  • my dr is a bit concerned I could develope diabetes in the future.. er i mean .. umm.. insulin resistance and so she says cut out or really cut down sweets, carbs, startches.. etc. .so that's why i was asking. Does his little sis ever get jealous of all the attention he gets for diabetes? I had many health problems as a baby/young child and I think my bro may have. not sure.i still have to many health probs for my age.. anyhow tc.:D God bless!

  • @blacksheepgirl Insulin resistance is different that type 1 diabetes. Caleb's body is producing no insulin at all. Managing that is different than when your body produces it, but doesn't use it efficiently.

No. We've been able to make it a pretty routine part of our lives. His brother and sister get plenty of their own attention and understand Caleb's needs are a little different.

  • just a question... how can he have so much carbs and sugar without being afraid of really high or low blood sugar? Just curios.:) Thanks

  • @blacksheepgirl We manage Caleb's insulin dosing to match. We're normally able to keep him in range. Over time we've learn about how foods affect his blood sugar and do our best to match the timing and dosing of insulin appropriately. We get it right much more than not.

  • Does he go to sweeny?

  • @GoblinBigears He doesn't. The local camp here is Camp Joslin. This year, however, we went to Friends for Life in Florida as a family so he didn't go to D camp. We went last year though.

  • Caleb, they say that most sugary liquids can bring your blood sugar up. I asked someone a question regarding the lancet you put on your finger to draw blood.

  • Dear Caleb,

    Thanks for a cool video.

    Kelly XXXXXXXXX

  • @lifesaver173 Thank you Kelly!

  • @lsisto1 You're welcome, Caleb.

  • Hi I'm a diabetic also I'm in middle school an I have the omni pod to an I was just researching omni pods cuz I was bored an iv been really scared to put it on my stomach or back an so watching this an seeing that a 4 year old can do it has pretty much motevated me lol thx -- no longer scared:)

  • That is so awesome! Thanks for the message! Are you wearing it on your arm? Caleb is probably as nervous about using his arm and leg as you may be (or were) about doing the back and belly!

  • I wish the omniPOD would go global.

  • Hi!

My comment was too long, so I am back. Hang in there Caleb. I have had Type 1 since I was 9 years old. Over 40 years ago. You are having a great start. I know a cure is soon here.

    Leah

  • Hi!

I have had Type 1 Diabetes for over 40 years I am going back to college to be an Occupational Therapist. I am a Dog Trainerr, Graphic Artist, and a Preschool Teacher.

I keep watching Caleb's Videos. I am thankful he has the Omnipod.. I would like to get the Pod as well, but my health insurance is $400/month. I am not sure I can afford it at this time until I get more hours at work. Do you think the cost will come down?

Well I have got to go.

    God Bless You!

    Leah

  • i like caleb... hes so cool! =)

  • is the omnipod available in other country ? And did Caleb drink and eat too much sugar or is the diabetes from other family members ?

  • I'm pretty sure it is only available in the US. The cause of type 1 diabetes is unknown. What is known, however, is that it has nothing to do with what you ate before diagnosis and is not necessarily hereditary. There is no one in Caleb's family with it. It is an autoimmune disease where healthy insulin producing cells are erroneously killed off by the body's immune system. Thanks for your post and subscription. Any other ?s, let me know!

  • but i live out of the US .

  • Yes, I understand. I do not think it would be available to you then. You could contact Insulet Corp to find out more information regarding their plans to go global.

  • @lsisto1 HI, I thought there was diabetes type 1 2 and then immune 1.5 That's what I read. i aparetenly have lupus... thyroid. Hope I do'nt get diabetes.:o ty

  • That is awesome that he met Nick. Did Caleb tell him he was a diabetic?

    I've type 1 since I was 5, and I'm 19 now. I love watching your videos.

And I'll be getting the Omnipod soon. I'm so excited!

  • There is a cure its just not available in the US yet. Im living proof. For more info. call me @ 760 567 7476. God bless your courage Caleb.

  • wow he takes such good care of himself.

i have been diabetic since December 07. and i do alot of thing's that i shouldn't. im hoping that my insurance company will see that a pod will help me soo much. cuz the reason i do so bad is because i dont like doing shots, and i really thing that a pod will help me so much. i dont know what i will do if they say i cant have something that will make my life easier. im only a kid. and i want to live my life without worry.

  • hi caleb,

your cousins in virginia are very proud of you--and we loved your video!

xoxoxo tom, anne, matt, melissa and marla

  • Very good Caleb, looks like Diabetes picked the wrong person to try to control. I see you are a big Jonas fan; but this video reminds me of "You're Not the Boss". And that Omnipod: very cool tool. A big thumbs-up from from Texas.

  • Caleb, you are such an inspiration. I am so proud of how well you take care of yourself. Keep up the great work and good luck always. You rock!

  • wishing you the very best. you are a beautiful boy.

    Martha Weinstein Alpert

  • Caleb: You are an amazing boy and we wish you lots of good luck. The video reflects a beautiful child both inside and out. We know your grandpa Eddie since he was your age...but, you are much cuter. Carrol & Jesse Zazik

  • just cus you dont have a pump doesnt mean you cant do all those things.

  • You're absolutely right! There are many people living with diabetes effectively, maintaining good control, doing everything they want, without the use of an insulin pump. However, Caleb's injection therapy plan dictated a strict meal plan, requiring him to eat the same amounts at the same times every day. It was very hard for us to keep up with. For us, pumping truly did provide Caleb great freedom. It's a very personal decision. This just happens to be what works for us! Best wishes!

  • Hey Caleb....Great video buddy, very inspiring. My cousin also used the OmniPod and I am glad to see that it is also helping you! Keep it real buddy, and I hope you win...Tim Meighan
