IT"S A SARANGI!!! Not an esraj. And it certainly is one of the most difficult instruments to master.

Actually I believe Rich Doucett plays the esraj, which is like a sarangi mixed with the neck of a sitar and less sympathetic strings. It's supposed to be much easier to play, as the sarangi is one of the most difficult bowed instruments to learn. And the guy in the background is the cover art to "Of Whales and Woe," the Les Claypool album that this tour was supporting. And that is an electric saz. THE SC3 LIVE DVD IS NOW OUT!!!

Sarangi it is... and that weird guitar instrument that Trey is playing is called a Saz... or rather, a saz neck and strings added to a guitar body.
