I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Linux isn't new. That particular version of Ubuntu (i'm guessing 8.04 from the date) was probably newer, but Ubuntu has been around for almost 6-7 years.
Depends on what you judge it on. If you judge on security, update frequency, price, stability, how much you can do with it, Linux wins. If you judge on how good it is for a gaming rig, Windows wins. If you judge by the pompousness of the users, OS X wins.
"Otherwise known as Ubunto" I don't know where you've heard that, but Ubuntu is pronounced "Ooh Boon Too" but some say "Uh boon too". Weird.. Maybe one of your friends are also saying it wrong.
First linux kernel: 1991. First Ubuntu release: late 2004.
Just an aside, telling people how old Linux or Ubuntu "really" is probably isn't going to impress n00bs in the consumer OS space. The first reaction, understandably, will likely be to wonder why they haven't heard of it before, and then wonder if it's because it's not very important, or not very good.
Actually, Linux has been around for quite a while (try almost 20 years). It's just that Dell only just started offering it on a few home computers. ^_^
I run Ubuntu on my Laptop, and I'd agree that it is certainly better for many things than Windows or Mac (although, it can take some tweaking to get games made for Windows to work).
This kid is pretty smart, he got the Mini 9 with Ubuntu. I started running Ubuntu in 2005 so it's been around awhile. Only improvement is KDE, Kubuntu or OpenSUSE.

linux is older that you are you idiot, and there are a whole bunch of different versions of linux that r called differently like redhat and SUSE and ubuntu there's also Kubuntu, so don't go feeding that kind of crap about linux being new.
I hope it makes you feel all warm and tingly inside to tell a relatively smart kid he's an idiot. Hopefully he'll use you as an example of how NOT to behave when he grows up and shares information with those who are younger and less knowledgeable than he is.

Ubuntu isn't that new. It's older than Vista, but not as old as XP.
As for Linux, Linux isn't a Operating System, it's a kernel. You're thinking of "GNU/Linux" and GNU isn't that new either. The GNU project started in 1983, but they didn't get the Linux kernel until 1991.
GNU is not Unix, but it's based on Unix.
I think you mean it has a 32GB Solid State Drive. (SSD) You can't put 32GB of RAM on a Laptop yet. (you'll need a workstation like a Mac Pro or a personal super computer)

If you're gonna use Linux, install gentoo. It isn't as resource intensive and you can do alot more with it.

I agree with the first two, the last comment just proves you are ignorant.

Dude, you swore at what seemed to be a 13 year old kid for stating his OS preference. How is that not pompous?

I did? When? Seems his friends have lied to him.

The other regret I have is that, despite the smaller keyboard, they still found space for a Caps Lock key on yours >_>
