Do you think that selling virtual items wholesale would help those who actually farm the gold, or work hard on the account, be able to keep the fruits of their own labor? In other words, create a site for the buyer and seller to meet directly, like eBay.
cool. i was one of the pioneer in pacific server. one thing is different is that i dominated the whole market myself using the dupe bug in 1997. i had about 300 mil gold by 1998 jan (richer than all the players in the server add up im sure :)). 40+ buildings all over the map and islands.
@XionXXXX I would pay taxes if they made everything legal, and inflation free. I would make gold farming/virtual brokering my career if i could, especially if the only thing i had to do was pay some taxes... Who doesn't want to play video games for a job?
i've sold sooo much stuff through Markeedragon made some good friend, i've made around 8 friends from it and we're all on the same server on wow now =) running our own guild, gold farming selling gold etc.
a little off the point when runescape you could trade money from other accounts, i use to run 20 bots off my one pc, i ran them all at about 5-10fps, made alot of money =) thank you markee
I use to buy stuff from peoples sellers at there houses. Then resale them on ebay made around 1000$ dollars. Tonz of fun i wish they could redo UO and come out with a tottaly new version.
One problem - you are making money from the artificial rarity of imaginary goods. You are making money from people who own what you are taking. Other than that - good video.
you talk about paying bills etc etc. Do you make a living off of gaming? or do you have second / third jobs like for example a waitress might have? JW because I am a teen very interested in gaming. I've spent over 2 grand on my gaming set up (1400$ gaming comp, 2 24 inch HD monitors, and some stuff for my comp) so I want to know if you make a alright living gaming?
I make a living and employ several people with this stuff. It's changed a lot from what I described in the video. I think it would be hard to make a living off of working a game these days. It takes a lot more then that.
I bet you've heard of the game Runescape before...I've been thinking about working for them cause I am so interested in gaming. Thanks and great vid's. keep them up.
Basically you would have had to got into this business in the late 90's or early 2000's in order to be successful like Markee Dragon.
Those days have already come and left. The Chinese labor market has virtually taken over the virtual items market in my opinion.
You could still do business in it as an American or European, but the competition is very fierce and you better have a solid brand name built up already in order to sell the stuff.
I miss UO but just no time and find it hard to get back in to. Like you I used to spend obscene amount of hours playing. Probably more than 40 a week, but I had to get a life lol. That game sucked me in thats for sure
Haven't played UO in a few years. Actually just re-activated 2 of my accounts a week ago just to hop on and check everything out, look through my old stuff, and see if any old guild members still play. I checked my guild roster and I still have a guild of 90 people all inactive lol. We hit the top 10 biggest guilds on Great Lakes shard for a while.
I loved those years to, and as Markee says, even if there had been no need for money I would have done it anyway, for free, because it was great fun, you got to meet A LOT of new people. You didnt just talk business with the clients, you also chatted about the game as a whole while you were setting up the deal.
And yes, it was Papa who started (and sold) UOB back then.
One of our strengths as Markee Dragon Brokers (MDB) was that we covered the whole globe. Most of the team lived in the US while I (Thor) live in Sweden and "CH" lived in Singapore. This way there was allways someone online to take care of business, no matter what time of day it was! This, and the cooperation between the brokers, was the major reasons for MDB's success I belive.
Thanks for a great video and a lot of good memories Marcus!
For Ultima Online there was no they had no policy like they do these days. They do have a policy currently that prohibits the sale of items. We however are grandfathered in to where it does not apply to us.
I love these types of YouTube videos in which you discuss your achievements and so on. Why? Because it allows people like myself to learn from your successes and what it was that made you successful so that perhaps the same business practices can be applied to our endeavors in which we may be pursuing.
You have done a bunch of interviews with guests in the past. Why not invite some of your former broker buddies to come in and sit down for an interview with you? This would be great I think!
Heh, i wonder how would you, staying at the bus company, affect the mmo/virtual goods industry.

Just wait til Big Brother and the IRS steps in and regulates the Virtual Economy.
Yep, Income taxes on that WoW account you sold, only benefit would be you can't get banned by the game companies for doing it no more.
