@Bishopx97 They used to run about $4-5,000 for a complete one... I don't know how much they are now... It USED to be cheaper to build.. Don't know if that's the case anymore....
I certainly think it would be cool to build one. I've heard they're a touch difficult to build though. With several AK builds under my belt I'd give it a go for the hell of it. Good job on a successful build.
@MickehDaHuskeh While I do agree with you somewhat, you tell me you would turn down a Ferrari that was governed to 20 for 3% of the original cost and I'll call you a liar! :-P
Does anybody know if Compliance Parts are required for semi-auto MG42s because I plan one ordering one from JG Sales for $2000 and would hate to waste that money on one and find out that I own an illegal gun.
@Patriotusa44 The MG42 that JG Sales sells is 100% legal and compliant as is. I think they even send you a copy of the ATF approval letter.. I've heard of alot of happy owners..
@cheech658 The original MG42 was 8mm, you're right. After the war and 308 became the standard NATO round, the Germans converted their "old" MG42s to that caliber. So I have the conversion for both 8mm and 7.62x51 (308).
i didnt read the title, and when i saw it i was like: that looks like the mg42 from WaW. and then i red the title and got really proud of myself for knowing so much about gunz. but then i remembered i learned it from cod and then i got sad.
Don't feel too bad.. I got into guns based off video games when I was younger.. Then I found out I can own most of those guns I used to kill Nazis with... So then I started my collection!
@bad74maverick It's not HUGE, but it's not small either.. I have mostly WWII stuff that's either bolt action or converted from full auto to semi auto... With some modern stuff thrown in the mix as well.. You can see some of them on my other YouTube vids...
cool, I have a large collection of ww2 and ww1 stuff. I also have 1812-Vietnam stuff like my model 1816 or my model 1817 common rifle, I have a ton of civil war guns but my friend just gave me a ton of parts kits (for digging a 4 foot hole in his yard) including an ak kit, FAL kit, 2 MG 42 KITS both 8MM with 1943 dates and 3 sten kits. Where did you get you semi auto done at? I want to do one of my kits in semi. did my BREN semi and that was a huge pain in the ass to do myself.
@bad74maverick Nice man! Sounds like you got an AWESOME deal on all those kits!! Do the MG42s have complete (cut) receivers? Sounds like they're probably from the same batch of kits that I bought from Angola Armory 5 years ago... Mine is a 1943 as well. I did the rewelding myself. It would probably be as big of a project as your BREN. I did send off my grip and bolt to be modified though. Message me and we can discuss it if you are serious about getting it built. There's good resources out there
@MauserMatt My god the BREN was a pain in the ass. I have no middle part of the receiver but someone told me that the flash threads and receiver are of good quality from BRP. they sell whole done receivers front nuts and complete bolts and just the sections too, so I have some choices. funny thing is I was speaking to the owner of the Co. and when I told him what I had he asked if they or one was for sale. i laughed and said shouldn't you be selling me something.
@diverguy2583 As long as it follows the ATF approval guidelines for a semi automatic weapon, then you're golden. The feed mechanism shouldn't have anything to do with legality.
I have the semi auto 1919A4 also... They're both great!!
I've been lucky enough to fire my buddy's full auto MG42 and i have to say.. GOD DAMN. I have fire the semi autos and they are a hell of a lot of fun too. and the number one reason the semi's are better... CHEAPER.. lol
@r33skyline4life There's no permit required to buy a full auto weapon in the state of Florida. Unfortunately any registered (legal) MG42 cost upwards of $30,000...
To answer your question, no I could not legally make this one full auto. Look up the Hughes Amendment that was signed into law in 1986. Basically any machinegun made after May 86 can not be owned by an unlicensed individual. Dealers can own them, but I'm not a dealer. It's unfortunate, but that's the law. :(
I probably should have said that they were developed and FIRST produced in 1942. that was a mis-communication on my part. but you should definitely chamber for the original caliber, theres a gunsmither near where i live that makes auto bolt/carrier/trigger groups/sears for older/vintage weapons like that, my father just put one in his M1A2 carbine...its sweet!!!
Actually...the original MG-42 (or Machinengewehr model 1942) was developed and produced in 1942 for service by the Wermacth( German Infantry). it was originally a 7.92x57mm round(8mm Mauser). and was produced by the Metall und Lackierwarenfabrik Johannes Großfuß AG company. what many people dont know is that the U.S. M-60 machine gun is largely based upon this weapon.
Actually... this PARTICULAR gun was built by the Germans, in 1943... In BERLIN. As stated.
There were many thousands of MG-42's built during WWII. They were not all built in the same place... Or the same year...
THIS gun was converted BY THE GERMANS after WWII to 7.62x51 (308 Win), thus making it an MG1, as designated by the Germans.
What many people don't know is that very little of the M60 is based off the MG42. Parts of the topcover and feed mechanism, basically... But that's about it.
I do have the parts to convert to 8mm and currently that is the configuration that I have it in. All the parts are is the barrel, feed tray and top cover.
It's semi auto because I didn't have the $40,000 to buy a full auto one....
ya, the full auto one would be cooler but it's still way way cool in semi auto. Q: where can I obtain a semi auto chambered in 7.62x51? also could you tell me about that trigger lever in yur other vid?
I don't know of anyone that MAKES them in 7.62.. But they're very easy to convert. The barrel literally pops out at the push of the latch. The feedtray and topcover come off with the twist of a screw. Oh, and the nozzle cone inside the flash hider just unscrews as well when you take the barrel out.
I know Wiselite Arms is making them in 8mm semi-auto. I've heard alot of good things about them. All those 308 parts are still available so converting it wouldn't be hard.
I've got a wiselite gen 2 ak pistol and i luv it. I had a 1919 with all the goodies I had 2300+ into it, but a buddy of mine realy wanted it so i got about 7 guns for it. wish i had kept it.
That trigger lever is built into the tripod that I was shooting it off of. It's a German HK made tripod from the 70s built for the MG42 series guns. Very heavy. But still cheap to find. I think interordnance sells them for around $350 or so. It also comes with adjustable and lighted optics. It's fully adjustable for windage and elevation as well. Very neat tripod. If you're serious about getting a '42 you'll need that tripod.
well ive got just about everything i want exept an mg 42, i just got a 1918A3 from ohio ordnance 3900.00 bucks later. great gun i'll post a vid of it one of these days
oh it's neater than hell, heavy to, doesn't kick at all, compered to my hk or m1a the action is so slow, you can have a cup of coffe while it's cycling.they sent all kinds of extra crap with it too.
ok I'll remember that,I might be in nevada again this winter I never know for sure, being a coredriller jobs are here and there. but dam it i would kill to be able to fire an mg42
i was just stating the history of the MG-42 class of weapons. i wasnt making the generalization that all MG's were built in '42. i was just giving a little background to the people who may not know. but your's IS chambered for .308 Winchester?
Congratulations! I'm looking forward to doing a semi build myself in the next year or so. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your parts kit from and what did you think of it?
I got my kit from Angola Armory back when they had kits... They've been out for 2 years now. Mine had all the receiver pieces included. Alot of what you find now don't have the back half. You're looking at over $1k for a good kit now.. I got mine for $471 shipped back then.. I wish I had bought 10 of the damn things...
I should have known. Dan's a good guy, and I love his prices. I'll probably end up building up a yugo off a Wiselite receiver at this point, heh. Time to learn to weld better!
I hate see people who dont know how to shoot weapons or will Full light assault weapons only shoot from 1-3 shots. ITS A LIGHT ASSAULT WEAPON. ITS NOT A SNIPER. there purpose to provide cover fire and to keep the enemys head down. if you wanna shoot 1-5 shots PUT A FUCKIN SCOPE ON IT!!
Maybe I was an MG42 newb* at the time because I think I pointed out that I had built this gun from a CUT UP parts kit.. And how you can say I'm a "weapons noob" after watching me handle a hand built gun for 24 seconds is kind of... well... amateurish itself... But whatever. But I digress...
