The guy who breaks into the school is the little boys future. -_- his mother needs to be saved? Welfare? He got picked on for been poor so he goes back to shoot up the school. It shows what this kind of mental abuse can cause in the future or a child .

@TechnologyMAN1245 The kid wishes basically for everyone to go away since he was hurt by being bullied. In a sense, his wish came true after he isolates himself and escapes the people by spending time in the Nurse's office. It seems that a murderer went into and killed some people, many probably were able to escape since there aren't bodies lying around all over the place. In the end, well, that is ambiguous. The murderer can be the kid as an adult or just someone who felt the same as he did.

Another interpretation is that the bullying he experienced is not the problem: that he suffers from a real mental illness.

And that society is asking him to do the impossible (turn 65 cents into a dollar) and be just like everybody else but he can't be just like everybody else.

In other words, if society had been a little more insightful about the fact that he was slightly different from everybody else (aren't we all?), then he'd have a good job instead of turning into a mass murderer.

but you can't take 65 cents and rent a room and work hard and turn it into a dollar.

When a young man finds himself in a tight spot financially, he's going to need a little bit of generosity (from a friend, from a private sector employer, or from government) in order to get the ball rolling.

very good short film, especially the built up tension...it captured me all the way. Also how these images created a narrative that could go in any direction (altho in a certain context). i liked the plot and didn't experienced it as if they are implying this or that. i think it must be more seen in a aesthetic way, how these images are adapt to emotions of the viewer. And that's pure art! Loved it!

he fell asleep in the clinic. the nurse didnt notice he walked in if you pay attention. so the gunman came on campus and the nurse got out of there without realizing somebody was asleep in the other room. if you watch the clock, he was asleep for about 2 hours. the gunman didn't kill everybody, but he undoubtedly shot at least one person (because of the bloody hand print and the blood on his shirt)

it's pretty smart but didnt win the oscar bc of some goofs (like the phone)

I frankly think that itś telling us to stop using violence all the time, showing a childs potential and feelings...etc. Iḿ sure you can find a meaning that suits you if you just search for it. After all is not all the greatest movies like that?

May be, that the miracle fish indicates the aura of a person. John reads on his paper (2:33) "compassion". In the hand of the blood-smeared man (13:33) the miracle fish don't move... and John read "dead one"... So the fish affirms the truth. Both were bullied, but the difference is in the aura... the bare essential of a human. This vid set me thinking. Many thanks!

ill give you all a sick analysis - the man was probably bullied in school just as the kid is. trials and tribulations took him to this moment, and he lowered his gun upon seeing the kid because he saw a reflection of himself - who was alone. the kid is not the one showing compassion - he is just an innocent kid, but the man shows it as does the guard who immediately embraces the kid - foreshadowing that he will be shown love/compassion in his life so as to not end up on that path. IMO

He hides in the sick bay and sleeps through an insane man coming to the school and the evacuation of all the students. He finally encounters the man and shares the miracle fish with him, but the man is sniped. Compassion could refer to the kid's kindness (or maybe just innocence) or the sniping that ended the man's misery. I find it tragic either way

@causticbox Basically It's the boy's birthday. His mother packed him a lunchbox with a fortune telling fish. He placed it on his palm and it indicates compassion which could be read symbolically as to what the boy means. After his nap at the sick bay and wakes up, everyone in the school is gone and he thought it was because his wish came true. When he later meets the killer and puts the fish on his hand, it indicates "dead fish" which coincidentally reads his fortune.
