BOC had a hard time breaking thru the Southern Rock shield of the late 60s and 70s. North Fla was enamored with Skynard, Allman Bros, Molly Hatchett and 38 Special and just couldn't grasp what BOC was doing. A flippin shame because when I shared my vinyls at parties the locals couldn't wrap their banjo brains around Buck and the boyz..
@wattruth Whatever?.. BOC loved to play the south in the 70's, on their live album SEE they played Little Rock Arkansas and Atlanta Georga...because we loved their music...fuck that southern rock crap!...We wanted BOC! and they delivered!
FM radio today is a mere shell of what it was....the songs are 'pre=selected' by "program managers and the DJ's cannot deviate from that...all in the interest of squeezing that last almighty dollar from advertisers. Also,DJ's for years now have bounced from genre to genre in the interest of staying employed.I knew 1 who went from top 40 to a country western station. Maybe thats why they use the 'programmgrs'...DJ might have zero knowledge of what he/she is spinning....
@grgoldner and each and on those holy nights when dusters dust becomes the sell, and Lucifer the light.
translation.
and on those nights we loved so well that we sacrificed our sleep and the visit of the sandman's sand in our eyes, till the morning star was seen. ( the morning star- Venus- is also known as Lucifer. )
or they were jacking off all night. there are two versions of it on the BOC faq.
@kosh1968 Phosphorus was another name for Lucifer as well as a household match. Lucifer, as you correctly said, is also known as the morning star. Ascribing human characteristics to a stellar object by saying: "It is the proudest star and the last one to disappear at the break of dawn", sees to be in order. The same applies to the blood-red planet called Mars, red because of the blood spilled due to bloodshed and war.
@gobinday: Oh for crying out loud that is SAD! I keep wondering about the staff at KLOS here in So Cal. How the hell do they live with themselves?! Going to work to hear "Sweet Home Alabama" a million times. Not that the bands they play aren't some of the cream of the crop but you know what I mean.
@MattHatter uh, yeah, it's sad yet it's funny, in a twisted way ~ "So-cal's 'best' rock,' my pudgy Polish posterior! Oh, used to be a 'rock station,' but come on, now that manly voice gives way to another spin of "benny & the jets," squeak, (Lord have mercy) ~ yeah, "sweet home" made its mark, A Lifetime Ago, but hey, how do y'all feel about hearing 3 or 4 songs in a row w/ at least one Dead Guy in the band?!? So what's up, anyway, w/ this finite loop of songs, yesterday, today & tomorrow? D'oh!
One late night I called a local rock radio station and requested this song even though I knew there was no chance in hell they would play it. The female teeny bopper intern who answered the phone said "Seven what ...??" Hey, I gave it a shot.
I had a little day dream while listening to this song of speeding through a city at night on a motorcycle trying to get to something or somewhere before the sun rises. Like some sort of demonic , vampire biker in search of seven elusive victims racing to capture them all before the sun comes up or else the mission will be failed and will have to return to Lucifer to get punished.
I went out with a Diz-buster when I was in high school and she had six sisters. when they all showed up at a party we played this song......... I wonder if they are on facebook..Baahaaa
One of my favorite BOC tunes ever!
I WANT MORE BLUE OYSTER CULT, NOT LESS!

@wattruth BOC is certainly not a redneck band like the ones mentioned. Too good for southern rock.

The "On Your Feet Or On Your Knees" live version was one of the greatest listening experiences I've ever had. Buck just smokes in this.

The younger voice of Eric Bloom, his voice got better with age I think. Great track from Tyranny & Mutation.
