Great video/tutorial!! A great cheap way to make a standup target, unless as you are driving home from Lowes, the long piece of PVC pipe taps your windshield and shatters an area about the size of my open palm... So my $17 pvc target stand turns out to be about a $217 target stand. Shit happens :/... But now I can just shoot my frustrations away at my new target :D
Thats cheaper than what I thought a target would cost. I could put sand down the legs to hold it in place when shooting it with a .9mm Just a suggestion. That was neat and thanks for showing us how to make them...
Just made mine to go shooting tomorrow but the weatherman says that winds will be gusting 20 to 30 MPH. So I'm gonna drill some holes in the pipes so that I can anchor the targets down with rods. The modularity is cool. I made some similar to these awhile back but I used PVC for the uprights and let me tell ya, wood takes bullets much better than PVC. One hit on the PVC and they shattered like glass. Three targets in a bag is pretty heavy though. I think these are some the best stands out there
Just joined a shooting club that said i have to provide my own targets and target stand, holy crap this really made my day because I had no idea where I would get one. Awesome! Thanks!
Great stand!!! Just built one today. Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it since it's been a few days since i got these "plans". Anyway, one tip: Have the hardware store you get the PVC pipe from cut the 8 15' lengths for you. I did it this way and had this build done in less than 5 minutes after returning from the store!
And to think I was going to go through the trouble to weld a steel stand of almost the same design together...thanks for the video man....really thanks for saving me half my weekend!
@ZombieTactics Thanks, ZT. It's really just a common-sense, on-the-cheap version of stuff that's already out there, but I'm glad you like it. Sandbags would definitely help (as you'll see in some of the upcoming vids with these), or you could just dig up a few big rocks to weigh them down - as SnowLobo95 and I did.
@TheLateBoyScout All you have to do is buy two end caps for the bottom of the stand and put some sand in the buttom with the end caps holding the sand in to prevent the wind from blowing it over. sand is free and the end caps dont cost that much.
@hackingyourcomputer Excellent Addition!! But eventually, with more spirited shooting fun, :), Especially when no ones looking.. LOL. you will hit the bottom/base as well... Anyway all one has to do is just carry along a filled replace as well as a couple non filled spares would work. HELL!!. (lightbulb) , Still the non-filled spares would get you through the rest of your shooting. Great Idea!!
Great video, this and the IPSC target video are both really good, I love how you make this sort of thing for so cheap, it makes it very accessible to ordinary people and gives them a place to start from.
LBS, you do great very professional videos. Great targets, I just wish I had a place like you have to set up run & guns. I am looking forward to your review of your new Glock 34.
THanks man, this is rad. I was fixin to make some out of all lumber and I would have had a lot more work to do drilling the joints for hardware so that I can break down for transport. I would also have been turning wing nuts to assemble the stands at the range instead of just pushing pieces together.
@Cr0cket20 Hey man, even these things aren't wind-proof. They did a great job most of the day, but we had to pile rocks on the legs when it really started howling.
Awesome vid!! I felt like i just watched a short clip of home improvement TV show or somethin. You should make this part of a "Range Improvement" Series!!
LBS, great vid - moves me closer to doing this for myself; our local range made these, and they're great, except when I try to move them. As they're not glued together, they tend to fall apart on me when carrying them to a new position. This adds complexity and cost, but I'd thought about using threaded connectors for at least the vertical joints. Could also shoot short screws into the joints, short enough that they don't snag the wooden uprights . . .
@drzmanproject I could see that helping if they don't stay together just with friction. Maybe the fittings they're using don't taper enough on the inside to create that friction? I don't know. Different types of piping works differently I suppose. I'd recommend testing the fittings, in the store, to see how well they hold by friction before buying your materials.
@drzmanproject Also, whatever brand/type these fittings are, they work marvelously! That, or we put them together with a little too much friction, 'cause it took some work to break them back down again ;).
Lovin the DIY videos you have been posting. Kinda like midways videos but you dont have to be a gunsmith and these videos are usefull for most shooters. keep em up mate.
HOME DEPOT!?!?! lol, my portable target stand was all pvc, found out that isn't always the best method, as I have gone thru quite a bit of pipe now. Completely agree with not glueing the pieces together, as it is also extremely helpful in transport, just get a good size duffle bag and carry all the pvc parts in it. Nice vid, bud!
@Vhammer2010 Yeah... as you probably noticed, the cheapest parts (1x2 pine rods at $1 each) go where the bullets fly. The more expensive stuff is all in the base, and that's low enough that it's pretty safe.
After this video I stop thinking you are copy nutnfancy. He is "buying" stuff allready done and hi is "testing". You are making your own. Good video. First thumb up it's from me.
Made mine tonight for $13.50 each. Can't wait to try them out this weekend. Thanks for the video!

If you lived in the communist state of MA, you'd be limited to 10 round mags but your windshield replacement would have been free. LOL
