@dmanstarr lol, it actually is tatty, not tattered. ;) Tatty mean used and worn down or ya know like in poor condition. So basically the lyrics mean that the guy used an old worn out pick up line that he probably used with all the girls.
To madly love someone and learn they've seriously harmed themselves is one thing, but to learn they've betrayed your trust in the process, sealed their fate and their future is even worse. Such a revelation would be intensely painful - any loyal lover would be distraught and might also feel anger. But if someone obsessed by need has illusions about the relationship, gets deeply wounded and bitter over 'mistakes' made by the object of the obsession, the results could be seriously more disturbing.
