now here's a stupid question: Can they have say and MTU powered engine at the front and a Valetta (spelling?) pushing at the rear, or do they have to be the same engines? Is there a (comms) link somehow between the engines to control the pull and push etc.?
there's something wierd going on heer in my point on view. I love the xc livery but hate the sound, where i hate the midland mainline livery but i love the sound. strange!
Whats going on with this XC HSTs and no buffet car? FGW were pulling this stunt till people complained, then they put them back again. They said that they were able to generate more torque and provide a faster service without them. If they want to provide a faster service, tell the drivers to go straight to notch 5 and shut off when required.
completely agreed also! I used to travel on XC when Virgin first took over and the HSTs were great - it was really disappointing when the Voyagers came in.
I have found out there will be a buffet on XCs HSTs once they have been re-furbed.
However its not going to be a buffet car as such its going to be a normal coach with a small buffet counter at the end. The refurb coaches will be based on project mallard.
Right after considering the times I don't think you're going to be able to catch one stopping at Tiverton Parkway and Bristol Parkway on a Saturday. There isn't an HST in your direction on Sunday.
I Like the new livery on that XC 125, unfortunatley the ex Midland Mainline carriages and the 125 at the back was scruffy. are they going to get their own carriages?
Thanks. I know FGW have buffets on their refurbished HST's but if XC don't that's cool. I might take a XC from Tiverton Parkway to Bristol Parkway where I can be collected and go to Reading. is it easy to access from the M4?
Ok, Thanks that's prob. a good option for Reading then to be collected as it's about £10 cheaper , plus I get to go on XC. what's the chance of it being one of their 125's?
me and a m8 went to derby station and there we saw a first great western 158, a national express HST and also on one end of the paignton was a cross country HST powercar so all in all we had a gd day out.
Really like that livery. When these have coaches in the same livery, they'll look very smart and much nicer than the Voyager's where it's clear that Arriva was budgeting.
Hehe was wondering when you'd ask! I started a couple of days ago and am reasonably happy with the front but I decided to go and see it in person today to give me some idea of what to put on the sides and the sizes of various logos etc.
I am hopeful that it will be released next week . With a bit of luck I will be out and about tomorrow and get a few more pictures of it if possible. If not a video of the Valenta it is paired with will have to suffice!
As nice as it is to see that 43s will be with us for more years to come, they have lost some of the magic that the valenta scream produced. The new MTU engines sound like several old transit vans.
Great Video!

During the re-engining process it was quite common for a train to have 1 valenta and one MTU.

I think the longer distance XC services should all be HSTs.
walrusthefirst 3 years ago
Agreed - IMO Voyagers are only suitable for routes like Norwich to Liverpool or Cardiff to Portsmouth Harbour.

Yes I think the first set is coming in September with the rest following by December.

wheres the buffet?
tb992 3 years ago
No buffets on XC HSTs.
Hyperen 3 years ago
So you can't get any food on a journey between Scotland and Cornwall. That must be bad, or is there a buffet trolley like SWT?
halfcymruhalfdevon1 3 years ago
Yes when I went on an XC HST they had one trolley that went through standard and another that just hung around first class.

oh, bristol Parkway (where this vid was filmed)
halfcymruhalfdevon1 3 years ago
Bristol Parkway is pretty close to Junction 19 of the M4.

Most of the time it will be a Voyager - there are set times for the 125's - If you can give me which day of the week it is I can try and look it up.

i think the livery should have been not purple but black ir grey like the first idea was

Nice one mate. A very attractive livery, yet another power car now lives on thanks to the MTU program.
