to clear it all up ...if you are a good imatator then you can adjust your accent to the country you are in...I am from pittsburgh pa , usa ( an accent only ptiisburgers have in the whole country of usa) and I only picked up a few slang words over here in Ireland ...I have been her 5 years and still have not picked up the accent ...but would I? I cont find myself saying tird for the word third and tree for the word three...great to listen to the irish speaking though..I LOVE IRELAND....
i dont wanna lose my accent when i get older!!!!!!! -.- i hate living in the us i want to go back to livin with me mum in ireland but noooo she wont take me
nice to everybody posts on here. but ur accent is too educated to be a natural accent if u get my drift. it sounds modified. how cud anybody loose their accent! i have never lost my accent from the small shitty town i'm from...its different than the rest of the nation practically in some ways, but yet it comes out in me the whole time!
well apparently you havent met very many people from countries other than your own..or you're just stupid..i have a friend from australia that has lost her accent everytime she visits the states..and i have a very northern american accent that i lost after living in the south for a few years
sure, you lose your accent if you want to... personally, i have never lost my accent even if i lived away from home for extended periods of time. Depends on how much your influenced subconsciously or consciously!
I have a friend who was raised by his grandmother in Ireland but had lived in Boston, Mass. in the US for many years when I met him. He has a beautiful mixture of Irish and Boston accents now and I love to hear him speak!
By the way, I totally get that all the time about people thinking you are sixteen... I don't know when you posted your video but I just posed my photo (very current) and just yesterday a girl stopped me on my way back from Violin instruct, demanding to know what high school I went to. When I told her I went to University, she shrieked " What! I thought you were like 16. Are you doing that middle college thing? " I said " No, I'm in normal college and I am 24." She shrieked again " What! No way."
I was at boarding school with people from all over the country so whatever accent I had before that would have been diluted a bit, I know we had one guy from Dublin who lost the edge off his accent after a while.
Apparently (pause, Enema's just came on the stereo and I had to fast forward to next song, how the feck that got on their feck knows?) apparently...naa, forgot what I was going to say now.
Didn't Ronald Reagan start his speeches with "Irony"?

People lose their accent by being around a large group of people that have a different accent.
It's part of our instinct, we're social animals so we naturally try to be like the rest of our group.

It's not really a matter of desire, it's just something that happens, like developing a habit.

Also, having been raised in Ireland and having lived here for the last 20 years I get irony.
Irony means kinda like iron, right?
