Joss always knows how to set the mood with his choice of music. Save for the Buffy episode called "The Body". That music deliberately had no music. He said because music was a comfort for the audience and guided them in how to feel. He said that he wanted that episode to reflect the reality of losing a loved one. Boils down to him saying that there is no comfort in that. You feel what you feel.
@lolarayyy Unless you go by Jed and Maurissa's commentary, in which they posit that maybe Whiskey just cleans up the bodies and starts all over again, waiting for more people to show to Safe Haven. I kind of like that idea.
@enya0742 That was my reading of it, she stays above the toxic gas and the sequence had the feel of something that had been done before and would be repeated.
@lolarayyy I don't think she died. I think she killed those people with the gas. She was above the level of the gas. I think she just waited there forever for more people to save.
Gotta say, not only do I worship the ground that Joss Whedon walks on, but given the single photo shown in this vid, I also must say that I adore Amy Acker. When she first appeared on Angel, I absolutely despised her character- kept waiting for them to kill her off. But AA did such a fabulous job with her, that by the end, she was as dear to my heart as any other Jossverse character. Then with Dollhouse, AA blew me away again. Wonderful actress, hope to see a lot more from her in the future.
hmm thats an interesting theory!!but epitaph one could have been the worst case scenario...IF caroline had NOT succeeded...maybe in Epitaph 2 all this may never have to happen!
@eternalsunz The show hinted that Caroline's spinal fluid could inhibit "printing", and they wanted to harvest it from her. Probably only to use selfishly, and not to help the populace of the planet. She had not choice but to take out Rossum.
I honestly believe Epitaph One was one of the most impressive things I have ever seen on tv. Seeing Topher and Dewitt like that was tragic. Whiskey/Saunders dying was surprisingly moving. Joss Whedon is a master, IMO, the greatest television writer of his time. Even with Sci-fi shows he creates great atmosphere, characters you love, a deep story that just draws you in. He may not be the biggest writer ever, but nobody has the devoted fans he does. He's my biggest influence as a writer.
At the moment, I' m mostly focused on stand up comedy as it's the only work I can get. But I also write short stories and comics. Me and a friend are writing a script but we haven't worked on it in awhile. You?
Whiskey may or may not have died. In the commentary, Jed and Maurissa say they left that question up in the air. I love me some Amy Acker, so I hope the more positive result was what happened. :P
It actually really got me when Topher died, in the second part of Epitath. It's unfair how he's plays with your emotions but he does it oh so very well :)
@joeydownfall i loved this episode too, and i love how he laughed quickly, just before dying, looking at "to remember", even if he knew that he was going to die
He did it for the same reason he programmed her to hate him. Guilt is Topher's theme, and this isn't just constrained to Epitaph One. He programmed Whiskey in a way that would punish him for Alpha's loss of control.
I don't think he did; i think the point of that was that 'actives with own feelings' theme - he had no idea till he heard her say it, though likely that is what caused her to feel that way. (alpha cutting her up)
Whiskey wos 1 of my favorites i think she stayed back because she wos still waiting for Boyd, who had probably died because he was out on his own. a part of her realised this, and thats probably what drove her crazy - that and the fact that she knew she was imprinted
I rewatched this episode last night, and came up with the same idea! I never liked their relationship, but I find it kind of sweet that Claire/Whiskey would still be waiting for him. :(
When I heard this in Epitaph One, it sent chills through to the bones. It rattled me, and yet I couldn't move because I was so frozen in shock. This is such breathtaking song... Thank you so much for posting this!! :D :D
I really hope that Whiskey didn't die. I think she was waiting for Boyd because he said that he would come for her. I wonder what happened. The episode had too many questions.
And the song was so fitting. Amy Acker was so brilliant in that scene. That should have given her an Emmy for that.
This song is so beautiful. I just watched this episode, and I almost cried once this song came on; so perfect with the ending.
The only downside is that every time I listen to it, I don't want it to stop! I just want it to go on for ever.. It's so breathtaking, I'd definitely listen to a full length album with lyrics, vocals and instrumentals this beautiful.
Very nice song and extremly good episode. I was a bit disipointed about dollhouse season 1 until this episode (very high expectations, when joss does something) but this episode is as good as it gets.....
As expected, a top-quality song (after Firefly, I haven't expected less from Joss and his writers)... very melancholy, yet describing Epitaph One's future more than regular dialogue could. Hope the viewership stays steady - that by itself will nearly guarantee Season 3
im so sorry whisky, im so sorry...
