Yep it's geared up through a couple of belt drives. It will motor on quite well if you have the bottle to go out deep enough and will steer with the front wheels.
Yep. I worked there a couple of years ago and had the misfortune of having to rebuild this piece of history. Yes it really floats but when it's ballasted up it sit even lower than shown in this footage. We took it out to the out to the end of the emergency sewage pipe at low tide a couple of times and it plods along quite well and steers with the front wheels. roger was coming in in the duck too so it was quite an odd site seeing the two of them coming out of the sea together.
