  • This is my kind of music!

  • The coolest fucking song on planet fucking earth!

  • It was very interesting to see the band practice for this video back in the day. The original stage presentation was very different. I miss the insanity that was the life this band lived. To much talent in one place. The tightest band I've ever known.

    Rick Anderson rules!

  • This song is very similar to a Van Halen song name Little Guitars...kind of strange ..but you can check it out!!!

  • still a damn great video....mtv used to play this one to death back in 1981'82, and as a 9-10 year old black kid back then, this was the shit!! i bought the album back in 4th grade and saw a tubes concert on mtv which was crazy but cool......ahh, too many old school memories!!!

  • Well, this really makes one homesick for the 80's....

  • Steve Lukather. Amem

  • Pat Meehan can go fuck himself the way he's fucking everyone else.

  • @cjpmugsr999 who?? whats that got to do with the vid??

  • @cjpmugsr999

who?? and whats got to do with the vid??

  • @4watchintube - Steve Lukather was a guitarist for Toto and apparently did the guitar solo work for the album this came from, including this song. he did a lot of session work for other bands.

  • @KillerKad ok - i can buy that but what does Steve Lukather have to do with Pat Meehan? His comment seemed out of no where, just wondered who that was.

  • I gotta say ... the loudest band I ever saw live, I mean stupid loud, but a good show anyway. Great song, thanks for posting it.

  • these guy look like my high school science teachers.

  • I'll just see you around......

  • This is John Boehner talking to Nancy Pelosi on Nov. 3rd.

  • @kmccorma The party of resentment...

  • @kmccorma death to Smoochie and the party of resentment...

  • I liked Brad Gilbert as the lead singer. But he did the right thing to quit the band and become a Pro Tennis player instead. Great song.

  • Thank you EMI America Records :)

  • This vid makes me miss my old "Members Only" jacket.

    The Tubes were great...

  • Memories. I got to see them in 1981 at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield, Illinois. Awesome!

  • Lindo

Que pena ter passado o tempo!!!....

  • If you're 25 or younger, then you haven't got a clue what a blast the 80's was, especially 1980-1985 -there was alot of GREAT music, trends & it was a good time in the States -sure there was a recession and we came off the heels of the worst presidency in history (AT THAT TIME - OBAMA HAS TAKEN THE TITLE & RAN WITH IT !!), but it was so much more inspiring & postive than today....actually very sad to think how much the Millenium actually SUCKS in comparison

  • @hazor777 I totally agree w/ you there. Jimmy Carter was an absolute disaster! But he was mild compared w/ the WRECKING CREW we have in the White House now!!!! We defeated the Soviet Union in the Cold War and 20 yrs later we BECOME THE SOVIET UNION. What the Hell happened?

  • @31wst : the truth is -and it's been covertly covered up for 50 or so yrs.- was the actual communists have been here & active since the 50's. McCarthyism was totally correct & Hollywood wasn't grilled enough-they turned it around as an abuse of "const. rights"-well it took that long for their plans to work -i.e massive spending, cultural denegration& poor ed.-now they have gained massive control and the veil is lifted, but there is maybe a little bit of time left 2 turn the tide!! VOTE CONST.!!!

  • @31wst : Ill tell you one thing: kids 25 & younger have no fucking idea the danger they are flirting with by aligning with Dems/Socialist/Communists -- you saw the trends to desensitize the youth in the 90's (stupid fucking Che' Guevara shirts,Chinese Commie Caps, the absolute farce of Rage Against The Machine's popularity)-and it seems to have worked, apparently -people laugh when you accuse the White House of commie/socialist activity-they havent a clue about history-fucking IDIOTS

  • @hazor777 Well people WON'T be laughing when they have to go to work everyday and "our" government is appropriating 70 to 80% of their earnings!!!! Maybe by then the masses will finally recognize who the REAL ENEMY is.

  • @31wst : most of the ones out there working have common sense, but won't do anything more than the typical "call yer congress criter" etc.. - there should be an all out tax revolt - but I will bet that there are a sizable % of idiots who will advocate a 65% tax on earnings - watch-they'll be commenting on this post , those COCKSUCKERS!

  • @31wst Get out... Im tellin you now... and take your resentment on down the fuckin road

  • @willrobm Interesting comments! Why should I "get out?" "Get out" or what?? It sounds as if you're very INTOLERANT and UNACCEPTING of opinions other than your own. Am I correct? Think about it...

  • @31wst... 'Or what... ' I don't see any print in my post where it says or what/or else... In fact there is no threat implied at all... u just got stood up to... Perhaps it's u that is INTOLERANT and UNACCEPTING... But if u need some 'clarity' then listen up... I was refering to the conversation between u and Hazor777 which is basically TROLLING... U do know what that is don't u... In the future I'll try to be nicer if u pantywaist's try to be smarter... How's that work 4 ya

  • @willrobm "Get out...Im tellin you now." That's what you wrote, correct? I was just inquiring as to the consequences if I/WE refuse to "get out." Perhaps...send us all somewhere for re-educating?? BTW, Please forgive me for daring to disagree w/ a moral/intellectual superior such as yourself - is this no longer permitted in your America?

  • @31wst... You've already inquired. And you're assuming that I disagree politically. U KNOW WHAT A TROLL IS. Talk around the issue all u want but unless you have something more enlightening to bring to the conversation, like higher art instead of the politics of hate and resentment othersrightly ignore you. But not me... So here's a great line for ya, uttered by a great rocknrolla. "Get off my bloody stage". Maybe u can guess who said that, to whom it was said and what happened next... BOINK

  • @willrobm It sounds like a Keith Richards line. Did he say that to Steven Stills?

  • @31wst ... Pete Townsend to Abby Hoffman @ Woodstock. When Hoffman grabbed the mic as the Who came on, started in about John sinclair getting busted for a joint in Detroit. Townsend flipped his SG over, bounced the backside of it off of Hoffmans head, grabbed him by the collar, and ushering him stage front dropped him a good ten feet into the press pit. As Hoffman left the earth Townsend uttered: "Get off my bloody stage". It happened quickly, like ten seconds...

  • Comment removed

  • @31wst Draw your own conclusions regarding the corelation between R&R and politics and also know that I don't mean any harm by sharing this story with you 31wst. That is not my style but I completely agree with Townsend... Bye the way quite a loud cheer went up when Hoffman took flight...

  • God, I just loved this album!! Played it over and over again and had to lend it to friends to use.......just awesome!

  • UGH fix the volume

  • Funny Fee is the guy who plays a rock singer in the movie Zanadu. He sings in a rock band that merges with a Jazz band to create a different sound. The Movie has ELO, Olivia Newton John, Gene Kelly in it. The guy who was the leader of the gang stalked by the others from the movie Warriors was the artist in the movie.

  • low audio

  • low audio

  • Wow! We get to backup our idols "The Tubes"on halloween night in Chicago!

    This is gonna be fun!

  • Classic... 1981 was three decades ago. Amazing.

  • This song is groovy and happening in a far out way.

  • Lord...I really miss the 80's....Send me back and let me stay

    Anyone wish to join?

  • @40Rtruss Yeah... 1981 sure had some moments for me.

  • @WDockery

That was a fun decade, many great times

  • Our band used to play this song at the end of the show it was wild back in the day girls would lift their skirts and later they would say hello alright in a lot of ways loved the 80's

  • Hard to believe that this video and song are almost 30 years old! To me it still sounds fresh and the video's look is great. Doesn't Fee Waybill looks like the late Phil Hartman?

  • I saw The Tubes on 8/26&27/10. Still great; all four originals - Fee, Roger, Rick, and Prairie. New keyboardist - Dave. Catch them if you can. Their website is out there.

  • re: AlienFan question. Dropped a note in your subscription section that answers your question. Shine on.

  • Just got an email from a fan that said he just saw the tubes in answer to the comment I posted saying they broke up. Yes you did see the tubes3.0. but you have never and will never see the original line up that the old fans saw. Not getting all "Woodstock" on you, and what is left of this great group are truly jazzed for your love, but the point I was making is this. No Bill Spooner, no Mike Cotten, no Vince Welnick (R.I.P. Vince)= no TUBES!

  • @tommyboy6267 What one is Vince Welnick? I only know Fee and Prarie.Completion Backward is a fantastic album,I just don't know who's who

  • Mate, it musta been hot as fark playing in those suits and running around under all those bloody lights. Bloody great song though.

  • Fuck me inversely, that's a nice guitar solo.

  • This whole album is fantastic.

  • one of the best guitar solos form the 80's

  • I cannot believe how laggy this video is. Comcast 6 mb download and it just pauses and pauses....

  • Don't think this band went anywhere.

  • the band was too slick, and the people were twisted, Prairie Prince RULES!!!!!!!!

  • I just saw them last Saturday night at the Barn Theatre in Augusta, Mi. GREAT show and the band came over to the bar and hung out for a long time. Great band, great place, great time.

  • I'll just see you around...............

  • Link9367. Like your feedback. Personally I like the Business Man intro. Fits in with the theme of the cover art. As far as LP vs CD I agree fully. There is something more organic and RAW when heard on LP. Enjoy your find, It just gets better with repeated listenings. Shine on Link. Tommy.

  • Hey..lookingforfun70. Check out the Lemonheads"If I could talk". Great song and another underrated artist.

  • Still have this album on LP. IT is in my will to have it cremated with me. Talk about "A life of smoke" Inside reference if you know what I mean.

  • @tommyboy6267 i've got it too , amazing sound quality but i don't like the man who talks at beginning of the recording just before of talk to ya later song i've got it per 0.50 cents

  • lookingforfun70...................What do you mean by before you depart? This country or this planet? Not being a jerk, just want to get your comment straight. If you mean going home to were you are from (and I hope that is a good home, family and friends) then I am sorry to tell you that the TUBES are no more, Broke up years ago. If you mean before you pass on to the other side, I am truly sorry that you must leave. God bless you, and have a great trip. The TUBES would want it that way.

  • @tommyboy6267 They still tour to this date, and are even better than before.

  • bought the cassette the day it arrived at the University Rec Shop!

    Lets light one up!

  • This has to be one of Steve Lukather's best solos ever! One of my favorite songs out of all of music history.

  • What is wrong with all you assholes. Stop bitching and just listen to the best band I have ever heard! Saw them at the Town Pump in Vancouver and they brought the house down. No back stage pass and I was able to have a drink with Fee, Rodger and Rick............ and they bought! Real Men and real artists. God Love the Tubes.

  • @tommyboy6267 Cool story. Would like to see them before I depart.

  • i cant embed this???

you fags, wake up and smell the 21st century capitol!

  • Sounds like a Journey song. Melodic, though. Not a stretch to imagine Steven Perry singing the lead vocal on this.

  • Impresionante Luke, el mas grande

  • TURN IT UP!

  • There are ten complete idiots on the internet as of this writing

  • what days of my youth does this song take me back to.but I would have never guessed it was the Tubes.

  • This tune just rocks. Plain and simple,

  • One of the best subversive power-pop tunes ever!!!

  • i thought this song is about his girlfriend.

    LOVE IT! <3

  • "The completion backwards principle" was the first rock album I ever owned. Picked it up when I was 14 back in 1981. This song is as fresh now as it was then. I think Icaused my Mom premature deafness blasting the album day and night. "Attack of teh 50 foot woman" is a classic!

  • I totally blew up a 2000 set of speakers to this tune,

  • @Jenne61265 that's amusing

  • I always loved this song...had no idea these guys sang it!

  • There's a hilarious video of the Tubes when they were the special guests of Gill Fisher the Fishin' Musician played by John Candy on SCTV back in 1981. I was growing up in southern Ontario then and was a huge fan of both the Tubes and SCTV. Just key in "the Fishin' Musician with the Tubes". It's still really funny after almost 30 years, and they perform "Sushi Girl" for Gill at Scuttlebutt Lodge. Fee Waybill cracks me up, as does the late great John Candy.

  • From 3:29- 3:50 He has that Fender Strat screaming! killer solo!

  • @n2motocross That's Steve Lukather playing the solo, and I'm pretty sure he's using a Les Paul or something else with humbuckers; that's definitely not a Strat tone. The rhythm parts are on a Stratocaster, though; nothing else sounds like a Strat on the bridge and mid pickups.

  • This was one of the best and hardest working bands I ever had the pleasure to catch live in concert. "Completion Backwards Principle" .....still ....one of the greatest albums ever recorded. Thanks for the memories......nice video !

  • The Tubes just did what they wanted, when they wanted and how they wanted. Long before it was "cool". Btw, there is no such thing as "New Wave" watch Decline of the Western Civilization part 1 for that explanation. B) Cheers!

  • this vid would rock today......

  • First saw these guys on SNL

  • Love this....its '81 too..man these media clowns today should watch this as a 'How to" ...lmao

  • @tedro1962 Yup, and it still sounds fantastic after almost 30 years. :)

  • The haters can go **** themselves. I saw this band three times over an eight year period and they just destroyed the small (1,500 - 4,000 seat) sold-out venues that they played. Lots of fun and totally, intentionally pretentious. Over the top stage shows with a great mix of PT Barnum and great musicianship. I dig Weather Report, Tribal Tech and Mahavishnu Orchestra as well, but the Tubes rip it up in another way...

  • @guyhowepharr

Hey dude.............try the 70's is when they came out...........if your facts are in question.........maybe most of what you say is too

  • @guyhowepharr

FACTS: The Tubes are a San Francisco-based rock band, whose 1975 debut album included the hit single, "White Punks on Dope". During its first fifteen years or so, the band's live performances combined quasi-pornography with wild satires of media, consumerism, and politics.

  • faggotry

  • Wonderful song. Thanks for uploading it. Not a single hair on my body was straight after listening to this nugget... I miss my youth and the baby's arm holding an apple (lol)

  • Nothin says early 80's like Ray Ban Wayfarers... wonder what happened to my pair

  • This is the closing credits for one of London Ont,premiere morning shows,Jim Chapman your host.Factually,I don't wanna hear the song because I know the show is over.Jim gives great insight into all areas of Canadian politics, with a slight conservative twist, that will be sorely missed at the ballot box in London come this November. We have no race here,Queen DiCicco Best, minus a hubby soon, will be acclaimed to the mayors chair, again.Sigh,I wish we had a real election with candidates and all, sigh.

  • Great song and video. This is how Tiger Woods' "staged" press conference should have gone down. LMAO!!!

  • I always knew him as Fee Trenchmouth Waybill.............we were all crazy then..BUT I LOVED IT..........

  • whats fees real name ?

  • @Manny1241 It's John Waldo Waybill.

  • BEST.VIDEO.EVER

  • Fee is one of a kind. YouTube needs to make them the House Band!

  • Steve Lukather cuts up on this one

  • Definitely sound like one of those "bowl of cocaine on the mixing desk" sessions

  • LMAO...well, I was never privvied to one of "those" events but, I have heard some stories and I laugh and shake my head whenever I think of them. Different circles of people...you know how it is.

  • i love the chaos of this video and the moving camera! Dont see too many videos like this, only other video I can think of that reminds me of something like this is Nine Inch Nails Wish.

  • I bought The Completion Backward Principle WAAAY back in 1981. Fantastic then, fantastic now.

  • When my mother got mad at me she said Talk to you later and sing it love you mom

  • LOL! Only LA women????

  • I interviewed Fee and he said this was inspired while he had moved from San Fran to LA and was hitting the clubs looking for women and got the idea after talking to LA women so much and realize that they never shut their damn mouths....lololol

  • @dannyd1572 Does ANYONE give a flying fuck?

  • @nakedvolleyball Hold on let me check.................um yeah the general consensus is yes..they do.

  • haha this song reminds me of 7th grade! 1987 baby.... the 7th grade teacher used to give me blow jobs.. no lie and she was hot too!... but i kept my mouth shut about it so she never got in trouble, thank god!

  • you really need therapy

  • Your grade seven teacher is a pedophile and should be charged. However you are probably full of shit.

  • @mgarces36 What school did you go to LOL great

  • steve lukather could write great tunes that were melodic and kicked ass.plus his axe work added punch he wrote this in three hours true talent!

  • Steve plays one his best solos ever on this song, next to "Rosanna". The whole band just rocks!

  • Comment removed

  • I knew the Tubes had fallen on bad times when I saw them at a little dive in Chicopee Ma in the mid '80's. The club maybe held 150 people packed in real tight. Anyway, the Tubes sounded fantastic. A bit too loud maybe for such a small place but great none the less!

  • agreed, the completion backwards principle was definately their best album..... talk 2 ya later is a fantastic track, made even better by the fact that the solo in that song was done by Steve Lukather!!!

  • one of the greatest lines ever its been six months and she hasnt shut up yet.

  • By far the best Tubes album from 1981. Their follow up album was a bubblegum MTV piece of crap with "She's a Beauty". This album however, WAS THEIR BEST !

  • I named my son Fee

  • Yes the Tubes are officially the only band to ever declare bankruptcy in the history of modern music. The accepted reason was as some have said for their elaborate stage shows and the costs involved. Great musicians from Arizona either way.

  • I saw tubes with p gabriel and bowie it was first concert ever for bc place in vancouver

  • This band was awesome in concert. Was actually my very first concert at the Uptown Theater in Chicago many years ago!!

  • I was there and I can tell you you missed out, BUT, you can still see them, they shows don't have as many extras but are still excellent, sometimes they had a large cast if it was a big venue, Cynthia Rhodes(Richards Marx's wife, Fee hooked them up) was one of their dancer singers as was Re Styles

yep they lost money,as did BOC with their lasers, that's why BOC dropped the lasers

  • I have always heard they sold out their shows at least in the 70's no matter where they went but they put on such an awesome show with the props, characters, etc etc that they lost a ton of money just from the shows. Seen live video from that era and man, we just don't know what we missed if you were not there!

  • I an attest to the greatness that is a show by The Tubes. I saw them in the early fall of '83 in Salt Lake City and it was one of the greatest shows I've ever seen to this day.

  • Did the place seem more or less sold out? In early 83 they would have REALLY been having the best of both worlds with an awesome show and riding the then success of Shes a Beauty on the charts.

  • Awesome video

  • Also, if anyone's wondering why it was softball, the Tubes liked to challenge people to it because Fee was a great pitcher.

  • My dad used to work at a radio station, and the Tubes were in town for a concert, so they played softball against them. Apparently, Fee had a really good arm, and could've been a baseball player. Naturally, my dad's team was blown out.

  • WOW! What a great video of a great song that I didn't know existed...THe Tubes WERE at the height of pop culture in their day....Few did it better than Fee Waybill. Inserting himself from the original roadie for Tubes into the spotlight as their lead singer...he was the force that brought them top-40 fame. Keep on Rockin Fee!

  • WOW How many in this band?

No wonder there was no money left

  • Amazing that Fee did this stuff. When you hear all the stuff that Richard Marx did Fee was on almost all of it.

  • the 80's RULED...!!!

  • Man you have that right!!! Martha Quinn Nina Blackwood and the real MTV man I loved watching that back then I used to hate going to school, I just wanted to stay home and Jam

  • @Zedsdead1968 Jam in your pants or your sock?

  • Pretty silly to get offended. I mean, the 80's WERE goofy!

  • "She won't ever miss me when she's gone." So, so true. Great song, great great video. Someone had to get hurt with all that shovin'.

  • steve lukather co writer and solo .david foster produced ,bill champlin of chicago on backup vocals

  • Just saw these guys tonight, excellent show!

  • What?? Where??

  • saw them this year myself. rock on!

  • do they still put on wild productions?

  • yep! felt great...we all had plenty of beers...including the band. live it up!

  • best show i ever saw! Oshkosh early 80's. They were told never to come back. Wish i could have left with them.

or Bunny C. great freaking bands if there ever were!!!

  • To experience The Tubes is to see them LIVE.

Their shows are just like THIS.

The very next song (or two) there will be an entirely different stage set or props

  • Seeing Mr. Hate and white punks on dope live in Hays was great. Even got an autograph. Don't even have that from my uncle Bun E. Carlos.

  • i got bun E's sticks from a college concert lol

  • True:

driving my nephews home to IN, waiting for a train, saw the 'santa fe' logo. Rich asked if it was said "santa fee", my 20 year older brother explained it was 'fay', 'fee' was like "Fee waybill of the Tubes"

Spanning generations, the tubes started as 'kitch' rockers, but were too good to stay that way.

My 20 year older brother often refer to the line "the smell of burning leather..."

completion backwards principle was so cool, few in the 80's in wisconsin understood, Thanks guys

  • Yeah, Prairie's on a record by Neal Schon called Piranha Blues. Very raw straight ahead blues rock. Stellar drumming by him and absolutely blistering soloing by Schon. Both Schon and Luke are two of my favorite players. I hear some similiarities in their playing as well (besides the fact that they're both monster players).

  • Smokin' Lukather guitar work and solo. Man gets great rhythm parts, and clean and distorted tones. Wish he'd have done more high energy stuff like this with Toto. Last run in the song is such a burner.

  • Roger Steen did the solo on this song, and most of the stuff the Tubes did, along with Sputnik Spooner. Lukather had nothing to do with this song.

  • Actually, Luke co-wrote it AND played the solos. It was in the credits of the original vinyl, as well as recounted numerous times by Fee Waybill as the beginning of their musical journey together over the following years.

  • You have no clue as to what you're talking about. There is video on Lukather's website of Fee talking about how and Luke wrote the song in about an hour and a half, and that the other guys in the band were amazed it came together so quickly. Luke also has a writing credit on this tune. Next time, check your facts. quehannaband's post is spot on.

  • ive never been impressed with live tubes, but love alot of theyr 80s album songs

  • seen them 9 times and they truly where one of the best bands to see live, during there hay day.

  • In all the comments no one mentions the drummer if you listen hes really good------who is that?

  • Codiac-

The drummer for the tubes is Prarie Prince.

  • thanks john

  • Prairie Prince also was a founding member of Journey, and in his latest incarnation has designed stage sets for the likes of Britany Spears and M Jackson. FYI
