@ztoben76 Both our 580 mAh and 850 mAh batteries have more playtime than the stock battery Apple put inside. And we guarantee ours for ten years. Head to our site for specific mAh battery power comparison charts, and we hope to see your order soon.
it looks exactly like your's but... this is my first time fidgeting with any electronics... can anyone tell me the specific battery an ipod video has?
@archdevillucifer If you have an iPod Video (meaning, in addition to playing music and showing color photographs, the device is also capable of displaying color video AND has a 30GB, 60GB, or 80GB hard drive AND has a black or white PLASTIC front face), then you have the 5th Generation iPod Video. Head to our site and click on '5th Gen iPod Video Repair' and then look for the battery kit to get started!
Great video and the music really makes it happen - too bad it is just looped, the whole scherzo would have been fine! I know this comment is unessential, but a little praise is nice too!
@pelefan245 Yes, it makes a big difference. Bear with us here:Our 580 mAh battery is appropriate for the 5th Gen 30GB and 6th Gen iPod classic 80GB and 120GB. Our 850 mAh battery is appropriate for the 5th Gen 60GB and 80GB, and the iPod classic 160GB (thicker, older model). If you have the newest, thinner 160GB iPod classic, go with the 580 mAh battery. Phew! Confusing, huh!? Just remember, 6th Gens are HARD to open and should be sent to us; 5th Gens iPod Video is easy to open with this kit.
@pelefan245 Actually, the batteries we sell for the 5th Generation iPod Video are the EXACT same batteries that we sell for the 6th Generation iPod classic. HOWEVER, the 6th Gen iPod classic was designed to be very difficult to open, compared to the 5th Gen iPod Video you see here (requiring customers to send their 6th Gens to us for battery replacement). Also, there are two sizes of bats for this model, and we suggest you call or email us to understand the differences there. Hope that helps!
I replaced my battery on my ipod video 5th gen but when i was trying to put the ribbon back into the connector, the connector fell out. what can i do to fix this??
@meggybaby2 If you are refering to the brown plastic clasp that holds the battery cable in place, you should just be able to slip that back on to the white-ish battery connector. But if the battery connector itself came off, we would have to replace that and solder on a brand new one - assuming that the five solder pads on the logic board that it connects to are still in place. Please give us a call on Monday (800-809-8133).
@ipodjuice how much would this cost to do? because my battery connector came off and i placed it back on but no luck getting the cable to attach :/. also i live in the UK is that a problem?
@jamesf12 Not a problem at all in most situations. Just place an order on our website for our 5th Gen iPod Video repair evaluation and then send your device to us with the order confirmation that we email to you. This will then allow us to evaluate your device and quote you the repairs needed. Thanks!
@jamesf12 Yes, our Repair Evaluation service is the place the start. We then apply that charge towards whatever parts and labor you require. @51jahlove Yes, all you need is a new headphone jack assembly for your 6th Gen iPod classic - please head to our website and place an order for that, and we can get that repaired and shipped back to you quickly. Thanks, and hope to see your order soon.
Thanks for your reply. With egg dripping from face, I actually have the 6th Gen ipod with the METAL face plate. No wonder! Lol. Anyway, I'd love the spruce up my 6th Gen ipod with a white plastic front. I will visit your web site and follow the instructions. Thanks again for your speedy response.
@51jahlove No worries, mate - it is a common mistake. That 6th Gen iPod classic was designed to frustrate. Sure, you can just send the device and kit back to us using the same order number (make sure that the order numbers is inside your package) and a brief letter and we can take care of everything for you. Have a nice weekend. As info, 'Fort Knox' was on tv just now and I had to watch a few minutes of it!
Hello. Do you guys doctor up the ipods before you make your videos?? You make it look awfully easy to open the ipods. I'm very mechanically inclined and I must say I tried opening my 5th Gen ipod with the exact too you used and it's just about impossible to open the ipod. I held it exactly as you did and there was no way i could get even a small opening to insert the same tool you used. I could have broken into Fort Knox a lot easier.
@51jahlove Nothing was "doctored". Send us your 5th Generation iPod Video (30GB , 60GB, and 80GB sizes and have a black or white PLASTIC front) and we will make a video of us not only unboxing your device, but also replacing your old stock battery with our brand new battery using the tools we sent in less than two minutes. Challenge: On!
P.S. Make sure that you haven't confused the 6th Gen iPod classic (metal front) with 5th Gen iPod Video - those cannot be opened with this kit.
Why doesn't my click wheel work everything else works i can restore it and it lights up when i lock and unlock and when i put it too it's side but my click wheel doesn't work only to reset it and still it doesn't respond!!
Hi, i Just replaced my battery, face plate, and LCD screen. I can hear the hard drive working, the little apple is on the screen, but not lit up, and my ipod won't do anything else. I have it hooked up to my computer and itunes isn't finding it. Did I do something wrong? I triple checked to make sure i put everything back in its place.
@amt0715 Hmmm. Sounds like the hard drive cable is not connected to the hard drive and/or the logic board, or the hard drive cable was damaged. Hard drive cables are pretty easy to damage. Suggest you consider sending your device to us for one of our repair evaluation services and we can get it working again most likely.
@amt0715 Prices change over time, so best not to list that here - but head to our website and look for our 5th Generation Repair Evaluation Services for all the details and prices.
@ipodjuice Is it something difficult to replace on my own? There aren't any tutorials out there showing me how to do it. By the way, thank you for being so helpful.
I have a question. I have a pink ipod nano 8g and I have it plugged into the wall jack & then tried the usb for computer and it WILL NOT CHARGE! So Im guessing I need a new batter? I was going to buy one on ebay and try to change it myself.
@sunderhoeksema The U2 edition came in two flavors: one that was akin to the 4th Generation iPod and one similar to the 5th Generation iPod Video. As far as this video is concerned, it is appropriate for the U2 iPod that is capable is displaying videos (in addition to photos and playing music). If you have the U2 iPod that cannot play video, then our 4th Generation iPod battery replacement kit is for you.
@HDMEMO Yes, that is perhaps the classic sign that battery in your device needs to be replaced - please head to our website and get the do-it-yourself kit- you won't regret it!
Can anyone send link to the tool this guy using in the video?? But it must be the exact tool not those other cheap ipod tools they are to soft and bad to use
@shavi72 Head to our site - we sell this blue tool (and instructions) without the battery. Yes, those cheapo green (usually, but they come in other colors) are crapola. You need a great solid tool like we offer to do this job right.
@CrispyDiegoDonuts Not really. Try charging your new battery first to see if that message goes away. If it does not, check your battery connection to make sure that it is secure. If you are still having issues, contact us and we will see if we can assist.
@coasttocoast15 Yes, the 30GB iPod Video battery is the exact same battery for the 80GB and 120GB iPod classic (and the 850 mAh battery is identical to the battery used in the 160GB iPod classic). But the newer iPod classic is very hard to open, and we recommend that you send that one in to us so that we can replace the battery for you.
@eLLeeeN33 There are two sizes of batteries for Apple's 5th Generation iPod Video. The battery for the 30GB battery is a tad thinner than the battery for the 60GB/80GB iPod Video, so if you are trying to install the larger battery in the 30GB version of this model, then that would explain why you are having trouble closing up the device.
@hippiechickie18 Oh but it is - if you have the right tool! Give us a call and we can tell you all about out do-it-yourself kit. Now, if you are still having trouble, perhaps you have a 6th Generation iPod classic and not the 5th Generation iPod Video that is being shown here. THAT device was designed to thwart opening efforts, but we can safely do it here in our shop. Might want to give us a call so we can discss - thanks! Anthony, Owner
@ipodjuice I opened my 5th generation iPod with a butterknife and it wasn't that difficult. I opened my friend's 6th generation iPod video the same way to replace the battery though and it put up quite a fight! The 5th gen is fine, I traded it for an iPod touch though, but my friend's 6th gen look a bit banged up now.
@hippiechickie18 We have all the parts needed to get those devices looking as good as new again. Yeah, we don't recommend using metal tools for this battery replacement - that's why our kits have these great plastic tools.
I have a question, you know that little clasp that holds the ribbon cable for the battery in place on the ipod? Mine went missing, do your battery replacement kits have that clasp on the ribbon cables when you buy them?
@Darkjames78Original Yes, we know of the clasp you are speaking of. No, our kits do not contain that piece because this clasp is already a part of your iPod Video. The good news is that the clasp you are speaking of just holds the battery cable in place, so if yours is missing, simply use a bit of tape to secure the battery cable so that it stays in the port. Good luck!
@ipodjuice About your service repairing the Ipod 5th gen, I was wondering if it also replaces the port that connects the battery cable to the Ipod. I was trying to do it myself replacing a new battery and when I was connecting it to the port, it broke off.
Are you guys capable of fixing this and does it cost extra?
@LOLURCATS Well, our printed instructions are WAY more detailed than this video, and they address your questions very clearly, but to answer, the small black tool is used the gently pry up the clasp that holds the old battery cable in place and no, replacing the battery in your iPod Video does not wipe our your data/songs - those are securely stored on your hard drive and are not affected.
@losoman123 You are incorrect, losoman123. The device shown in this video is the 5th Generation iPod Video (black or white plastic front, 30/60/80GB). The iPod classic is actually the 6th Generation iPod (black, grey, silver metal front, 80/120/160GB). Yes, Apple confused a ot of people with that one. We have kits for the 5th Gen iPod Video, for the iPod classic, you will have to send it to us as Apple designed that one with a difficult-for-average-consumer-to-remove backplate.
i just bought a 30 gb 5th gen ipod from my friend, and i was thinking of buying a spare battery kit, im just wondering how many hours of playback i can get from your bats?
@SuperWeng10 Howdy! That information is on the product description of our website, so please head there for that information, as well as some other great detail about this battery kit - thanks!
@JovanJosse Well, there actually is no 750 mAh battery for the 5th Gen iPod Video - we sell them in 580 mAh (for the 30GB version) and 850 mAh (for the 60GB and 80GB version). And no, they are not interchangeable. Hope that helps!

Need to mention that extream care must be taken prying tha battery from the case. The thin ribbon cable that connects the Pause button that runs under the batter maybe(was) attached to the battery back and may(did) tear when separated. Looks as though it could be separted from the back if care is taken to ensure it is not attached.
@Jtwus The detailed instructions that come with our battery replacement kit for the Fifth Generation iPod Video actually address this, as well as several other things that you need to watch out for. That is why we say that this video is not intended to be a replacement for our most detailed instructional brochure that comes with our kit.
it would hold a charge when it was in 2 pieces but as soon as I closed it, it would stop working. But after removing the blue foam and grey rubber it thinned out the ipod and gave the battery cable extra slack, so when I put it together it continued to work. Something to try for those having similar problems.
I replaced the battery but it wouldnt work at all..was just telling me 'battery very low' when it was plugged in. (it would work fully when plugged into a wall charger though)
I found out that since the new battery is slightly thicker, and the battery I ordered had a pretty short cable, I had to remove all of the blue foam and plastic inside my ipod to make it as thin as possible, because as soon as I closed the ipod it would pull the battery cable too taught. It would work fine and
Hey, I ordered a battery and replaced it about 2 weeks ago. It worked great for a while and now sound only comes from the left ear. Don't know what I did wrong and how to fix it. Help !!!!
@jp1095 Hello there. Sounds like the headphone jack cable is not full connected to the logic board (in rare situations, this can come undone). Give us a call with your order number and i am sure that we can talk you through it.
@CrazyPiker CP - no, that is not normal. Either you have a bad battery (unlikely, but not impossible) or you have larger iPod video issues than just a new battery. Please give us a call or email us and we can suggest a few other things.
@Mrleeartmaster Hmmm...that is either battery or LCD - suggest you choose our iPod Video Repair Evaluation so that we can figure it out and give you our findings so that you can approve or decline the repairs.
wow, thank you for this video! I replaced the from cover(housing) on my ipod, the battery and I added a new screen to my ipod(all under 20 dollars [ebay]) thank you! =)
@gingervittis Wow - that's ambitious! This video is really for just replacing the battery, but kudos to you for figuring out the rest of the process. Want a job?!
@HumpingFroggy@HumpingFroggy The iPod classic, or 6th Generation iPod, is VERY similiar to the 5th Generation iPod Video that you see in this video, BUT your model was designed with a very hard to remove back plate. Why Apple chose to do this is not apparent, but likely to thwart battery replacement attempts. We suggest that, if you have the 6th Generation iPod classic, to send it in to us so that we can replace the battery for you in a way that lets us use the backplate again.
Hey, got a question for you. One day I tried to turn on my Ipod and got nothing. It wont turn on, when I plug it into the computer i dont get anything on the screen and it isnt recognized by my computer. Is it done for, or could this be a battery issue?
Try doing a reset by holding down the center and menu button for about seven seconds and release. IF that does not work, yes, try a new battery - that seems to fix most issues!
those lay down at the bottom near the charging port - we have a picture of where those need to go in our battery replacement instructions - email us and we can send you a picture so you place them back in.
Help.. My battery was not holding any charge.. So I replaced it with a new one.. and NOW it works fine when connected to a power source but it immediately shuts off when removed from said power source..
Either the logic board on yuor device is bad, the battery connector is loose, or you have a bad battery. Please get in touch with us and we can get it figured out for you.
Before I opened my Ipod (U2 Ver.) I could still somewhat use it, but after I opened it and closed it again without replacing the battery because I purchased the wrong one, it won't turn on anymore. It only shows a lightning bolt when I charge it but once I take it out it doesn't even turn on at all. Can anyone help me with my problem?
SOunds like the hard drive came disconnected or the battery is not fully connected to the logic board - you can send the device to us for an evaluation for a nominal price - please give us a call so we can discuss your options with you!
i just did this and my screen is all messed up and now when i take my battery out of teh charger it shuts down immediatly and it charged for 4 hours im going to break something--
Hey there RW. Sorry to hear that. Please check your LCD connection (may have come loose) and install your old stock battery to see if the battery you received was fault in some way. We stand by our bats for 10 years so contact us if you try these things and still have issues!
I am considering replacing the battery of my ipod as it just doesn't hold a charge anymore, not even when plugged in. However, I am a newbie at doing these sort of things and I am worried about ruining my iPod. It is off of contract already because of its age, but I would like to know if this is something that anyone can do and if it isn't is it possible to send it in and get it done, and if so, how I can guerentee this is legit, like I won't loose my ipod because of sending it in.
Hello everyone I have a 5th generation 30GB video. Can someone tell me why my ipod turns hot when charging it.. also after fully charged the battery is drain out for some reason real fast.. does this mean I have to replace my batteries?
i am thinking that this sounds more like a hard drive or logic board issue than anything else - please head to our site and place an order for an evaluation so we can figure it out.
I have a Question, I have an 60GB Video Ipod and It ALL suddenly won't turn on & when I put the Charger in, it will won't turn on or anything, Does that mean My batteries are dead???
I have a question. I have order a new battery from you for my 30G video 5th gen but Im not sure if that the problem. Right now my i pod refuses to turn on at all but the backlight for the screen blinks like it attempting to but doesn't have the power do you think the battery is the problem?
either you have a bad battery from us (unlikely, but not entirely impossible) or your iPod Video has larger issues - does the same thing happen when you place the old stock battery back in?
thank you. What I do not understand, however, is why people like you always present those kind of video what they ALREADY opened their ipod.... people are searching video of how to start the opening process, because the first time it's hard. They. want to see how long it took you, and how you did it...
negative. your data will not be lost when disconnecting the old battery and re-connecting the new one. Just to be safe, however, we DO recommend a sync before your start the replacement.
well i had two choices... waste $60 for apple to replace the battery or spend $16 and a few minutes of my time... which i did... and i don't regret it :)
Normally, we'd do that. But to be blunt, the 4th gen nano should only be opened by professionals. They are SO hard and fragile, it would be irresponsible to put out a video or a kit for THAT particular model. The other iPods, sure, piece of cake for most people. But the 4th Gen nano is an animal - please send it in to us and don't think of trying that repair by yourself - you have been warned LOL :-)

@HDMEMO Yes, that is perhaps the classic sign that battery in your device needs to be replaced - please head to our website and get the do-it-yourself kit- you won't regret it!

Can anyone send link to the tool this guy using in the video?? But it must be the exact tool not those other cheap ipod tools they are to soft and bad to use
shavi72 10 months ago
@shavi72 Head to our site - we sell this blue tool (and instructions) without the battery. Yes, those cheapo green (usually, but they come in other colors) are crapola. You need a great solid tool like we offer to do this job right.

I replaced the battery but, my screen still says "Please Wait. Very Low Battery".
Is that normal?
CrispyDiegoDonuts 11 months ago
@CrispyDiegoDonuts Not really. Try charging your new battery first to see if that message goes away. If it does not, check your battery connection to make sure that it is secure. If you are still having issues, contact us and we will see if we can assist.

mareble412 1 year ago
great demo. one question - is the battery from an 80gb ipod classic compatible with a 30gb 5th gen video?
coasttocoast15 1 year ago
@coasttocoast15 Yes, the 30GB iPod Video battery is the exact same battery for the 80GB and 120GB iPod classic (and the 850 mAh battery is identical to the battery used in the 160GB iPod classic). But the newer iPod classic is very hard to open, and we recommend that you send that one in to us so that we can replace the battery for you.
ipodjuice 10 months ago
the two halves of my ipod won't close all the way... PLEASE HELP?
i think the new battery is thicker than the original??
eLLeeeN33 1 year ago
@eLLeeeN33 There are two sizes of batteries for Apple's 5th Generation iPod Video. The battery for the 30GB battery is a tad thinner than the battery for the 60GB/80GB iPod Video, so if you are trying to install the larger battery in the 30GB version of this model, then that would explain why you are having trouble closing up the device.

THAT device was designed to thwart opening efforts, but we can safely do it here in our shop. Might want to give us a call so we can discss - thanks! Anthony, Owner
ipodjuice 1 year ago
@ipodjuice I opened my 5th generation iPod with a butterknife and it wasn't that difficult. I opened my friend's 6th generation iPod video the same way to replace the battery though and it put up quite a fight! The 5th gen is fine, I traded it for an iPod touch though, but my friend's 6th gen look a bit banged up now.
hippiechickie18 1 year ago
@hippiechickie18 We have all the parts needed to get those devices looking as good as new again. Yeah, we don't recommend using metal tools for this battery replacement - that's why our kits have these great plastic tools.

I have a question, you know that little clasp that holds the ribbon cable for the battery in place on the ipod? Mine went missing, do your battery replacement kits have that clasp on the ribbon cables when you buy them?
Darkjames78Original 1 year ago
@Darkjames78Original Yes, we know of the clasp you are speaking of. No, our kits do not contain that piece because this clasp is already a part of your iPod Video. The good news is that the clasp you are speaking of just holds the battery cable in place, so if yours is missing, simply use a bit of tape to secure the battery cable so that it stays in the port. Good luck!
ipodjuice 1 year ago
@ipodjuice About your service repairing the Ipod 5th gen, I was wondering if it also replaces the port that connects the battery cable to the Ipod. I was trying to do it myself replacing a new battery and when I was connecting it to the port, it broke off.
Are you guys capable of fixing this and does it cost extra?
Thanks.

I have a couple questions
1) What is he doing with that black tool and the battery ribbon? Is that hard to do?
2) Does changing the battery delete all your songs?
LOLURCATS 1 year ago
@LOLURCATS Well, our printed instructions are WAY more detailed than this video, and they address your questions very clearly, but to answer, the small black tool is used the gently pry up the clasp that holds the old battery cable in place and no, replacing the battery in your iPod Video does not wipe our your data/songs - those are securely stored on your hard drive and are not affected.

this isnt 5g its the clasic
losoman123 1 year ago
@losoman123 You are incorrect, losoman123. The device shown in this video is the 5th Generation iPod Video (black or white plastic front, 30/60/80GB). The iPod classic is actually the 6th Generation iPod (black, grey, silver metal front, 80/120/160GB). Yes, Apple confused a ot of people with that one. We have kits for the 5th Gen iPod Video, for the iPod classic, you will have to send it to us as Apple designed that one with a difficult-for-average-consumer-to-remove backplate.

Need to mention that extream care must be taken prying tha battery from the case. The thin ribbon cable that connects the Pause button that runs under the batter maybe(was) attached to the battery back and may(did) tear when separated. Looks as though it could be separted from the back if care is taken to ensure it is not attached.

@Jtwus The detailed instructions that come with our battery replacement kit for the Fifth Generation iPod Video actually address this, as well as several other things that you need to watch out for. it would hold a charge when it was in 2 pieces but as soon as I closed it, it would stop working. But after removing the blue foam and grey rubber it thinned out the ipod and gave the battery cable extra slack, so when I put it together it continued to work. Something to try for those having similar problems.

ipodjuice 1 year ago
I replaced the battery but it wouldnt work at all..was just telling me 'battery very low' when it was plugged in. (it would work fully when plugged into a wall charger though)
I found out that since the new battery is slightly thicker, and the battery I ordered had a pretty short cable, I had to remove all of the blue foam and plastic inside my ipod to make it as thin as possible, because as soon as I closed the ipod it would pull the battery cable too taught. It would work fine and

Im going to change my ipod classic's ipod jack, where might i buy tools, or can i use a household appliance?
HumpingFroggy 2 years ago
@HumpingFroggy @HumpingFroggy The iPod classic, or 6th Generation iPod, is VERY similiar to the 5th Generation iPod Video that you see in this video, BUT your model was designed with a very hard to remove back plate. Why Apple chose to do this is not apparent, but likely to thwart battery replacement attempts. We suggest that, if you have the 6th Generation iPod classic, to send it in to us so that we can replace the battery for you in a way that lets us use the backplate again.

Here's my scenario:
I dropped my iPod in water, it froze on a screen until it ran out of battery.
From there, it wouldn't turn on, so I put it in rice for a few days.
Now it turns on when it's plugged in to my wall socket, however it immediately turns off whenever I unplug it.
Would replacing the battery fix this issue?

I am considering replacing the battery of my ipod as it just doesn't hold a charge anymore, not even when plugged in. However, I am a newbie at doing these sort of things and I am worried about ruining my iPod. It is off of contract already because of its age, but I would like to know if this is something that anyone can do and if it isn't is it possible to send it in and get it done, and if so, how I can guerentee this is legit, like I won't loose my ipod because of sending it in.
