This is one of my fave games besides Sonic Adventure 2 and Grand Theft Auto 3. I've been playing this since 2005 when I was 8. My record with no cheats whatsoever is 6 hours 27 minutes.
I just finished it with savestates and a guide and it took roughly 4 hours. Ridiculously long considering there's only ten levels. A LOT of backtracking.
I never played this game, but in some version of Zelda II you can perform that same super slide move you do the whole time by pressing left and right simultaniously. Of course that's something not supposed to be done! Is it how you do it in this game too? Because if it is, it's like cheating!
@UoBtExFODA Cool, can you use a control pad or does it have to be the comp keys? I think I played a bit of this when I was a kid but never knew what it was called.
@yoshi109692 Hello. It means that the game was unaltered, but tools were used to help play it perfectly. In this case, the game was played on an emulator at really slow speeds and using savestates to undo mistakes. The point of the video is to find the theoretical fastest possible time the game allows itself to be beat. You can find more of these on the tasvideos website.
after you fought the minotaur with that sword i was like daaammmnnnn he really doesnt wanna save up and go through the mountains! you saved up mad quick in the woods.
Still remember the old good days till playing it at 1989,was so happy to play a game similar to Zelda II and in the present days I've see only cheats/codes/glitches etc...Most of people hurry for anything, like will live only one day and missing lot of the real fun.
Was so exciting with friends around TV,not at the PC alone with emulator and full of guides in internet, that made us friendly and more smarter with our own effort.
your both right and wrong. this is a TAS video which means the point is to finish the game as fast as possible. BUT, you are right when you say that we got smarter from playing 8bit games it has even been proved in science
As you can read in the video description to the right, the glitch is acomplished by simultaneously pressing left+right, and it is not restricted to emulation, although you may have to open your gamepad to be able to press both directions at once, depending on its model.
I was not a big fan of zelda II, but I loved this game. The whole greek mythological atmosphere with one of the best soundtracks EVER in a video game made this one of my favorite games ever. It truly falls into the most overlooked/ most underrated games ever along with blaster master
"I also had a very hard time with it when I was a kid, but the music and the gameplay kept me going on and on. I was also very into Greek gods and stuff during that time."
Seconded ;)
I once, as a kid made it to the final fight but never did I manage to kill him! :( It took me hours to get through Phrygia in order to get the moon thingy from Artemis.. That place must be the hardest area in the game, no?
I also had a very hard time with it when I was a kid, but the music and the gameplay kept me going on and on. I was also very into Greek gods and stuff during that time.
Anyway I tried this game again about 2 years ago, and I made it to the final dungeon. Unfortunately, that was impossible for any human being to defeat. Great game anyway :)
You could improve this time a little by using the glitch which will get you to the barrier in crete by getting hurt by an enemy.. this would cut out having to get the key in Attica..
The key was needed to open the door seen in 5:57. The glitch you mentioned (for the barrier seen in 6:57) isn't useful in this run because you need all 3 hearts to finish the game, and the barrier opens itself when you have 2 hearts. It's also faster to get the other 2 hearts before visiting that last one, so it didn't help. But thanks for ideas, if you have more, please comment.
One of my all-time favorite video games. This game had such great music and it was a good adventure game because you traveled greece and visited palaces of the gods and stuff. Cool game
You know, there is a way to actually get the third heart without getting the first or second by getting knocked backwards through the barrier. Whether that is reasonable with that little health is a different story. Merely having heart 3 should open Tartarus and the end game.
The 'three-headed guardian' is the kerberos and in actual greek mythology, only the hydra had respawning heads. Kerberos's fur was a blanket of poisenous vipers.
This game was the reason why I wanted to learn that excerpt of Toccata & Fugue on piano over 10 years ago. I think I'd still remember how to play it. Gonna try it on midi-keyboard right now...
I thought this was going to be fun to watch, but playing it at warp speed 3 really... REALLY ruins it. I cant see whats going on, and I dont remember it being this way.
It is a great shame that this game wasn't remade for the SNES or even better the Nintendo 64. Possibly the best adventure game I played that had something to do with Ancient Greece. Thank goodness I still own it lol.
Speed only works from left to right. If the speed to the right gets too high, it starts going to the left. So I can't use it on all places from right to left unless I have some wall to push on the right side ;) Thanks for comments!
omg this is a total link 2 ripoff or nintendo ripped them off I don't know. The last guy is a shadow exactly like in link 2. And those knights? Exactly the same!
wow...i never would have beaten this game. i played it when i was younger, like 9 or so, and even with a game genie, it was hard as hell! glad i saw this vid cuz i would never know what it is like to beat it, if not. i got some of the midi's from the game on my cell phone too! they are sweet
I just watched the whole thing and I wanted to ask a question again - did you actually go back each time the enemy you killed in pelopennesus didn't yield an olive? Or is there a way to guarantee an olive every time?
And in the Temple of Hades, if you use the glitch right when you enter you can immediately jump to the platform that leads up to the second level - cutting your time down a bit :)
Hey, this is a TAS (tool-assisted timeattack), so it was made using savestates and slowdown. The objective is to show a hypothetically perfect video, it's not about controlling skills. But that's stated everywhere. Glad you liked it.
About the suggestion, yes I've tried that. I don't remember now why I didn't use it, but I probably couldn't build enough speed from the platform... Or if I could, then the enemy there would do more damage than I could take. Too bad though, it was a good shortcut.
Nevermind! I was wondering why I just couldn't get it to move faster, when I realized that my Nestopia resets the settings every time I shut off my computer using the power button (I play on the train quite often and just as often realize that I've missed the announcement of our stop; and have less than 10 seconds to grab and go!)
Anyway, one of the settings that got reset was allowing the use of up/down and left/simuright ltaneously. lol
I lost alot of sleep over this game. Thank you for completeing it. I needed to see this, however it looks like you skipped some stuff. What about that Giant two Headed Snake? I could never kill it!

Highly under rated game. Battle of Olympus captured the feel of what the game was all about and it had a great soundtrack by K Sawa. I think he did the score for Spelunker? I don't know
This is one of my fave games besides Sonic Adventure 2 and Grand Theft Auto 3. I've been playing this since 2005 when I was 8. My record with no cheats whatsoever is 6 hours 27 minutes.

Highly under rated game. Battle of Olympus captured the feel of what the game was all about and it had a great soundtrack by K Sawa. I think he did the score for Spelunker? I don't know

Very cool, too bad the scrolling screens prevent you from turning this into something like the Zelda 2 TAS.
