There's no point ranking them, I've read everything the man wrote and it's all bombproof. My personal favorite story (for adults) is Pig, which is definitely the darkest one of the lot.
The first story I ever read by Ronald Dahl was Charlie & The Chacolate Factorie, followed by Matillda,ect..I remember that day..a pleasent winter day in school..back in 3rd grade..
All good books, but I found "James and The Giant Peach" dragged on so I would put "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" or something else I found more fun to read when I discovered Roald Dahl and started reading chapter books when I was five. My first chapter book ever was "The Witches" so I love it. 3 and 1 are the best, I think. I just reread "The BFG" and I loved it as much as I did when I read it at six years old. I don't know why but I just love Sophie.
Everyone who wants to read a really good and hilariously funny book, go to Amazon and look for Moon Kids by R. C. Hunter! I read it and couldn't put it down! The author even has a youtube account (ask me for more info). Seriously, if you have an inner child, you will LOL! And this book is guaranteed to knock the socks off Roald Dahl's books. (No offense to Roald Dahl, just cos this book made me LOL even more). =D
@AliandOxie The problem with charlie and the chocolate factory for me was that I read it too many times and made myself sick of it. I had a copy of Charlie and the chocolate factory from the moment I could read but I never actaully read The witches until later. Thats why I prefer it. I realise it is probably one of the best!
I read the witches when i was 8, then i saw the movie- they were both fantastic!

I prefer the darker short stories from Roald Dahl. Go read 'Tales of the Unexpected'. Also, as a child I loved Edgar Allan Poe's short stories.
