Frankie Laine, born Francesco Paolo LoVecchio (Chicago, March 30, 1913–San Diego, February 6, 2007), was a successful American singer, songwriter, and actor whose career spanned 75 years, from his first concerts in 1930 with a marathon dance company to his final performance of "That's My Desire" in 2005, at the age og 92.

I literally grew up with Frankie. My grandmother was his personal secretary for over forty years and ran his fan club till her death. My father took care of his horse for him in the backyard. His songs still move me. I have them all.

These sings by such great entertainers are priceless, yet they come to fore much more powerful at the death of the Frankie Laine's. What kind of person was he? His songs tell me.
when I first came to the US it was June 1960, my first singing voice I heard was Frankie singing this song. I fell in love with him and still love to hear him singing. Last time I saw him in person was on PBS at 92, singing "Its my desire". What a voice. Nothing like that any more they all believe they have to scream and just change every beautiful song to make it their own and for me it does not work. RIP Frankie, no one will equals you.
I was born in the same year...luckily I made it until now...so i can still bring back happy musical memories from the fifties, amongst which of course Frankie...
Frankie Laine became my friend in 1976 when I hade the privilege of covering his UK tour as a photographer. From that year we were permanently in touch by letter and cards. He was a great entertainer, but more than anything, recoginsed that his fans had "made" him and always had time for them. He was a lovely person and many lovely times I spent with him. I miss him, what a sad loss!
Hi, I first heard his voice over a radio at a thrift store in Florida over 4 years ago. Just now I found out who originally sang that "I Believe" Song I liked a lot! I heard a christian singer on t.v. sing it very well, but it is that original one that I liked first!
In 1953, my true love and I in high school went to a concert and heard Frankie sing I Believe from the stage. We decided to go steady after the concert but went our different ways in our college years. I Believe by Frankie Lane is a very special song for me as it brings back wonderful memories from many years ago.
Thank you Joopschilp for posting this. I am old enough to remember Frankie Laine at his best. If this was not his original recording, you could have fooled me. It was great.
When you look back at the time when this song was most popular there were many wonderful singing stars, but Frankie Laine was certainly one of he best, a lovely recording.
I had the honor of being a friend of Mr Laine. We played gin rummy on Thursdays at his home in Pt Loma. He was without doubt one of the finest, most sincere and honest people ever. A tremndous talent that cannot and will never be replaced. I miss him
Thank you for this posting. Having been born in 1962, I missed Frankie Laine's heyday. Thanks to my parents, I learned of him in the early 1970's. Frankie Laine was an unusual singer; his voice was extremely powerful yet very expressive. His rendition of "That Lucky Old Sun" shows great empathy for a man who toils for his paycheck while longing for some sort of salvation, and it always reduces me to tears. For some reason, I am glad to know that he was a fine person, as well as a fine singer.
Frankie was definitely "one of a kind." Memories of him in my teen years are so good. No one sang with as much feeling and intensity. May he rest in peace in the arms of God.
Thank you Frankie,For my early teen-age years; I was there.! All the originals, hundreds of them.(rest in peace my friend)The vitality of this genius had to be seen to be believed. He still holds the record TODAY for marathon dancing.HEAVEN is a better place with F.L in it.
The tribute to Frankie is really great....whoever put it together....good job! The songs that are posted will just live on and on, bringing pleasure and nostalgia to steadfast Frankie Laine fans.
Frankie was such a great performer....there are certain songs of his that I can listen to over and over and over again!!! Yes, may he rest in peace. He contributed so much to the musical industry.
Frankie Laine's version of "I Believe" is lovely, but Jane Froman's version touches the heart and soul. I was in the CBS studio audience when Jane Froman introduced "I Believe" to the American audience and was given the Christopher Award by Father Janes Keller, of blessed memory who was, at the time, the Chairman of the Christoper Society. But this tribute to Mr. Laine is truly lovely. Thank you.
Thank you, joopschilp. Jane Froman's Centennial will be celebrated November 9, 10 and 11th in her home town of Columbia, Missouri. 20th Century Fox is finally releasing "With A Song In My Heart" on DVD on November 13th in conjunction with the Centennial.
One of my idols. I heard him live in Baltimore when he was in his seventies, and his voice was better than ever. He was very popular in France and Europe, and appeared in the Olympia, in the 60s.

Frankie lived a full life and saw the changes in musical trends over the decades. He's truly one of the best singers. The music fraternity of the world will miss him

In Glasgow, Scotland, before a show, Frankie came out on the balcony of his hotel and sang to all us teenagers. They were great times. Thanks for the memories joopschilp.
