If the truth is enslaved than someones must think that they own the truth to enslave it with all their lies. what irony when its suppose to set you free but when it comes to light those who enslaved it with their lies will win its prize, the very thing they did to it.
Yes. She is a real artist. She turned the notes from a crazed fan obssesed with her -he ended up commiting suicide- into this hounting, powerful love song. I did not know about the background story when I first heard it and though it crude but true. Really powerful. About someone in love with someone else, who did not have a chance. When you know the whole thing, it really looks completely different. Not what I had thought it was but much creepier and nasty. She is really talented.
Man...it's like every single lyrics video has wrong or misspelled lyrics. I don't get it. You'd think people would be more careful about what they put out there.
This song is actually about rape... I would have never thought so, but I'm doing a class on lyric reiteration and I did this song, and the things I found out... god no.
The lyrics are from letters a stalker sent her. He sued her for using them but killed himself before it went to trial. I read it one a site about the truth behind popular song lyrics. Very creepy.
CREEPY TO THINK SHE WROTE THIS SONG ABOUT A STALKER!???? AFTER HER. IF IT'S TRUE? AND I DON'T THINK IT IS. WHAT WOMAN WOULD WRITE A SONG ABOUT A CRAZY -UCK RAPING HER. SO STRANGE.
@SuperPaulieh .....Well artists tend to draw fom emotional circumstances to create their work. If some guy was stalking me I think I'd be pretty damn emotional. Just try to take it as her way of expressing what happened to her in a way she could share with the rest of the world. Oh and P.S typing in all caps doesn't make you seem any more credible than if you just wrote like a normal person
Did any of you Sarah fans ever know, this very song was based on a crazed fan who killed him self, just because he couldn't have her? She even put the words he said to her in the song, 'I would be the one, to hold you down, kiss you so hard i'll take your breath away. And after that I'll wipe your tears. Just close your eyes dear.' Its so sad to come to think that someone could do something so stupid

these lyrics are from a fanfic with kakashi and sakura and it is the best go to google and type in duty before honor you will think it is the best evr
@kirarei12 The lyrics are inspired and at times lifted directly from sleazy fan mail she got. If you listen, you will see it's written from the perspective of a stalker/crazed fan. It's not particularly sophisticated.... quite easy to see.
@Spellbinder888 The fan wasn't exactly "sleazy". Actually he was very poetic and friendly towards Sarah and loved her and believed that she loved him back. One message he sent her was "Oh Sarah, Will I ever hold you on that shore? Or only live it in a dream? Will I ever tell you of my fears? Will you ever collect my tear?" Not exactly what you'd call "sleazy" and "not particularly sophisticated". :L
Content doesn't make it any less sleazy if it's unwanted. If I cornered a women in a dark alley and haltingly recite Shakespeare's sonnets with my hand down my pants, then it's sleazy.
Besides, I severly doubt it was "kiss her so hard" in the original note. I'd bet money it was something far more vulgar ...
@PsychoticLoner Who said anything about cornering a woman? He never went near her, and if you actually saw the notes and what Sarah said about it all you'll see that nothing he said was in any way vulgar. Do some research and get the facts right before you go making up your own theorys and conclusions about something.
Uhh, buddy, step back and look at what you're writing. You're defending a flipping *stalker*. Bad teen romance novels to the contrary, stalkers aren't nice people in any way.
Sure, here are the facts. The Judge was so worried about McLachlan being in the same room as this guy that he threw out his lawsuit on that fact alone. This same guy committed suicide later. Many of the lyrics in this song, though not vulgar, still reveal a forceful, disturbed viewpoint ("I won't be denied") All of this is generally a sign of NOT being a "poetic" or "friendly" guy, a guy who certainly deserves to be judged as beneath everyone else.
@PsychoticLoner Actually the judge wasnt worried about them being in the same room together for Sarahs safety, they thought it was a bad idea because it would just make his obsession with her worse. Thousands of people commit suicide every year, doesnt make him any different from some of them. And you certainly have no right to say that someone who you never even met and dont know anything about is "beneath everyone else". Also pretty ironic coming from the guy called "Psychoticloner"
So, "thinking it's a bad idea" and "worrying" is somehow diametrically
opposed in your world? Good to know.
Yes, thousands of people commit suicide every year. Every one of them is in some way disturbed. Thousands of people commit murder, does that mean it's okay, too?
I have the right to judge everyone. I don't know where you get this idea that I don't. And since you're judging me right now, obviously you don't believe that "no one can judge" crap, either.
Who says I can't? You? Who's the one really playing God, the one who makes value judgements based on public behaviour, or the one demanding conformity to an unenforced, unfounded "rule" that only applies to certain people?
Besides, people who say "don't judge others!" are usually the most judgemental people of all.
Of course I'm mature. I actually think ahead in arguements so I'm not blindsided when someone questions me, though it helps to not have a an ill-supported yet constantly pushed belief like yours. I bet all you did was hear it spouted by someone several times as your whole thought process.
@VampirePandaSama McLachlan wrote the song after having being stalked by Uwe Vandrei, an obssessed fan from Ottawa for three years. She eventually took out a restraining order against him and wrote Possession shortly thereafter, using his letters as the basis of much of the lyrics. Incredibly Vandrei filed a lawsuit against her claiming "breach of confidence" and laid claim to a share of the songwriting credits. The case never made trial as Vandrei committed suicide in December 1994.
"I would be the one to hold you down, kiss you so hard, I'll take your breath away." I remember the first time I heard this song 16 years ago. An incredibly intense song.
That is a great song i love it, but it's kinda creepy. do u even know what it's about? it's about Sarah's creepy stalker who was trying to kill her. the whole chorus is quotes from the letters he sent her
Evans Blue did their cover WITH Sarah, so lets all be friends here. Besides, both versions are great and I like to switch the tempo up depending on my mood.
this song makes me sick. evans blue did it first, and better. i'm not saying anything negative about the maker of this video, this just isnt how the song is meant to be done.
@PURPLEpandaLOL Well, I would imagine that Sarah McLachlan would know exactly how this son is meant to be done AS SHE WROTE IT HERSELF, and actually "did it first".
...... yea evans blue's version is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better. nut only because i enjoy singing in higher keys and also ther alot of vocal harmonics
I think which version you like best depends on which one you hear first. But you have to admit that no matter who sings it the lyrics are great. ( : GO SARAH!
I think which version you like best depends on which one you hear first. Everyone has their own opinion. But no matter who sings it, you have to admit the lyrics are great.
Incredible to know the background... how differently people can listen to the exact same thing and feel it in such an... opposite way... That´s the beauty of art, I guess. I thought it a beautifylly strong and tender song about love. Incredible, her capability to turn horror into beauty :)
This song is not at all about rape. Sarah was stalked by a really sick b@stard and she used some of the words from his letters in the song. He later killed himself and i think his family tried to sue? I put it out of my mind because i wanted to still love the song. I do - it's genius.
@amylh322 He filed a plagiarism lawsuit in effort to get close to her. The trial was frivolous and delayed because they wanted to ensure that she was safe during the proceedings because he was a self admitted stalker. He killed himself and, as far as I know, there has been no suit filed by his family.
@staleserenity Yes, I am aware of this, thanks. I've been a fan since gosh.. 1991 or 2 so I've kept up with Sarah pretty well, She's such a great talent and i think it's wonderful to take such an ugly situation and make something lovely out of it.
Sarah Mclachlan got several threatening notes from a crazed fan and she took those lyrics and turned them into a song what your hearing now was pri one of the scariest times of her life and it turned into a hit the guy who wrote the letter later killed himself
She was trying to imitate the lust and forcefulness of the notes she received, I think(she was stalked), so it is rape-like in a way. And it's pretty, because Sarah and her voice are.
I must admit this song does sound pretty, but I believe all the words to it were taken from love letters she recieved from her STALKER (hence the stalker-ish rape tone). Other than that it's very lovely.
I found out in history yesterday that these lyrics are from a stalker had written to her

Incredible to know the background... how differently people can listen to the exact same thing and feel it in such an... opposite way... That´s the beauty of art, I guess. I thought it a beautifylly strong and tender song about love. Incredible, her capability to turn horror into beauty :)

With the backround in mind, I doubt it was originally "kiss" in the chorus. Some people are just sick.
Great song in any case.

@PsychoticLoner never thought of that, but you may be right. i also love how you call some people sick and your name is psychotic loner!

This is so wonderful.
My mother played this to me when I was a baby. She held me and danced.

@HarvestMoonWish did you know this song is about rape?
1LifeToGo 2 years ago
This song is not at all about rape. Sarah was stalked by a really sick b@stard and she used some of the words from his letters in the song. He later killed himself and i think his family tried to sue? I put it out of my mind because i wanted to still love the song. I do - it's genius.
amylh322 2 years ago
@amylh322 He filed a plagiarism lawsuit in effort to get close to her. The trial was frivolous and delayed because they wanted to ensure that she was safe during the proceedings because he was a self admitted stalker. He killed himself and, as far as I know, there has been no suit filed by his family.

@staleserenity Yes, I am aware of this, thanks. I've been a fan since gosh.. 1991 or 2 so I've kept up with Sarah pretty well, She's such a great talent and i think it's wonderful to take such an ugly situation and make something lovely out of it.

The song has a starnge history:
Sarah Mclachlan got several threatening notes from a crazed fan and she took those lyrics and turned them into a song what your hearing now was pri one of the scariest times of her life and it turned into a hit the guy who wrote the letter later killed himself

This song's lyrics are so lustful and forceful (almost rape-like), but it's sung so prettily... It's like a paradox; it just blows my mind.
MissChelDorado 2 years ago 2
She was trying to imitate the lust and forcefulness of the notes she received, I think(she was stalked), so it is rape-like in a way. And it's pretty, because Sarah and her voice are.

I must admit this song does sound pretty, but I believe all the words to it were taken from love letters she recieved from her STALKER (hence the stalker-ish rape tone). Other than that it's very lovely.
