  • I don't like this version. I love MIdge but Fade To Grey was done right the first time. It was beautiful. It was perfect. This doesn't even come close.

  • No,I still like the idea of pissing all over visage.Steve Strange'd probably pay for the service. In fact he could gargle it with my piss.

  • Fade to Grey started life as a tune originally called "Toot City", which was a project that Billy Currie and Chris Payne were fiddling about with whilst playing in Gary Numan's backing band.

  • Midge, you Rock this planet.

  • not as good as the visage version, sounds better with the synths, which make it feel more icy. big up midge though

  • 'Pisses Over Visage',title of their 'best of' coming out soon?

  • horrible rendition though he wrote the lyrics

    i dont like this

  • pisses over visage

  • Volume is shit!

  • Cool! Yamaha AN1x on stage!

  • Everyone who cares knows that Midge was the talent behind Visage. And what a talent...

  • Midge has a great voice but this song is SOOO much better with synths. This version would have never made the charts.

  • @MidnightinSavannah one wonders why it ever made the charts in the first place... those lyrics sound like they were written in ten minutes on a heroin bender. they make absolutely no sense, tell no story, there is absolutely nothing to be gained from hearing the song... it makes no sense.

someone should come up with other lyrics for it, maybe it'd be good then.

  • @hcvang i guess you are very young? or you're not old enough to remember the song in the charts? Visage was a experimental band thrown together with Steve Strange on vocals. They had a couple of hits but this was the first and only hit as far as I am concerned. The band was an amalgamation of Ultravox and Magazine; two awesome bands on completely different musical paths and yes Midge played on the record

  • @TalkToTheBody I didnt put Ure's playing on the record into question. I know he composed the music for Visage. I know he wrote the lyrics - even if Strange claims to have been the creative who did that, whenever he's given a little bit of attention.

Experimental - sure... does that mean you have to write lyrics that mean absolutely nothing?

  • @hcvang even longer ago than visage - lyrics were invented to keep people interested in the music.

Personally I prefer "songs" without them.

  • @cullyvan "Songs" without lyrics are not songs at all, friend.

Rather, you are talking about a composition, a melody, a tune. Songs are written and sung - Melodies are composed.

  • @hcvang yes, i know. But thanks for that.

  • And you can understand the words! Yay!

  • Fantastic voice indeed!

  • he s got a surprisingly good voice.. mr midge

  • I like how they ripped off the Kraftwerk Neonlicht

  • nice to see the dimple even without the hair. love you lots midge.

  • großartige version..midge ure ist ein genialer gitarist

  • Wonderful rendition. I bet Steve gets pretty sad when he sees this clip.

  • F.ckn WMG..just put the whole video down then ..like 50% on tube without sound is fun 2 watch

  • I now the original and I waited one summer month to see this version live and I loved it, whatever you want to say about missing sinths and so, he is gooooood :). The only thing I miss a bit are Perry and Lorraine, but I am not sure if I really like to see them nowadays. Better to remember them young and beauty :)

  • Midge + Bob = 5 hits?

  • See you so soon, Midge :)))

  • Every collaboration which assisted an artist, by the artist is be Artistic design, whether be image, by inspiration, or to press a time of new material. Many artists have had periods such as this, and at one point or another sought image consultants and embellishments.

Flamboyants will always be, and are necessary to lift the spirits & to revive one's orginal focus, be that from the fashion industry or by way of the local Beauty or hair design shop.

  • WHERE would we be for this sort of Revival of Spirit in key times, and you pay these for *That service.

    It is a Spriritual matter.

  • vinegar baws lol

  • soundsgood with extra singer

  • who cares... 12341343234 x better than how Steve Strange performed it in 2005

  • Without synths???

    I hate that

  • you'll find more synths on the left channel.....if you find the left channel ;)

  • JSto6: That was so funny... I thought my left speaker was broken. LMHO.

  • As much as I love the original, this just proves Midge Ure has more talent and personality in one of his turds, than Steve Strange had during his entire career.

  • Yes but Steve was prettier

  • just saw midge at 80 s festival on sunday he played a great set with this in it, quality all the way through got everyone going , after the ultravox gigs earlier i have come to the conclusion he isGOD

  • love the shirt Midge is wearing! who sells that?

  • É sempre bom ouvir e relembrar esta boa musica e única

  • Now that's how you take a song with a deep, layered texure with a dark new wave sound and turn it into a lame duck FM rock track. Nickelback are probably taking notes.

  • i hands down prefer this great song midge ure singing it beside te point hes the man who wrote it!

  • Spitzenklasse, besser als das Original. Hier singt der der Songwriter persönlich.

  • we fade to grey......

  • Big thumbs up to Midge for a cracking updated version. It's the sign of a good song when it's not pinned down to its original production or the fashions it was tied to in the first place.

This could have been a recent song in this form and some great guitar playing - and much better singing than the Steve Strange vocal - make this a great version & even an improvement in many ways. Has more of a sensual groove than the original, for example. Great tone from the Les Paul & the Valvetronix.

  • It's very interesting to see Midge's own version.

It's great, but he doesn't have any of the sensitivities that made Fade to Grey a classic... the version of a straight rock man almost along the lines of Pink Floyd, not a gay synth popper -

How can you nail the song down with such an oppressive guitar line is what I'm wondering too.

  • Nope it's not Chris Slade, it Russell Field. However it does look really like Chris.

  • one alone man....me....

  • another great song....

  • I know he helped write this, but it's so very wrong hearing him sing it. It doesn't work for me in this horrible bluesy rock style. It's like he hates the song! Good grief, start the thumbs down already why don't ya, lol!

  • DER AMBOSS

  • my daughter works at HOT TOPIC and she gets a 40% discount!!

  • I love you Midge and I am not even gay :D

  • amazing performance

  • Isn't that Chris Slade (formerly AC/DC) on drums?

  • It sure looks like him, doesn't it? Wouldn't surprise me, since Chris Slade also played with Midge Ure's arch-enemy, Gary Numan.

  • Yo tambien opino que pierde fuerza , pero es una excusa para ver al padre de la criatura años despues . Midge Ure nunca nos deja indiferentes , espero que lo podamos escuchar muchos años mas .

  • Amazing!!! I saw Midge live in the summer,he is still fab, this was one of the best songs, he can rock it big time, can't wait to see you 2009 Midge!!! I understand 1 hour slot is in order...I should bloody think so too, a legend like you, see you there people...RETROFEST MOTHERWELL, STRATHCLYDE COUNTRY PARK!!!

  • Esta canción necesita de la fuerza que imprimen los sintetizadores; pierde mucho en esta versión light

  • Para mi esta bien, lo qe yo creo que falta son las chicas...

  • excellent version of this song midge is a musical god. cant wait to see ultravox in sheffield next year roll on 2009.

  • I love Midge's shirt in this; where can I find it? does anyone know the brand or where I can find one similar?

  • yeah, you can find those kinds of shirts at Hot Topic, which must have a website, if there isnt one in your local mall. it's that hot rod/rockabilly style, the black shirt with a shiny or loud pattern down one side

  • only midge can pull off a rock version of this song.

  • @layzer80 well he was involved in the original recording

  • Where does this version come from? Great! I agree with patermtube, it is a rather simple song in terms of chord sequence but, wow, it is so evocative ...

  • Fantastic version! No la conocía. Midge Ure and Peter murphy my favorites singers!!!!

  • Amazing! Each version of "FtG" thrills!

  • BRILL MIDGE

  • FAde to grey - not Midge

  • Midge Ure contributed to the writing of this song.

  • I know, but I meant Midge will never fade to grey he will always be a brilliant shining star and genius musician. Lol :)

  • midge was more or less the driving force behind visage. it was all an experimental exercise. he produced there first 2 albums

  • F a n t a s t i c !!!

  • visage ... strange ..... classic

  • rock on midge !!!

  • i love Midge Ure !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic!

  • Both Midge and John foxx continue to have great fun with music and i love it ...

  • I like both the synth version and this one. Midge has a great voice and man can he play guitar. :D

  • Midge can sing about yesterday's garbage and it would still sound awesome! Considering this song isn't a "Midge" song, he does it very well, indeed. It's an opportunity to experience his guitar skills.....

  • Well he did write the lyricks ... and did a lot of keyprogramming on bothe VISAGE albums ;-)

  • And taught Steve Strange how to sing. Strange's voice is shot all to hell now, while Midge still sounds great.

  • Not forgetting that poor Steve has had drug addiction problems...

    HOPE YOU GET BETTER STEVE!!!!

    Love ultravox, Love Visage!

  • @2dogzmom well, drugs fuck everything to hell... i speak from experience. dont start, it's not worth it... i'd rather have gotten drunk every weekend as a youngster than fucked up.

  • @2dogzmom Midge's life didn't go down the tubes with heroin addiction either.

  • @2dogzmom Strange never really had a voice, or any talent either for that matter

  • @stewballs7 Steve Strange was part of the new roantic "in crowd", a fashionable icon if you like

  • @2dogzmom

Steve Strange is the Gratest. Midge Ure can`t sing this song. It`s terrible !!!!Puh...

    This is Steve`s Song !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • quite like it

  • disappointing at best, he may have written the original, but it is better in its original form by Visage

  • I agree totally... Oh my god, I hate this version with a passion... Where are the synths and dance beat?

  • just watch the other Fade to Grey (live 2002)! It's sounds really better !!
