I'd say his playing was rather nice, a bit off at times, but still rather nice. It's the background orchestra I didn't like much. They aren't playing anywhere near as loudly as they could be for my tastes you can barely even hear them and the drumming seems to skip...

I don't like it that much because the electric violin is too powerful for the orchestra.

I can't even hear the orchestra playing, it would be much better if he play it in an acoustic violin so it can fit with the background with the others, Mainly the electric violin is used for a solo with a backing track or in a rock concert where everybody else in a the same type (electric type).

Good playing though, well done!!

You may not have realised, but a long bow, in some instances, can be pretty hard to control due to the extra control you need in the right elbow. So, violinists try out different lengths of bows beore they settle for one they are comfortable with in terms of length, material and weight.

@Akersar Hey buddy, it's standard practice to tune your instruments before a performance. But most of the time, when you fully tune your instrument, the room you do it in is not the same as the stage you're performing on. This changes the acoustics of the environment DRAMATICALLY, and if your high school concert is on a schedule like all of mine were, you DON'T have a lot of time on stage to fine tune your instruments to compensate. Also, Murphy's Law, shit happens. This guy still kicked ass.

@EliteHunter02 Actually, from my past experiences, the acoustics of the environment does not dramatically detune the frequency of the sound emitted by the violin like in the video. In addition, if what you say holds true, then there is also the proportionality in the intervals between each string (fifths) which were not tuned. If the acoustics do detune the violin, it does so in a way so that the sound decreases proportionally. But of course, this guy did still "kicked ass" as you word it ^^.

@Akersar I'm drawing my experiences with tuning from wind instruments (I'm a clarinet player), but temperature, humidity, etc. all have SOME effect on an instrument's tuning. I guess it makes sense that a violin isn't affected as dramatically as a wind instrument, but I would like to assume that the guy is an extremely competent violinist, and that any tuning issues might be due to the intensity of this song's tempo, runs, etc.
