  • i love the lilly white sessions.

  • Beautiful song! Thanks Jake1729!

  • Most beautiful.....

  • Why the hell does Busted Stuff not have Boyd and Roi's intro to the 'Why should i....' bit? Thats one of my favourite bits in ANY DMB song!!

  • Thank you.

  • Damn, I remember when I heard about the Lillywhite sessions in 2000. I was scrambling to gather all the songs off of Napster before it went belly up. This is by far the best DMB album ever recorded. Heartful, emotional and very real and moody. When I feel like shit, I listen to this album all the time. It's a real shame Dave had to be so low to make this album, but he should be proud of it. Some rare stuff here.

  • This cd was incredible for me... I listened to it every night in the hospital in 2001-2002 and, for some reason, it kept me sane and got me through one of the rarest types of cancer...

  • The Busted Stuff version of this song is busted. This will always be the original and my favorite of the two.

  • What an extremely haunting version of this song. The lyrics are much more depressing than the ones on BT.

  • Hope this is played again someday.

  • Dave is the captain of my ship

  • I got lucky, I literally was handed the cd from my dads old friend. was in middle school at the time. This cd is a big reason I listen to DMB.

  • God this song and record that they scrapped is just pure brillance.

  • 4 people arent captain of their life

  • 4 people have no life whatsoever.

  • Where can i get the pic shown at 1:18 - 1:45?

  • This song brings back memories of my forever lost love. Jonathon I will always love and miss you! He had a great love for DMB's music as well.... Someday we will be together again I can only pray....

  • Thanks for posting....I actually like this version better than the track on Busted Stuff.

  • God damn this song is so fucking good.

  • Is there any way to get "captain" on my ipod?? I LOVE this song. I was wondering the same about most of the lillywhite sessions. If anyone knows please let me know. Thanks.

  • Is there any way to get the lillywhite sessions on my ipod?

  • @domitius42 If you go to my website at jake1729 [dot] com/dmb, you can download the WAV files; those should play on your iPod.

  • @jake1729 I LOVE YOU. Just thought you might want to know. lol.

  • @domitius42 ha, good to know! I assume the files worked?

  • @jake1729 yeah. thanks a million.

  • Lillywhite sessions should have been released, the songs are much more intimate and the over all harmony is dave's raw emotions. The busted stuff album does no justice for these songs, I don't even bother listening to it, only Lillywhite.

  • @dmbandgroove yeah i agree with you. although i think the bartender version on busted stuff is better. but can't believe that they junked these songs for everyday. what in the world were they thinking...

  • I remember when this was leaked back in 2000...Dave was going through major depression when he recorded these tracks. If I remember right he was even flirting with suicidal thoughts?

  • @thedude0088 Yes, I remember that too. Very sad, but I'm glad he pulled through it.

  • @thedude0088 man...i didnt know that. It seems all creative people go through some type of depression some time in their life

  • busted stuff is one of there finest pieces of work

  • where is the outro???????

you left out a very important part of the song my friend,,,,

  • @ayrtonsenna46 What outro? After he says "after all", that's it....

  • love it!

  • Wow, fantastic job. Keep up the great work. I will deffinatley be keep up with your vids. :)

  • well done. I usually don't like youtuber videos like this, but you did a very good job capturing the song's theme and the images matched up very nicely.

  • Great job u have done :) keep up the good work

  • @steilers Thank you! I'm working on a video for Raven right now; the lyrics are really hard to understand so it's a bit laborious!

  • hey jake, when i go to your website and click on one of the songs it just plays it and goes to a white screen. It doesnt let me download it...

  • Great Song! I hope that I will see Dave Matthews Band in Budapest, Europe once

  • I love this song :) Thanks!

  • i went and got the lillywhite sessions but i couldnt get kit kat jam or the raven do you know when they will be getable cause currently wont let you download those songs ?

  • Dude, great job with the video, it was amazing. I think it really captured the spirit of the song. Do you have videos for the rest of the lillywhite sessions? And if so, would I be able to download them anywhere? Thanks.

  • Thanks. I haven't done all of them... yet. You can go to jake1729 [dot] com/dmb to download the ones I do have.

  • that was One of the most heart moving videos ever...Dave is magical and I adore them all for the power of truth they put into each soul filled song

  • boyds solo round 4:06 is the Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!!!!!

  • This version is so... haunting...the howl in his voice. Thanks to whomever posted this. LOVE IT!!

  • You're welcome! Check out my website to download the WAV.

  • I first heard this song as a Dave and Tim acoustic track and then downloaded this in 2000 and couldn't wait for the release. The "updated" Captain doesn't do this justice.

  • Ah! also the picture of Dave on the headstone; morbid maybe but funny too, the way you literally translated the lyrics to images.

  • Amazing song and the pictures were both beautiful and funny at times, thank you!

  • Thanks! And I'm really curious, which pictures were funny? Just curious.

  • i think at the corus where you show the lips, eyes and finger tips, more cute than 'ha ha' funny i mean. Maybe my vocabulary isn't up to scratch:)

  • No, no, that makes sense. I am glad you liked it. I do have to ask... I'm looking at making another video... which song from the Lillywhite sessions do you think I should do?

  • Hmm.. well my favourite would have to be Grace is Gone but i also love bartender and Grey Street...this is very hard to choose! I'd love to see Grace is Gone but i think that would be really hard to convert to film

    What had you thought yourself?

  • Well, I had thought about Bartender too, but it's REALLY long. I think if I were to choose today though, it would have to be Grey Street, but possibly JTR. So many good songs to choose from!

  • Yeah, JTR is a really good choice too, its so dramatic i'm sure you could have a lot of fun with it...thats the problem with dmb isn't it? too many good songs! :) he he...

  • Also awesome images! Thanks for putting that together!

  • OMG this is sooo groovie ! Carter is the man even in the quiet parts. Gorgeous!

  • 3:36-4:30 is like the best part of any dmb song..ever..

  • Wow... only 3 times? I saw him 4 times this year alone! :o) I can't wait for next year!! His concert's are amazing and so different everytime. I live in Nj and am planning to travel all the way to Colorado to see him at Red Rocks or Boulder next year.

DMB IS THE BEST BAND THERE IS.

  • Heyyy just wanted to say great video...very well made. Always loved captain, first time hearin LilyWhite sessions version. Like the busted stuff version a little more but they're all good :)

  • you're very lucky then, 3 more times than i have! sorry about the mixup. i'll check out your site 2morrow, friend! :-)

  • huh. now im stumped. if i have the right jake, most of our convos were about dmb, and sports. i asked what your fav song was at the time and you said Two Step. and you'd seen dave live many times. lmao i'll soooo embarrassed if i have the wrong guy. but your s/n stood out as soon as i saw...and usually i have a pretty good memory!

  • I'm afraid you have the wrong Jake. Yes, DMB is awesome, as are most sports. But, I've only seen Dave live 3 times, very low in comparison to others. Favorite song though: Monkey Man or Lying in the Hands of God. But don't worry about it! A friend of Dave is a friend of mine!

  • No, I don't think I've ever told anyone I like baseball :-) Not a hockey buff either. I give up! Who, when, and where?

  • p.s., thanks for checking out what happened at your site, look forward to happy viewing! and a nice job of what you did here as well. :-) well, must tata for now...

  • My site is now back up.... jake1729[dot]com/dmb

  • sun devil football? lol never heard of em. hmm sure you didnt tell me u were a baseball fan to impress me? :-P im partial to football myself. and another sport too. if you're an old school hockey fan, then the numbers in my current s/n should be a dead giveaway, no matter where yer from. wink.

  • yes i did have a different s/n. another hint: you and i had dave in common, and when we chatted last, he'd recently released Some Devil. lol told ya its been a long time! i believe u were also a big baseball and basketball fan...teeheehee but what city you're from i'll just keep to myself...ring any bells yet?

  • Dang... I still can't remember. When Some Devil was released? That was a long time ago. And baseball / basketball fan? Not me. Sun Devil football though.

P.S.... figured out my website... should be fixed tomorrow.

    More hints!!

  • jake1729...WOW. long time no "see"! how's life been treating you? dont remember me do you ;-) i went to visit your site, but its been suspended, did you move it somewhere else? if you like, im not sure how this works, u could add me as a friend...b/c we were, briefly, long ago...if that serves as a hint lolol wink wink

  • Well, I just took a look... nothing has been moved. Looking into what is going with my provider. And my apologies, but I can't place you? Did you have a different screen name?

  • what a powerfull masterpiece

  • 4:07 is perfection...I wish this was officially released.

  • love it!

  • Great vid! Nicely done.

  • Thank you!

  • Amazing album... really good video.

  • no, that's not entirely true. dave was heavy into drinking at the time and was very depressed. he had a large part in the sessions not being completed.

my favorite album to date, though...

  • wut are these Lillywyte sessions? or wut ev

  • In early 2000, DMB recorded some songs with Steve Lillywhite. The record company (RCA) said they were too dark, so they came out with Everyday instead. Due to fan demands, DMB redid Lillywhite and released Busted Stuff.

  • dude aweome vides jake i really appreciate it.. downloaded them all off of your website..

  • lillywhite sessions>busted stuff

  • jake1729, you deserve a medal for making these songs available on your website. thanks a ton!

  • Thanks! You're welcome!

  • I want someone to make me an album of the Lillywhite sessions with the cd cover and everything!

  • You can start by downloading the songs from my website at jake1729[dot]com/dmb :-)

  • Wow, yes it IS darker yet still pretty soothing.

Which is weird since it reeks of a suicidal tragedy. (Dave does or did at one time say he thought often of it.)

    I favorited this. Thanks Jake1729.

  • I'm glad you liked it. It really is a great song.

  • Fucking absolutely amazing!

If anyone has this album let me know, I lost my copy after some asshole broke into my car and jacked all of my CD's. I have the busted stuff version, but it pales in comparison to the OG.

Ultimately it's my fault for not backing up.

    Peace.

  • You can download the remastered Lillywhite at jake1729[dot]com/dmb

  • Chilling, beautiful song, and the video, too...great work!

  • Love Love Love Leroi's sax @ 2:50 +

  • this song is incredable!

  • This statement is absolutely right!

  • as if this song wasn't depressing enough, the images make it more so... but I enjoyed what you did with it

  • This was beautiful, thanks for making my day

  • Thank you. I'm glad you liked it, and that it made your day.

  • Great video. Great Song. Amazing how much different this song is than the one released on Busted Stuff.

  • WOW! Thanks Jake, what a great post!!! Love your LWS stuff...

  • Thank you very much... I really appreciate it.

  • keep it up jake.... how bout that fuzzy wuzzy rip Roi

  • awesome. maybe you can put up the bartender from lillywhite? by far the best bartender

  • Yeah, it's really good. I'll work on it this winter... probably be up in January sometime.

  • way better than busted stuff, better message to live life your own way

  • This is much better than the song released on the album.

What a message! Dark but absolutely beautiful.

    Is it available in mP3?

  • very nice job on the image choice...

    good job

  • Thank you!

  • nice job on the visuals my friend. LWS is so emotional, and so dark

  • Thank you! Just out my Monkey Man too... that's even darker.

  • I like both versions...that beat is great though! "oh I know I'm a dreamer.."

  • Yes, I agree. Such a great song.
