Seeing this just made me break down. I got diagnosed w/Type I Feb 2008 at age 19. Worst day of my life, it isn't easy to be told your life is going to be shorter & full of suffering. It ruined my schooling, job & life disposition. Everyday is a struggle, some easier than others... people tell me I am strong & will adjust to this new "life style." No it isn't a "life style"! Like I would choose to live like this! I constantly wish I wasn't diabetic... but like this brave little girl. I am.
I have been diabetic for 16 years because I want. If I were brave enough to commit suicide, I would not be diabetic anymore; since I am a weak guy, I am still diabetic. Actually I am a masochist, I have hurt my body with a needle 8 times a day, 4 to measure the glucose and 4 to inject insulin. If I wanted to stop suffering, just stabbing my chest once would be enough.
so 33nick44 do you even have a slightest clue about diabetes? your comment hurt...it really did. diabetes hurts and a pumps definetly will not ever be able to take the emotional pain away. if you dont have diabetes, know about diabetes, or have lived with or with a loved one who suffers from diabetes, do NOT speak about it. ignorance hurts a LOT more than you seem to think...get educated and think before you speak.
Great video...most people don't realize just how many times a day diabetic children need to inflict pain upon themselves. Your video makes it a reality. We won't stop fighting 'til a cure is found. We have been to Capitol Hill & back educating everyone on our way. Education is the key to the cure...too many people are ignorant and others just don't care. Bless you and your family, Arden, we know how you feel.
And how do you think a pump makes their life better, nick? They still have to inflict pain upon their selves everyday...Testing their sugar levels, changing infusion sites, and being connected to an insulin pump 24/7. The pump is not a cure either. Get educated...diabetes hurts and there is NO CURE!
And what about those like myself who can't use the pump? I'm allergic to the tapes & adhesive products which are needed to keep it in place.
I've had diabetes for 23 years & not a single one has been easy. The only thing that changed my life was my diagnosis for a life long hell.
My doc promised me a cure before my 21st birthday. Now, 12 yrs after that deadline, I've lost hope for my generation. I just prey that the cure comes in time to let younger sufferers live their lives to the full.
@Ellybelly03 my daughter is supposedly allergic to all tapes even bandaids but she has a pump and the tape doesnt bother her and u dont have to use tape there are some things tht make the neddle stick thts just a spray
@binarymom I've tried having the little disc attached and held in place with a bandage. I ended up with welts in a very neat circular pattern. My skin is very sensitive. I'm not just allergic to the tapes but soaps, make up, hair products, deodorant. I need natural replacements for all of these things. So not having a pump is just one of a long list of "issues" I deal with. Thank you for your input though. I'm glad your daughter is one of the lucky ones.
i need 3 novorapid(novolog) a day and 1 levemir injection a day but i'm currently using novpen 3 for these which doesn't hurt as much and is quicker than an ordinary syringe. as well as up to 6 blood tests a day
Thank you for this. My daughter has type 1 as well (age 4), and although we try to keep positive for her sake, it's also important to remember that this is NO way to live. I'll never think of "King of Pain" in the same way again ...
Very nice video, but I can't say I trust the diabetes establishment to come up with a cure. Big pharma and advocacy groups seem more intent on perpetuating life-long dependency in diabetics. Google INGAP if you're interested in an example of what I mean.

I completely understand how you feel. I have wished it all to end so many times but I just don't have the courage to follow through.
My psyc tells me I'm committing slow, conscious suicide by mismanaging my diabetes, but I'm just too tired to bother anymore.

I was diagnosed when I was 7 years old.
Now I'm 14...
Dealing with type 1 diabetes can be extremely tough.
It has its ups and downs, but as long as you stay in control you'll be fine. (:
and for the comment below from 33nick44,
Insulin is NOT a cure. Its life support.
hopefully we one day find a cure<3

Lynn,
Your comment was so touching that I quoted it in our latest emailing for the site. My best to you and your daughter! - Scott

Very powerful. My daughter was Dxed in '05, she's now 9.
I don't think I've ever thought about the sheer number of needles we go through. 3/day for the past 2.5 years? Wow.
Thanks for posting this.
Powerful stuff. As we were watching, my daughter kept telling me to quit crying. Sometimes, I just can't, you know?
