sounds awfull!!! He´s really good actually. What I meant was that he sound very funny when he sing the letter L, but it´s just a nice touch to a classic piece which I love.

  • I just really adore this film.

I've known it ever since I was little and Håkan Hagegård is like the first baritone I've known. It didn't even matter that I couldn't understand anything, because we used to watch it with subtitles in German and I couldn't read then.

  • Sorry scordeteyla we were just disussing the origin of the male singer Håkan Hagegård and muminmojje thinks it sound awfull and i think he is one of the best opera baryton singers ever

  • well, as far as i can tell, he sings very well... but i'm not much of an expert. :)

  • lol mumin men jag tycker han är för gävla bra

  • erm... if it's not too much of an inconvenience: could you try writing in english?

  • hehe, jodå, men det låter så Gävligt (hehe)...

  • muminmojje du är medveten om att han är från värmland

  • Sorry. He has a very special accent when he sings the letter L. Usually it's a big no-no to sing like this in classical music so that's why I think it's so funny.

  • hahaha, vilken gävlemål!!! Kör hårt Håkan : )

  • pardon me?

  • They're saying the same thing that they would say in German. Stuff about making babies. And I agree with fairyboy, Haken Hagegard was REAL cute :)

  • It´s very good....but I think I like German even better. I used to wath this when I was 7 yeras old.

  • Thanks so much for posting this! I LOVE it. Swedish sounds so cute! I never like Die Zauberflote in another language than German, but I absolutely love this!

  • que bello ese hombre!

  • HAHA! Gud så roligt på svenska! Jättekul att få se den! Jag älskar den här duetten :)

  • Do you have anything with Erland Hagegård? He used to sing opera and is Håkans cousin.

If you have anything with him too it would be really nice if you could upload that as well.

  • No sorry, dear. If I had, I certainly would.

  • what are they saying?

i mean i know this duet in german of course, but i can imagine they are saying something different in swedish

  • Yes, they are not singing 100% according to any English translation like the one you provided in the video descrition. This is more like "folkish" opera, but it's still a fantastic interpretation. Thanks for uploading.

  • well, you're welcome :)

the english translation is of course the translation of the german original...

  • *papageno :P

  • Now that i understand what they are singing about I can finally fully enjoy this act. I can see myself in "papagena", because I have been through the exact same thing. Thank you sooo very much for uploading this!

  • Don't you ever take this clip away from youtube. :)

  • I'm not planning on doing that ;)

  • I said I think it's very well done. This came as a surprise to me, I didn't even know there was a Swedish "the magic flute". :)

  • Fan vad grymt! Riktigt välgjort.

  • pardon? i don't understand swedish

  • usually I prefer the magic flute in its original language...but swedish sounds cool :)

Please add more of this production!
