I love Driscoll's sermons and the way he approaches the young generation. However, I still struggle from time to time with contradictions I see in his message. I completely agree with how the message in Avatar is a darkening message to the young generation. But I feel like that about almost every movie. Why have 2 home theatre sets and 3 tivo's? Shouldn't focus be on "renewing our minds from the patterns of this world?" Why encourage young ppl to watch movies when they struggle w discernment?

there's a huge difference in "Mars Church" and "Mars Hill Church". Yes Mars hill in Athens is named after the Roman god but that's not why he named his church Mars Hill. It is so named because Mars Hill is an important site where Paul preached about Jesus. If you're trying to use THAT to hit Pastor Mark then you are really stretching it.

I didn't think this movie was good at all, but for different reasons, and yes I'm Christian. I just thought it was too long and too predictable. James Cameron isn't a believer of any faith but I think there's something to be said about the fact that his films represent an outcry against oppression - literally and culturally - something that God cares about. I think Pastor Driscoll took a very close-minded stance on this film.

Okay, I like Mark Driscoll and I enjoy many of his clips on YT, but I completely disagree with his view of this film. Sure, Avatar caters to a pantheistic worldview but it is a fictional account of fictional characters and fictional creatures. No one in their right mind would watch this film and walk away worshiping Satan or taking this pantheistic worldview seriously. Also, I take offense at his comment regarding what's primitive and what's advanced. The blue characters had a culture....

This guy needs to be locked up. While i realize most Christians aren't like this, aganism has been around MUCH longer than Christianity. Why did Christianity beat it? Stuff like this. The church has demonized Paganism for years. Now I don't know if this man knows his history but Christians have done some pretty demonic stuff themselves. Imagine if someone accused everything Christian in the media of evil. This is nothing more and nothing less than a 2 millennium long game of PROPAGANDA.

Christians don't hate anybody. Mark is saying that the film is satanic because it advocates that one does not need a saviour/Jesus to gain eternal life. So it is demonic in fooling people into believing that you they can save themselves. The whole point is that the isn't anything anyone can do to save themselves. We all need Jesus in order to gain salvation and we are only saved by his grace not our actions. We are all broken and fallen (yes those humans in the film).

So we are to think that being a part of the Earth or be respectful of nature is a satanic thing? If you actually look at the Na'vi, they are just as advanced as the humans, they just have a different connection to the Earth and different views on how to treat it. That is not demonic in any sense.

No, Mark Driscoll loves Jesus. He doesn't love ungodliness (which Jesus does not love) and worldliness (which Jesus doesn't love). Mark is a great example for any teacher who wants to teach the gospel to their church or small group. Has he done crazy things? Yes, but so has every other pastor. Jesus was the only perfect to live a perfect life.
Also, if Mark Driscoll is a child of God, then Jesus is not ashamed of him.
