Also poor people will still have an enormous selection of used vehicles to purchase because there was as enormous percentage of people with $1K - $4K cars that did not qualify and their cars will still be on the open market. Also many young people with marginal credit were able to use this rebate as a down payment on a loan that they typically would not get approved for. In return, these people are in cleaner running, more reliable cars and building their credit worthiness for the future
I am a fan of safe arms and steves comments but I have to say that the clunkers program was not a complete failure. I've worked in sales in the auto industry and a lot of theis info was biased. Some of the top ten cars bought in return for their clunkers were Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra and Ford Focus. In a matter of 30 days my entire inventory of 4 cyl cars as wells as my neighboring competitors(toyota & honda) were sold out. The maximum rebate was $4500 not $6000.
Free markets work. Government central planning doesn't. History has shown this time and time again.
We're going to be entering an era of hyperinflation, and the crashing economy will result in massive unemployment. Farming will be a good job, and that's about it.
The government only has what they steal from us, through numerous taxes and the hidden tax of inflation, and the government takes a big chunk when redistributing wealth.
Prime example of just how the welfare state works. Inflation is a bitch for the poor people, which is a greater % of American people each and every day. And then that one day the uninformed poor will gladly accept the new currency (w/e it will be) and denounce capitalism. Only a fool or a person who wants to kill the currency would keep Bernanke as fed chairman among others.
and more than that . . .all tehy did was sell a bunch of foreign cars. talk with your local dealer who sells a GM, Ford or Chevy and see how well it really did for them vs Toyota, Hyundai and Honda.
it's amazing how my 1985 buick regal DID NOT qualify for this (by a mere 30-something cubic inches for the engine LOL). Lost out on a new car and then the Regal finally kicked the bucket and now I'm car-less.
I was tempted to turn in my truck for the $4,000 dollars. But then I'd get the queezy feeling that the government actually did something for me. So I decided to keep my truck. Plus how many people are in a financial position to buy a new vehicle that do this anyway?
From the moment I heard about the C4C program I knew it was going to be a bust. I kept my "clunker" a reliable 96 Honda Civic that gets at least 30 miles a gallon...oh yeah, it's been paid off for years!
A lot of the cars ended up in salvage yards to be parted out. BUT before they left the dealership the engines were destroyed (the most valuable part of the car). So the salvage yards ended up with so many vehicles that cost more to dismantle than they were worth and lots of them got crushed.
Im surprised you weren't going to do a healtchare video on the night that Pelosi is grinning ear to ear in her orange jumpsuit in celebration of passing it. LOL
some dealers may not be paid for the turn in.they were supposed to follow the guideline outlined by the rebate agreement.this was to boost the 3rd quarter gdp.remember the recession is over.we need to proove it.especially to the chineese, who r becoming nervous.
I'm of the opinion that it doesn't matter. Now that the health bill has passed the house, it's only a matter of time before it goes through the senate and dictator's desk.
yea we need to get them out of office and we need to start doing it yesterday!! as fa as the cash for clunkers, the top five vehicles to buy with that were foreign made cars.
This is just one more example of the Austiran School's main idea: The economy is just too big and too complex to be "managed" by a small group of intellectuals. Tinkering with a system so complex just results in unintended consequences, even for rulers with clear and good motives, and Obama's in the pocket of the bankers. The government just needs to get out of our way!
the f150 and chevy/gmc 1500 has got 15-17mpg for many many many years now. Heck I had a 1970 with a 302 that got 19mpg, my 65 nova with a 283 gets 22freeway and 16 city. more and more BS shoveled by the g o v
1 to 3 mpg (if any) better gas mileage...No folks, your Govt isn't trying to kill what is left of your american economy...go back to sleep, everything will be okay. Govt loves you.
I think if we followed the constitution we would be a lot better off, most of the things the fed is trying to do today is completely out of their rights to do.
Why do we even have state government, I hope people wake up soon.
Where is it written anywhere that they can take my money and give it to some dude to buy a new car of all things?
I say we round up all those engines the federal goverment required to be crushed and melted to be piled up on the national lawn in huge pile and welded together for a monument to the Sheeple in this country!
I couldn't have said it any better...... Can't wait for the next election.....anybody else will be better, well almost anybody...... Keep the vids crankin.....all good stuff. Like when you get into bible topics!!!!
It is too bad I think we are already doomed as a country 1.5 more years for some of congress and 3 more for obama. Will we survive? I hope so but it don't look like it since the house passed the pelosi-care bill. Hopefully Senate will stop it.
hey i just found your channel. great vid you nailed it. i can't figure it out steve - we were given a blueprint for success by our founding fathers and we just won't follow it.
* 690,114 cars were purchased under the program; two-thirds of those bought by consumers were passenger cars * The average rebate was $4,170.18, for a total of $2.878 billion. The rest of the $3 billion budget will cover administrative expenses. * The average new car bought with the rebates got 9.2 mpg more than the average clunker traded in, for an annual average fuel savings per driver of 277 gallons of fuel or about $720.
well not sure where you got your facts from would i like to read them. but a straight 6 engine such as a the ford 300 or the Chevy 292 had lower maintenance and better reliability then anything today.
in imports the VW 1.9 diesel could and ran 500k miles before needing a rebuild the VW got close to 39MPG if not more. todays cars a designed to last 5 years to force people to get a new cars and trucks. parts cost more and you need to go to a certified mechanic to get the work done. the older vehicles if you had basic grasp of mechanics
you could repair it yourself at a lower cost. parts then were made to be rebuilt not thrown away. plus any old car or truck was east to re-tune to get better MPG. todays unless you have the program and the right computer it wont happen.
I agree Obama is doing too much, but if he didn't do ANYTHING this country would be more fucked up, the problem is the dollar, and the war left the US out a trillion dollars, for what? Obama is trying to clean up the mess left behind from dumbasses.

Many Americans may consider this Cash for Clunkers program a failure however your elected officials consider this program a screaming success
Why is that you may ask ?
Because government officials were most likely lining their pockets with millions of dollars
So , Now you are able to realize why this program may be referred to as being so brilliant & successful by your elected leaders

Well to go along with cash for clunkers,
we now have forced health care. cost 1.2 trillion. Forced health care means mandatory vaccinations. They don't care what you think or say anymore.
I feel it's only a matter of a short time before this country explodes and revolts.

Est. weight of engines alone(207034200 LBS) * (.16/LB ) = ( $33125472)
Est. weight of WHOLE VEHICLE(3800LBS) * (690,114 CARS) = (2622433200 LBS) * (.16/LB) = ($419589312)
