@reddnec thanks dude. this is REALLY old. i have some recent footage ill throw up if im not forced to take a long vacation this week....if ya know what i mean
I don't really think the song matches the issue here. The building does not make the area a "ghetto" nor did the ghetto shut down the building. The people of an area make an area what it is.
The building was shut down years ago and has fallen into disrepair and neglect mainly due to outsourcing...America's jobs are dying because it's corporations do not respect us. They would rather underpay someone in a 3rd world country than pay Americans fairly.
@nova31707 have you BEEN to that neighborhood? weve been shot at, theres fires constantly, drug dealing, car stealing, u name it, weve seen it there. it IS a ghetto!
@bagaauwk I agree...but it's not because of the building itself. Actually, when the building served as a factory, it helped make the area a place of productivity. When there's nowhere to work, people do what they got to do, deal drugs, steal cars, etc. That's all. Nice video.
@nova31707 i agree with you, but never said the area was a ghetto because of the plant. the plant has been mostly abandoned for over 50 years, however, theres still 2 businesses running in there believe it or not
@bwild61 if only if only... a merger/ collaboration of sorts/ or a co-op could have been reached between Studebaker, Packard, Kaiser, Nash, and Hudson... could you imagine the powerhouse that would have been... overnight they each would have gone from a fly on the shoulder or GM or Ford, to a fire breathing MegaRanger like nightmare...
Union and Corporate greed killed U.S. auto manufacturing. Union rules about labor loans and job categories. Corporate greed in bonuses and not reinvesting profits. It is a lose lose situation.
its a sad shame our country is so wastful with its resources. i understand thats large building requiring ALOT of maintence and youre always gonna hve fuck head like these dying to bust out a window but still it just seems like there is something that could be done abut it even though i know thats not realistic
man, this ain't shit. i wish i had a video camera. me and my boy whos uncle owned this plant went through here with a 12 guage shootin shit up. it was great...
@August171964 What is the problem? In the UK in the new wave urbex smash genre, we bust up shit buildings like this to help the demolition which is coming anyway.
it is not abondened my friends dad owns the building city of detroit tried to demo building did not no he owened it he very rich he pays taxes on building not abondened dont let him catch you in there.
I Miss the Packard!! Too bad they`re not around anymore, they would really give HONDA and TOYOTA a run for they`re money!! Shitty GM and FORD were an embarrasment to America up until about 3 years ago!! GOOD JOB AMERICA!!!
Packard made cars before WW2, then stopped to build their famous engines for the war effort. GM and Ford kept making cars and thus had an advantage when the war was over and Packard never caught up. The music really fits the mood, good job!
when the other guards left, people started parking on the property, and when the new guards got there, they started breaking people's car windows and slashing their tires.
Thanks guys, it's sad.

The sheer scale of the complex, it's mind boggling. And to think it's all been useless for half a century!
edgar8459 3 years ago
there have been a handful of businesses in the complex pretty much the whole time.
in fact, there still are.

What guards? The main-gate guard was fired/laid off some time ago, and I haven't encountered any new ones.
rdekema 4 years ago
theres guards at the end closest to the freeway.
when the other guards left, people started parking on the property, and when the new guards got there, they started breaking people's car windows and slashing their tires.
im totally serious, be careful there

You can go look at just about whatever you want. There are very few businesses left (perhaps one or two), and there really isn't anybody to stop you.

um, be VERY careful at the packard, the guards and neighbors are shooting at people now.
i was shot at 4 times friday night. im not joking
