  • At 2:18, the Super Mario Bros 3. audio seems a bit glitchy. Is this a problem with the system, the emu, the rom, or just the video?

  • @TehGingersaurus Sometimes NES can be a bit glitchy because of the timings and everything. It plays SNES better than NES; But then again, there is probably a newer version of the emulator available since the video was made which resolves minor issues...

  • @gp2xwizinfo Okay, good. I'm assuming that the GP2X Wiz can be used no matter what sort of computer you have as long as you have an SD card. I heard somewhere that it was Linux-only, but I think this just means that it runs Linux, not that it requires a Linux computer to run. Is this correct?

  • @TehGingersaurus Yes, you are correct. You can manage the SD card in any operating system, it is just the device which is running Linux.

  • Is there a list somewhere of arcade games this can play?

  • @grendelee Search Google for "mame gp2x_wiz 2.2 full romset" and then one of the various results should list out all the roms it supports in MAME. And then remember it also supports CPS-2 games (such as 1944, Super Street Fighter, etc) through another emulator

  • How do you manage to get good framerate on Mortal Kombat?

  • @wussup12345 Set the CPU clock to 800 mhz before launching it from within MAME4ALL...

  • @gp2xwizinfo Can this Handheld play high advance games?

    Games like :

Mushihimesama , Street Fighter 3rd strike , Jojo Adventure , Time crisis , Turtles in times , Violent Strom , New Dopancphi games 2000 and higher , basically any Mame game that is higher than 1995 or 2000...

  • Comment removed

  • @bensbrilliantvideos lol no. I wasnt talking about that.. Those games I listed are from high level of mame emulation and from CPS3 system.... I already know the answer to this now btw. The wiz can not play very good mame games ! I high Advance mame games the wiz can not handle like the list I listed...

  • @XXXXNanoXXXxxx Street Fighter, jojo, and turtles in time...I think.

  • I need to get one of these systems! cool video

  • can anyone explain how to get pockestsnes work. Whenever I start it up it immediately freezes

  • @mangemonk42 There is now a patch for that on the openhandhelds website. just plop it in the snes folder and replace the files.

  • How do you manage to get such an apparently good framerate on Outrun ? It's rather choppy on my Wiz using mame's latest build, and my Wiz is overclocked to about 760 Mhz (that's about as much as I can overclock it before it hangs at each attempt. I can't go up to 800 Mhz like most people seem to be able to :/.

  • @Kafei2006 That is so weird - I have outrun set to run at 800 Mhz, which is probably why it does not run choppy for me. I wonder if you have a different version of MAME4ALL that I do? You might want to see my home page and download my Wiz SD card contents so that you can compare versions of MAME. Good luck!

  • @gp2xwizinfo well I did. I just can't overclock my wiz to 800Mhz on ANY software. seems i'm not the only one either judging from a poll I saw on some boards somewhere. Some wiz can even go up to 900Mhz no problem, some it's 800, some have problems even starting at 750Mhz. I don't get it either.

My problem might be because I have hundreds of mame roms on my card though, that might slow down Mame a bit

  • i haven't bougth either but the larger screen on the caanoo appeals to me while the d pad looks better on the wiz... shees.

  • Did these small awesome consoles sell well? and how much would one go on ebay for?

  • @Retardedcorporations I don't actually sell them directly (I'm just an enthusiast), but they seem to do well. They've actually come down in price by about $30 since last year both on eBay as well as with merchants. You're looking at about $149

  • ok i got a ? when you get the system for the first time do you have to put the emulators on there or are their already on the system when you get it? and are they all on there?

  • @Curlyman172000 You will need to download and place the emulators / roms on there (I recommend using an SD card)... Or alternatively you can see my Wiz site because I have posted an comprehensive zip file which contains many of the most popular emulators and shortcuts ready to go. Hope this helps!

  • @gp2xwizinfo hi yes i just got a wiz and i try to down load the emulators but its not letting me it keeps saying application not found and i dont knw why its doing that plz am not that technical on this so plz i need your help am very confused about the sub directory thats where i get stuck at and i tired to down load the instructions and no luck says the same thing plz help. can you get back to me asao plz cause i want to enjoy this great console

  • @Curlyman172000 I will email you back with more details but remember to have the basic directory structure such as (root)\game\MAME for the emulator directory, and place roms in (root)\game\MAME\roms ...

  • Out of interest i haven't looked into much of the hardware, though there is no way for people to play multiplayer games on the GP2x wiz is there?

I wish they had included something simple like bluetooth that would allow it over a short distance :(

  • How long does the battery life last?

  • @Guernicaman About 10 Hrs of Game Play I believe

  • Do you have any info on the Caanoo?

Do you know if one can use the same emulators that someone would use for this on the caanoo?

Do you think that playing games via eumlators on the caanoo will fall to the wayside to make room for the multiplayer games and the like?

  • Oh, and do you think that some or all of the games on the soon to be gph app market will be compatible with the wiz?

  • @twigs45 That's an excellent question - my guess right now is that many if not all apps will be compatable with the wiz. The apps will be designed to run on the linux based OS, so there should be not problem...

  • @twigs45 From what I have seen on the Caanoo, it can already run MAME4ALL just like on the Wiz. The question will be whether a new build of MAME4ALL will be released along with the system to possibly allow emulation of addtional titles.

  • Can you play Marvel vs Capcom on it? I would buy it once it is able to play N64 games and others flawlessly, because it looks interesting.

  • @SonicMaverick3000 Yes I use FinalBurn alpha to play Marvel vs Capcom. You have to create a graphics dump file using their utility first but it runs well. I am not sure if or when it will support the N64 simply because it doesn't have the same # of buttons.

  • @gp2xwizinfo can you show us gameplay of wwf wrestlefest on mame on this please?

  • can you play n64 games?

  • @theakkw Not yet unfortunately.

  • Would you say that the MAME emulator runs at full speed?

Have you tried PS1 emu's for it?

As long as MAME runs at 95-100% this handheld is for sure a must have. Let me know how well the MAME games run on it. Thanks.

  • @iRemainNameless As far as PS1 goes, the games run in slow motion ... so not a great experience. MAME, on the other hand, runs exceptionally well for most titles. MK and NBA Jam are great, just need to fine tune a couple settings. Older classics run without a hitch. Did you have any specific titles in mind?

  • @gp2xwizinfo I do, X-Men:Arcade, TMNT:The Arcade Game, Turtles in Time. I hope those play well. I can't wait. Just bought one from a re-seller in Canada and should have it in 2 days.

  • @iRemainNameless I have played both the X-Men arcade and TMNT Turtles in Time and I can say it handles them perfectly. Very pleased with those games as a matter of fact...

  • Can this run Super Mario RPG? The Dingoo doesn't.

  • @CapitalistBacon this can

  • Where Do You Get Your Roms

  • @TheBeatlesFan100100 There are a number of big sites out there which carry ROMs for all the old platforms. Just do a Google search of "gamename rom" and you should be directed to an appropriate site...

  • Can you make a video on how to put the emulators and roms on the gp2x wiz

  • @TheBeatlesFan100100 I have an extensive tutorial written on my web site called "GP2X Wiz Emulators" ... go to my site under Tutorials. hope this helps!

  • where can I get that console?

  • @noah83mx Since YouTube doesn't let me post web addresses check my youtube profile for the web address of my home page. You can get it from there...

  • can you use windows for this console

  • @TheBeatlesFan100100 I am a Windows XP user and have had no problem at all managing the contents of the Wiz SD card or internal memory. Just plug it in like a regular USB device and you can work with the file system. See more info and tutorials on my main site...

  • How to run the 1944: Loop Master ? I cnt run it under normal MAME :S

  • @rbusa14 I highly recommend using Finalburn Alpha as the emulator - it handles the CPS2 games really well (1944 included). You can check my site under Tutorials >> Emulators to see a list of recommended emulators and where to obtain them...

  • SSFII is laggy. I guess this answers my question for MK2. I'm guessing it would run like a slug on this?

  • @ThePumpus SSFII runs well for me using Finalburn Alpha. As to MK2 I've been unable to load it in MAME so I've been playing the SNES version for now...

  • This looks impressive. I have full rom sets for mame, genesis, snes etc on my pc. Will these roms work with the wiz?

Can it emulate the N64 or is that stretching it a bit?

  • @nickbaldeagle01 I would say that most will work - there are some exceptions because many of the emulators are still a work in progress. Unfortunatley N64 has not been emulated yet. My favorites at this point are the MAME and Neo Geo because of how beautiful games were from that era. It's pretty awesome to imagine how expensive the Neo Geo used to be and now it's playable in a handheld LOL. SNES runs games really well with a few exceptions.

  • @gp2xwizinfo Cheers for the reply. I'm more interested in the older MAME games anyway. I've hacked my PSP to run MAME4ALL with limited success. Some games work, some don't. But I really like the idea of being able to easily install emulators on a handheld device rather than the tortuous firmware hacking that I need to do on a PSP.

Gunstar Heroes on a Genesis emulator on the Wiz would make me a happy bunny indeed. And Robotron on MAME. Hmmmmm.

  • @nickbaldeagle01 I never even bothered to attempt a PSP firmware hack because the instructions seemed very tedious LOL. I'm running Gunstar Heroes Genesis on the Wiz among countless other MAME favorites. Have not heard of or played Robotron yet but will have to check it out! Also posted a file on my site of my SD card directory structure + all emulators and config files ... minus bios and rom files due to copyright

  • Not heard of Robotron? Made by the legendary Eugene Jarvis, the genius also resonsible for Defender.

Anyway, yes, I've downloaded your zip file off your site. All I need now is a Wiz. The PSP is tedious to hack. Yes I've managed to do it but the game compatibility is flaky.

    No. It's Wiz time.

Shame really, 'cos the PSP has a really good display. Could've been a world beater.

  • @nickbaldeagle01 So I just tried Robotron for the first time and have to say that it's wicked fun! Worked great on the Wiz. You're right in that it has a very similar feel to Defender as far as sound and graphics are concerned. Wow so much fun! Let me know once you get the Wiz if any other questions come up. Use the forums or contact form on my site...

  • I will definitely invest in a Wiz. I just need to get a job first. This bloody credit crunch saw me lose mine last year. But soon, hopefully.

I might open a different YouTube account just dedicated to it.

  • hello.

is the d-pad work perfectly with fighting games, especially with quart circles (like "hadoken" in street fighters games) ?

PS: excuse my english grammar, i'm french...

  • @gouken78 That's a good question - I find that the hadoken works well but it is hard to do the shoryuken (forward, down, forward motions). I hope this makes sense!

  • Hey, would anyone know if the GBA emulator for this device auto-patches? I'm planning on getting one, but I've got a few games that I normally play through fan translations. They're also one of the main reasons I'd like to get one. Along with that, how great is the battery life?

  • To be honest I am not sure what auto-patching or fan translations refers to. I would be very curious to know though! Can u educate me? As far as battery life it gets about 10 hours of play time per charge.

  • Auto-patching is a feature included in the relatively well known Visualboy Advance emulator. This is used mainly for Fan Translations, which are translations of games that didn't make it to western shores. Good examples are Fire Emblem 6 and Mother/Earthbound 3, both of which have had installments from their respective franchises released in the west, though Nintendo didn't bother to release these specific ones.

  • The fan translations are separate files from the Rom itself, a script that needs to be applied to play the game in the translated language. The auto patching feature recognizes the patch and replaces some of the original game's data with it. Thus, the player will now see the original language replaced with the translated language.

  • Wow i like this concept - there are probably many great games from Japan that never make it over to the USA. I wonder if the standard roms sites have these? I will take a look for the titles which you mentioned and also tinker around to see if those can be applied onto the Wiz. Thanks for all the details!

  • Thanks! If you need any more information, I can give it to you.

  • Great Video man.. Thanks for uploading !!!

  • I was thinking of getting one of these but I hear the Pandora is out soon. I don't know which to get. :(

  • I've got a Pandora on pre-order so once they ship out the first batch I'll get to try it. I notice that the hardware of the Pandora will be more powerful but the emulation community around that device is not yet as established as the Wiz. I just hope I don't have to wait a bunch of months after getting my Pandora for there to be decent emulators available !

  • This is the best handheld gaming device I've ever seen.

  • The WiZ has replaced my PSP, DS, and GBA SP as handheld consoles, and most likely will partly replace my ps3 also!

  • I have the latest mame romset (0.135), so I'll try to find some older copies then! Thx.

  • How'd you get Outrun working in MAME? It comes up saying it's missing files when loading the rom, but when I look at the .ZIP, those files appear to be there?

    "10380a NOT FOUND

    10382a NOT FOUND

    10371 NOT FOUND"

    etc...

  • Yeah, roms can sometimes be tricky with MAME4ALL - there are definitely versioning issues where a rom will work with MAME on the desktop, but not MAME4ALL in the Wiz ... so I suggest hunting around and experimenting until you find a version of outrun that works on the Wiz. It's out there somewhere !

  • I'm honored you chose my video to respond to!

  • Just pulled the trigger on one of these! :)

  • Awesome :) Have fun and let me know if u have any questions about getting stuff up n running ...

  • Will do. Haven't messed with Linux much at all, so hopefully the learning curve isn't steep! I'll try to read up on the forums as much as possible before it arrives. See if I can't prep an SD Card beforehand! Looking forward to using this soon, as I go to Mexico and have some ~5hr flights in my future because of that! :)

  • The good thing about the Wiz is that you don't actually need to know Linux. I'm a windows guy myself (sorry everyone LOL).... it has its own intuitive interface for launching the emulators. I should have a few tutorials on the site in the next week or so...

  • Received my Wiz yesterday. Went and bought a 32GB SDHC card too. Loaded it up with MAME, NES, SNES, Genesis, GBA games. Not much to it - and that's having not touched emulators in probably 5+ years or so. As long as you have some experience with emulators and know what to expect (and most importantly, what *not* to expect), this thing is great. I was playing games inside of an hour.

  • Also dude, i can't get my Neo Geo emu to run for the life of me. Its one of the main reasons i got the wiz. Could you post some screen shots of how you have it set up etc or something!?

    Thanks!!

  • Hmm that's weird. GnGeo is the emulator i use and it's never had a problem for me. I posted a more detailed response on my site in the new Q & A section because of YouTube's restrictions on comment length and inability to include helpful links...

  • One other thing which I forgot to mention is that you need the Neo Geo bios roms in order for the games to be playable. In MAME the file would be called neogeo.zip and goes in the ROMS folder. With GnGeo it appears that I selectively placed several of the NeoGeo bios files in the roms folder (NEO-GEO.ROM, ng-lo.rom, ng-sfix.rom, ng-sm1.rom) ... So if you haven't then use Google to find the NeoGeo bios...

  • Hay1 You've got some great clips of arcade games there. I have mame2.4 running on mine but some of the games aren't as goodas yours. E.G. you mortal combat looks much newer than mine. And your super street fighter. Can't see that as oneof the games mame2.4 runs?! What acrcade emu are you using? Love those games!!

  • For Mortal Kombat, set the WIZ Clock option to 800 MHz, and Video Aspect to "Scale" - Also, I run all Capcom roms on Finalburn Alpha ... it handles them much better. I started a Q & A on my site and answered your questions in more detail. Please check it out...

  • How the PC engine / Turbografx runs in this handheld.. ?

    NICE review BTW ...

  • Thanks for watching :) - The name of the emulator to run PC Engine / TG16 is called "Temper", and can be downloaded from openhandhelds [dot] org

  • Does the capabilities of GP2X WIZ affect the SPEED / GRAPHICS or SOUND of the games ?

  • I've seen it handle the TG16 games flawlessly, as well as many of the arcade games and classic consoles. For some of the games which render in true 3D, there can be issues - this seems to be not because of the hardware (the Wiz has a 3D accelerator), but because some of the emulators aren't taking full advantage of the Wiz capabilities...

  • Thanks Bro.. That helps a lot..

I appreciate it. Am gonna be getting me one soon !!!

  • You're most welcome. Let me know if you have any other questions. I now have a contact form set up on my web site...

  • Hello mate. Great vid. Just got my wiz and loving it!! Having a few problems with some bits and pieces so would love to get hold of these resources you mentioned. How do i do that?

  • Putting together the home page as we speak ... Send over any questions and I'll try to include some info on the site !

  • Cool! Do i just post them here or is there another address?

  • You can post them here no problem...
