This program still seems a little immature. Oda is not quite on the same level as Takahashi and needs to show more maturity on the ice. Off the ice is a different story, I heard Oda is engaged and has a child on the way...
Honestly, when he keeps the quad in his program, he's better than Plushenko. Plushenko puts no feeling into his skating, and has shallow edges, boring choreography. Oda has soft knees, musicality, two things that you can't really learn.
He's got great jumps, good spins, and great footwork. But there's something about his artistry and lack of emotion that fails to grab my attention. When Evan Lyscacek is on, like he was at the 2009 Worlds' he's great. But he's so inconsistent.... Who will win gold at the Olympics? Perhaps Plushenko - he's got history behind him.....
I loved the footwork sequences. Just flying across the ice, so affortless. It looks like the wardrobe malfuction could be a bit distracting (what a Chaplinesque mishap!) , but kudos to Nobu for finishing the program without totally messing it up. :)
This was not better than Lysacek...his choreography is forced...I can't stand this idea of selling an American themed program when the skater doesn't connect to what he's been programmed to do....but the judges are on board with this skater so far this season....we'll see...I wish him the best and hope that he can continue skating well.
Peter Carruthers: "Do you see how powerful it is when you can bring together great music, great skating and great athleticism, and package it into one great free skate?"
Wow...that's a ridiculous assessment. Why can't a Japanese skater sell an American themed program?! Honestly, Oda has one of the best programs of the season and he exudes the perfect personality throughout it. With your logic, Lysacek couldn't possibly skate to 2 Russian compositions this season?! Since when is skating music segregated by nationality?! Most American skaters don't skate American themed programs.
You're taking what I'm saying out of context. The same could be said about any skater trying to "sell" something that doesn't fit their style....stop making this about race or nationality...that's NOT whay I'm saying...you are making it into that. To me...it comes across as disingenious...that's all. An example of an "American themed" skate that was awsome at this competition, for example...was the SP for Zhen and Zao...and I loved it. What I'm saying is in no way ridiculous.
In addition, I dislike BOTH of Lyscacek's programs this year...I think it's a shame he's been given music, choreography and costumes that don't highlight what he's capable of...so again, you just misunderstood me. I respect that in your opinion, Oda did a great job...but that's just your perspective....and you're entitled to it.
Big Congratulations, Nobu !!! another great performance (minus single axel and forgot to add 2toe after 3Flip?) his jumps are so light and silky. his spins are much better than last year. great footwork. I am so pleased that Nobu is getting the PCS he deserves, cough 4cc cough. 8.00 for Interpretation 7.95 for Performance/Execution 7.80 for Choreography 7.95 for Skating Skills I hope coach Morozov would add a few more transitional moves?(besti-squat,lunge, spiral, hydro-blade)
このプログラムすごく好き!織田くんにすごくよくあっていましたね~。なつかしいです。

Nobu has a very special gift. Not sure how many people can feel it (judges?)... but there's more to life than points.

Very cute. The program fits Oda but at the Olympics-those huge point getting jumps will be key. :)

the program is good, but Oda is not so good as Daisuke is. He can't dance and his performance is not so impressive.

Oh this performance is so cute!
From footwork to jumps to spins, he's got it all.

It's interesting that his coaches and himself are not satisfied with his performance yet (not talking about jumps).
His mother=coach wants him to understand Chaplin and Nobunari also think the music still helps him get the points.
That's very a good attitude for improvement. Takahashi has the biggest rival ever.

A Japanese male skater is likely to win the gold medal at the Olympics. Japan has got a wonderful team in ice skating.

what an amazing consistency! He never misses a thing exc. here the 2d triple axel, good thing he's human :) So fast and consistent.
I still don't like this FP, I find it juniorish. He could do better, but of course with Morozov...

Yet no deduction from the technical panel so I guess it's argueable although I see a flutz in slow motion ...

Yes. It's "disagreeable", because nobody agrees with you. =)
