$cientologists get tax exemption because they spent 15 years suing the IRS and even the agents on their case and harassed their families and followed their kids to and from school and setup a fake news agency in DC to gather info on them and a few agents even died mysteriously. Then Co$ president went into talk to the head of the IRS without a meeting sceduled and after he came out the IRS settled in their lawsuit giving Co$ tax exemption BEYOND that of any religion or anyone for that matter.

Prominent 501(c)(3) organizations include: * American Red Cross * Goodwill Industries * Habitat for Humanity * Salvation Army * United Way * Wikimedia Foundation
Charity Navigator offers information on more than 5,000 501(c)(3) public charities and private foundations.
Even some government and/or religious organizations can obtain 501(c)3 status, for example, the University of Tennessee's Christian Student Fellowship and Scientology.
Volunteer Ministers is a recruiting arm of the Church. Everything the Church does leads to cash on the barrelhead. It's true that they get their parishioners to do good deeds for free, but it still leads to paying for courses, auditing, etc. Ever been invited to watch a presentation for a timeshare, amway, etc, and get a free gift? Free isn't what you'll end up if you accept the VM's help. Not their fault just how the system works. They are slaving for the COS for free and don't even see it.
Until COS services are offered with no suggested donation rate, to anyone interested. I will not consider your organization a charity, until your church espouses an ethics policy based on divine principles instead of statistics or pts/sp handle or disconnect policy, I will not consider your business a church. Oh and worshiping a deity or deities might be a good idea too, since that is an essential ingreedient for most legitimate religions.
Remember: The IRL raids are effective & fun by keeping Co$ off balance, but the larger mission is to remove Co$'s tax exemption status. Write, email, call, or otherwise communicate to all your Reps on City, County, State, & Federal levels describing why this business should not have tax exemption status as a church. The pressure of numbers work in a democracy. We all need to do this on a monthly basis to keep up the pressure. Contact info in the phonebook & on the net. This will cripple Co$
Good point! But don't think that you do not pay into any of these other organizations. Take Germany - 10% tithes must be paid to one of the two acceptable government regulated religions from you annual income - mandatory. And tithing is not unheard of in our global community. Many of these programs rely on the taxes you pay for funding. But yes, the amounts organizations like the church of scientology international ask are staggering. And stupid. It guarantees their demise.
Scientology is a scam

The purpose of tax exempt is not to save money, but to hide where the money come and go. Same with Vatican.
The question is what is a purpose of atheism (non-belief) if religion is a business?
