  • It WORKS. Wealthy women and models would go see him in New York City in the 70s to lose weight (at great expense). If you want to lose weight follow the models and rich women!

  • I've lost 50 lbs in the last 5 months eating oatmeal, fruits, veggies, etc. But for the last month I have been at a stand still, losing only 5 lbs. I have started Atkins to jump kick my weight loss. I never go more than one month on Atkins. Add exercise and weight training as well. So far in one week I have lost 6 lbs. Long term Atkins may not be the best idea as far as eating all those eggs, red meat, cheese, & butter. But there is definitely a way to keep your carbs low after

  • low fiber and eating mainly proteins could fuck up your colon ...brock lesnar as an example..he developed diverticulitis as a result of mostly eating meat kind of diet without any fiber..

  • @tagabukastubo You do realize that to keep things moving "down there" you're better off eating more fat than more fiber, right? :P

    Fats lubricate the colon wall and speed up peristalsis and transit time of food and allow it to go through the colon easily. Also diverticulitis can happen from many things including wheat (or rather the gluten/phytic acid in wheat.) Gluten can make small holes in the intestinal tract and fuck shit up. Lo and behold! A google search says Lesnar ate lots of wheat :)

  • @LuniaVideo to be honest bro I'm not sure :) ..i just read articles about it on the net and some other sources...but your point regarding fat and fiber? hmmm i've heard that colon cancer is linked to large consumption of fat and low fiber on an individuals diet...heck you could get hemorrhoids from a low fiber diet.. but if it works for you stick with it..i just keep an open mind :)

  • @tagabukastubo I'm studying to be a nutritionist and I can guarantee you, fat doesn't increase your chance of colorectal cancers.

    Do you know what happens to fiber when it's being fermented in your gut by your intestinal bacteria? It turns into short chain fatty acids (saturated fats.) To say that fats are bad for the colon is the same thing as saying fiber is bad for the colon because that's what it ends up as.

    Vegetable oils are horrid for you and are a GREAT way to screw up your Omega-3 to 6 ratio and raise your risk of just about every type of cancer and inflammatory disease known to man. The only decent vegetable oil is olive oil.

    Coconut oil, palm/palm kernel oil, olive oil, macadamia oil and avocado oil are the only extra fats people should be adding to their diet. Besides fat from meat of course.

  • Hello! Have you tried cleverous 402 diet (just google it)? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my cooworker lost a ton of weight with it.

  • Atkins diet is simply what hunter-gatherers ate. Human race the way we know it has been around for at least 50000 years (and our ancestors led HG-type life for millions of years before that), of them only last 8000 years humans have been having high-carb diet. While 8000 years is enough to change human metabolism somewhat, but mostly humans are same as before neolithic revolution, and therefore it is no wonder that atkins diet works.

  • @LuniaVideo Nope, dairy is animal food, and hg ate it - as all children drink milk. Back in paleolithic children weren't weaned at 5 months, they kept on milk for years. Of course, many people don't tolerate lactose (especially chinese), but europeans mostly do.

    Not only does it raise your risk of cancer and a host of other problems, but can you seriously imagine a caveman sucking off a cow? No.

    70% of the world has some degree of lactose intolerance (this includes Europeans.) A food that 70% of the world can't digest is not a food that people should be eating. It goes against evolution and common sense logic.

  • This what happens to diabetic people.  They suddenly lose weight and gained back later. Insulin was insufficient to transfer the glucose into the body, so the absence of glucose into the muscle forces the body to use ketons products such as fat and protein, and that's how you lose weight.

  • Whether or not you would stay on this diet long term, one thing is for sure, this diet will literally force your body into burning up fat, well it does for me anyway. I don't have too much trouble maintaining weight once I reach my goal, but until Atkins it was near impossible to lose it no matter what I did or how I reduced my calories. I am so thankful for this diet, it puts me back in control.

  • Tried the Atkins diet, & it was a fail. It's the white carbs that kill! There are carbs that help you loose weight & give u energy. I lost about thirty pounds slowly and naturally and kept it off for about four years with brown and wheat carbs. All that meat could cause high cholesterol levels and heart problems. Just because someone looks ideally thin, it doesn't mean they are necessarily healthy.

  • Calculating calories is like full time job. It is posible to lose weight like that, but I dont have time for it. I like simple way, you eat food where is no carbs, you do sports when you have time.

    In 4 months I lost more then 60pounds, I still have like 20 to go, untill I reach my normal weight. I am happy that I bought this book, its paying me off now.

    I love this way of eating, thank you Dr. Robert Atkins hopefully we meet in afterlife.

  • The only way to lose weight is to burn MORE calories then consumed. Having an all you can eat buffet just cause it has no carbs is dumb. Your still gaining weight. Theres an illusion that your losing weight, because your body's stored glycogen is burned, and muscle water is reduced. Theres no longterm advantage.Any fat-loss with this diet is do to your body going into starvation mode due to lack of carbs. It's not only stupid,but in many cases dangerous.   • What did humans eat before the agricultural revolution (before wheat, grains, rice, etc.)? Did we hunt animals and eat a lot of meat, including all the fat (and organs!)? Did we gather vegetables, nuts, seeds, and fruit when it was in season? Did we do all this for 3 million years, until we settled down and began to farm?

  • What many of the less intelligent critics fail to remember is that fruit is seasonal and largely unavailable for most of the year. Also, saying that Atkins is no good because when you come off it you put the weight back on is as moronic as saying that you shouldn't quit smoking because if u start again the health risks return.

  • Atkins worked wonders for me. After losing 20 pounds, I didn't put a single pound back on for 2 months after coming off the diet back to eating high-carb foods. Now I'm back on Atkins to lose some more :) And lost another 5 pounds within 5 days.. Yoohoo :) Big FAN

  • I have every reason to feel thankful for Dr Atkins too! If followed correctly, this diet is great and makes you feel special since you are in control of everything, making the right combinations of foods and watching yourself feed on natural products!

    The atkins diet is for those who want to lose weight and its proven to work! Also a misconception is that your not allowed any carbs, which isn't true. Your allowed 20g of carbs per day from salad and other vegetables, and this is only on the induction phase, which lasts two weeks, after which your daily allowance increases.

  • Despite becoming overweight due to a high carbohydrate diet, I loss ten pounds of body fat over the summer one time even while eating a relatively high carbohydrate diet consisting of fruits and whole-grain bread. Carbohydrates are not the enemy, it's how much of it that really matters. And for me, it was mainly self-control when it came to eating that brought me to a healthy weight.

  • @ToxicMonkies No your not, carbohydrates are NOT an essential nutrient. Their simply used as another form of energy for your body.

    Cut the carbs and it forces your body to use fat as its primary fuel source.

    Of course some foods which are high in essential nutrients also contain carbs, but atkins doesn't rule out carbs altogether, your allowed 20g of salad and other vegetables per day on the induction (the most restrictive phase)

  • Atkins is great for individuals who are sensitive to carbs. Sticking to Egg Whites, Chicken Breasts makes it so you don't consume too much useless fat. I am a very active weight lifter 5~6 days a week. Consuming around 190 grams of protein per day. Only downside to Atkins from what I was told it makes your body acidic and makes it so you are more prone to injuries if you play sports. So on a weekly basis I have 1 cheat day and I just carb load. Seems to work for me, mess around with it.

    i lost 26 kg is 6 month, now i am 25 years old.

    My problems: hypertension, heavy legs gone.

    Now a days i don't eat only bread and skin of chicken.

    i am trying to eat hour by hour (10am, 12pm, 3pm,6pm).

    I love Atkins Diet, there is all food i love t eat daily!!!

  • people look into this so much. Its a diet something you choose to do for yourself. You can also choose to throw a little carbs in there once and a while. It's not like when you do a diet you have to stick with it strictly. I'm doing something like that atkins and feel great lost a few pds already too. Just watch what you eat and work out consistently = good health.

    If you read the book, it doesen't keep you from carbs and fruit forever, just at first to put your body in "ketosis" then you can add them in later. Usually when the whole world is telling you to "do it this way" and someone else who "goes against the grain" like Atkins and explains in detail how the body works and how we are addicted to sugar, it makes perfect sense.

I have lean meat & a salad or low carb veggies you have to eat 4 cup of veggie a day.   • We even see the efficacy of a protein rich/fat rich low carbohydrate diet in large populations. There are hunter gatherer tribes all over the world NOW that don't have access to carbohydrates, and subsist on a diet of meat, nuts, seeds, and vegetables. And even among the SEDENTARY elders who no longer hunt, they are slim and suffer no degenerative diseases. One doesn't need a degree in nutrition to understand this, one only need look at a National Geographic special.

  • I lowered my carb intake for about a week I think it was and everyone noticed i'd lost weight. I think I must have lost about 5 pounds, it was such a suprise, but you have to stick to it otherwise it all comes back!

  • Its a LIE that Atkins eliminate fruit. many people can eat up to 80 or even 100 grams of carbohydrate on mantainance , thats a lot of room for fruits and vegetables, specially fruit which is antioxidant and phytochemically rich.

Atkins emphasizes eating plenty of vegetables, fish, chicken, healthy fat such as almonds, avocado, etc...where did you get your "tons of bacon" info......obviously from someone who was NOT doing the Atkins diet ...eating tons of bacon unhealthy and stupid as hell....and no fruit, LOL! FYI, I eat everything except for white flour, processed foods, and sugar....

  • thanks for caring! Been eating the Atkins way for 2 years, I have lost 103lbs, and I have had my blood workup x3 in the past year...and the results were excellent each time! I have tons of energy and I feel wonderful!

    Naysayers need to get their heads out of their rears and take a look at how it's helped people get their bloodsugar, cholesterol, appetite, and such under control.

  • I have noticed that the atkins diet is a normalizer! if you have bodyfat to lose, you will natuarally eat a bit less, but if you're working out with weights, your apetite will increase naturally to repair muscle :O. I was a sceptic to this diet just a few weeks ago, untill I realised I have gained weight on it, but at the same time, lost body fat! And no more blood sugar crashes :)

  • Dr Atkins diet helped me not only to lose 50 lbs of fat/toxins but also helped me understand why I got fat. My blood pressure excellent, cholesterol down, look younger, energetic, and above all, I feel healthy. Coupled this diet with exercise and discipline to care for my health.....life is good.

  • So thankful for Dr. Atkins!! I've lost a lot of weight in my lifetime, after each of my 3 pregnancies in which I gained a lot of weight. I would eat barely anything and have hardly enough energy to function. I have ruined my metabolism, trying to diet time and time again. I'm down to those last few pounds and Atkins has helped me lose weight when all else has been failing me. I've recently lost seven pounds and I feel GREAT!!! TOTALLY LOVE ATKINS!!

  • The Atkins diet is very close to the French diet, and pre the American junk food on Europe, the French are known to love their food and remain thin.

    I have been to France and I can tell you, you can consume a lot of steak, cream, and green leafy veg over there.

    They however do eat bread and pastries, but it is not consumed before bed and any old time of the day.
