  • This is one of my fave games besides Sonic Adventure 2 and Grand Theft Auto 3. I've been playing this since 2005 when I was 8. My record with no cheats whatsoever is 6 hours 27 minutes.

  • so this guy... lets call him link... uses his ocarina... to do shit.

  • see that bird at 0:55? thats motherfucking dachora!!!!

  • 16 people can't moonwalk.

  • LOL why does Dracula music play when you meet Zeus?!

  • thank you for posting this. i enjoyed watching from start to end in a quick 10 minutes.

  • Cocaine was a hit in this time

  • This game engine reminds me of Zelda 2. Similar drawn styles, similar character as well. He looks a lot like Link does in Zelda 2.

  • and the thrilling final battle with... a stone column?

  • I remember beating this game on NES... but I don't remember doing half the stuff this guy did...and I wasted A LOT of time

  • I just finished it with savestates and a guide and it took roughly 4 hours. Ridiculously long considering there's only ten levels. A LOT of backtracking.

  • I never played this game, but in some version of Zelda II you can perform that same super slide move you do the whole time by pressing left and right simultaniously. Of course that's something not supposed to be done! Is it how you do it in this game too? Because if it is, it's like cheating!

  • i still have mi copy

  • THIS GAME IS AWESOME

  • Are you playing this on your PC?

  • @dsboy86 Yes, it is played on an emulator with tools for slowdown, savestates, etc. Read the descriptions for more info.

  • @UoBtExFODA Cool, can you use a control pad or does it have to be the comp keys? I think I played a bit of this when I was a kid but never knew what it was called.

  • Link and an ocarina huh? *smirks* Looking at this now, the game does remind me a LOT of Zelda 2. AND...looks like Simon Belmont at the end :D

  • i've never actually got to the end when i was kid was hades supposed to be invisible??? lol

  • phthia music... so good

  • omg, the first game i've ever seen bunnyhop in. LMAO xD

  • Why is this asshole walking backwards?

  • omg i cant get above this fucking net at 0:50..

  • How do you beat a game in ten minutes?

    Moonwalk.

  • what is tool-assisted?

  • @yoshi109692 Hello. It means that the game was unaltered, but tools were used to help play it perfectly. In this case, the game was played on an emulator at really slow speeds and using savestates to undo mistakes. The point of the video is to find the theoretical fastest possible time the game allows itself to be beat. You can find more of these on the tasvideos website.

  • @UoBtExFODA where can i find it?

  • after you fought the minotaur with that sword i was like daaammmnnnn he really doesnt wanna save up and go through the mountains! you saved up mad quick in the woods.

  • this video is fucking awesome

  • It would be awesome if you spoke to a greek god and got "I am Error" message

  • lol at the olives

  • what the hell? i mean i understand it's tool assisted, but still wow.

  • 06:31 the real power of frame advance.

Great TAS, but i wonder if it has been improved?

  • It hasn't been improved yet.

  • I can see why, this run is hard to improve.

It´s the same thing with Zelda II, it hasn´t been improved since 2008.

Have you been working on something new lately?

  • Where's the pleasure of playing it?

Still remember the old good days till playing it at 1989,was so happy to play a game similar to Zelda II and in the present days I've see only cheats/codes/glitches etc...Most of people hurry for anything, like will live only one day and missing lot of the real fun.

Was so exciting with friends around TV,not at the PC alone with emulator and full of guides in internet, that made us friendly and more smarter with our own effort.

  • your both right and wrong. this is a TAS video which means the point is to finish the game as fast as possible. BUT, you are right when you say that we got smarter from playing 8bit games it has even been proved in science

  • When I played this as a kid I didn't realize how hot they were trying to make the girl. Hot.

  • 6:56 "Die, you bitch!" Minotaur never saw it coming XD

  • This really reminds me of Zelda II

  • What happened with the stair glitch in tartarus?

  • Phunk es ist ab 5:40

  • Cocaine was trendy in ancient Greece.

  • lol

  • They called it Ambrosia back then LOL

  • XD!! Now that's fast.

  • WTF is this moonwalk shit ? :D Is that done with tools or is it a glitch in the game ? :D

  • As you can read in the video description to the right, the glitch is acomplished by simultaneously pressing left+right, and it is not restricted to emulation, although you may have to open your gamepad to be able to press both directions at once, depending on its model.

  • funny ;)

  • AHAHAHA

  • i hate this game it was way to hard for me but you beat the game moonwalk style

  • there was a part where you had to collect red salamander skins for something. but you skipped that!

  • How do you be hades. He has no weakness!

  • I want a 3D-Remake of that game AND Wonderbox on a new-gen-console

  • I was not a big fan of zelda II, but I loved this game. The whole greek mythological atmosphere with one of the best soundtracks EVER in a video game made this one of my favorite games ever. It truly falls into the most overlooked/ most underrated games ever along with blaster master

  • @MZowski83 I cant agree more!

  • it heavyly reminds me of zelda

  • Omg that tune at the forest (0:50) is legendary!! Still Love it!

  • Comment removed

  • man does that bring back memories

  • one of the hardest games of all time IMO

  • LOL TEH ENDING AHAHAAHAH LOL

  • i only wish i could've ran that fast when i bought the game 20 years ago. and yes i did beat it as a lil kid with no game guides.

  • i don't use guides, but i've recent;y become stuck on one game with no way out, so now i'm having to ask people

  • "I also had a very hard time with it when I was a kid, but the music and the gameplay kept me going on and on. I was also very into Greek gods and stuff during that time."

    Seconded ;)

I once, as a kid made it to the final fight but never did I manage to kill him! :( It took me hours to get through Phrygia in order to get the moon thingy from Artemis.. That place must be the hardest area in the game, no?

  • impossible game. so fucking difficult

  • Lol that's brave to fight an invisible enemy with only 1 health and a shitty sword :D

  • Besides the music, it seems a LOT like Link's Adventure (Zelda II)

  • I also had a very hard time with it when I was a kid, but the music and the gameplay kept me going on and on. I was also very into Greek gods and stuff during that time.

Anyway I tried this game again about 2 years ago, and I made it to the final dungeon. Unfortunately, that was impossible for any human being to defeat. Great game anyway :)

  • great game very underated, btw i thought i was the only1 to use link as the hero name lol

  • lol i used to use link as my name in everything..including marble madness but itd be lik or lin in most games haha

  • did u do this with a mod or the nes system and your comp?

  • This was played on an emulator but the game is unmodified. This can happen exactly like this on the real NES, it's just hard to do.

  • love this game..playin now

  • This game was ridiculously hard when I was a kid. I was never able to get really far in it.

  • You could improve this time a little by using the glitch which will get you to the barrier in crete by getting hurt by an enemy.. this would cut out having to get the key in Attica..

  • The key was needed to open the door seen in 5:57. The glitch you mentioned (for the barrier seen in 6:57) isn't useful in this run because you need all 3 hearts to finish the game, and the barrier opens itself when you have 2 hearts. It's also faster to get the other 2 hearts before visiting that last one, so it didn't help. But thanks for ideas, if you have more, please comment.

  • One of my all-time favorite video games. This game had such great music and it was a good adventure game because you traveled greece and visited palaces of the gods and stuff. Cool game

  • Just like Michael Jackson xd

  • how do you only get olives??

  • He probably save stated before killing every monster.

  • LOL. This is about as "tool-assisted" as it gets. =) Good job. It's about time someone pwned this game.

  • perseo got the kaiyo ken...- king kai fist-

  • hahaha good one :)

  • Whats that run backwards BS?

  • In battle of olympus, if you press left+right at the same time he does that.

  • Those bosses look impossible to beat without cheating! Jeez, so much life!

  • It's because I didn't use the most powerful sword! It would take longer to grab the sword than to just kill them

  • 6:56 is just painful ownage.

  • heeheehee! Indeed.

Were there different versions of this game? It's been YEARS since I last played this, but I always remembered there being a cyclops at that part.

  • I cant to thatdamn glitch! And it pisses me off to no end!!

  • what can't you do?left+right? you will need to open your nes controller and push the buttons there inside.

if you're playing on an emulator you need to enable left+right. most emulators don't allow it.

  • Hmm I havent configured my emulator to allow that. Thanks

  • Amazing! You played very well! Thanks for the fun of watching this video.

  • this was my dads fav game when he was a kid =)

  • I'm curious. How old is your dad?

  • You know, there is a way to actually get the third heart without getting the first or second by getting knocked backwards through the barrier. Whether that is reasonable with that little health is a different story. Merely having heart 3 should open Tartarus and the end game.

    Cool vid.

  • This is known, but you really need 3 hearts to finish the game :) Thanks for commenting, it's always useful to double check :)

  • Älska musiken!

  • That was amazing :) Thanks for posting. Best game of my childhood, I remember sitting down and struggling through hours of it. Kudos!

  • 1337

    Totally awesome!

  • Nice opportunity to refresh all the songs in a jiffy!!! ;)

  • Damm it is just like Legend of zelda and i should know becuase im a big zelda fan

  • I was expecting this game to have aged really badly, but it still looks fantastic 13 years after I last played it, lol.

Bloody hard, though. The password system was a nightmare.

  • The 'three-headed guardian' is the kerberos and in actual greek mythology, only the hydra had respawning heads. Kerberos's fur was a blanket of poisenous vipers.

  • lols @ rip off didnt even change the kids name, looks like a fun game thou nice run

  • YOU CHEATER! lmao

    It was cool though!

  • This game was the reason why I wanted to learn that excerpt of Toccata & Fugue on piano over 10 years ago. I think I'd still remember how to play it. Gonna try it on midi-keyboard right now...

  • this is one of the hardest games i have ever played, still got it as well, original box :P

  • Wow that was amazing. I don't care what anyone says, that was still amazing to watch! Nicely done!

  • I thought this was going to be fun to watch, but playing it at warp speed 3 really... REALLY ruins it. I cant see whats going on, and I dont remember it being this way.

Someone should do a non-glitch run of the game.

  • there is one on the website, it is twice as long. you can still find it there.

  • It is a great shame that this game wasn't remade for the SNES or even better the Nintendo 64. Possibly the best adventure game I played that had something to do with Ancient Greece. Thank goodness I still own it lol.

  • Aparently the music played when in the temple of zeus, (or any temple in fact) is a famous song? Can anyone tell me which song it is?

  • It's obviously very famous piece of classic music, but the composer's name slips trhough my memory right now.

ok, I don't know who composed it, but yes it's famous.

  • Bach

Toccata and Fugue in D minor

    youtube (dot com) (slash) watch?v=ipzR9bhei_o

  • Thank you so much!

  • Tried it with an emulator, easy to press 2 keys, it freakes out and goes both ways and you can do a left stab animation with the sword going right.

  • Yes, everything is explained on tasvideos website, just look for it in there (I can't link in youtube comments).

  • Watching it again, love that speed.

  • Speed only works from left to right. If the speed to the right gets too high, it starts going to the left. So I can't use it on all places from right to left unless I have some wall to push on the right side ;) Thanks for comments!

  • His skirt was shorter than hers.

Theres a small part just before the 2 doors maze where speed was not used.

Both the knights and one eyed creatures are similar to Zelda 2.

If you wanna see a rip off compare Doki Doki Panic to Mario 2.

  • Yeah, dude. That's the way they did it in ancient Greece. Dudes wore tiny skirts, and chicks were usually wraped in thick drapes.

  • duuuude ...im soooo fuckin dizzy!

  • This was my fav NES game of all time! thanks for this! just seeing this brings back so many good memories. ;)

  • omg this is a total link 2 ripoff or nintendo ripped them off I don't know. The last guy is a shadow exactly like in link 2. And those knights? Exactly the same!

  • Hmmmm this game looks exactly like Link 2....When he gets hit its the exact same pose, and the grafics are very similar...

  • wow...i never would have beaten this game. i played it when i was younger, like 9 or so, and even with a game genie, it was hard as hell! glad i saw this vid cuz i would never know what it is like to beat it, if not. i got some of the midi's from the game on my cell phone too! they are sweet

  • cool video, I could never make it past the dog as a kid but that is apparantly pretty close to the end so im proud of myself =D

  • I just watched the whole thing and I wanted to ask a question again - did you actually go back each time the enemy you killed in pelopennesus didn't yield an olive? Or is there a way to guarantee an olive every time?

And in the Temple of Hades, if you use the glitch right when you enter you can immediately jump to the platform that leads up to the second level - cutting your time down a bit :)

  • Hey, this is a TAS (tool-assisted timeattack), so it was made using savestates and slowdown. The objective is to show a hypothetically perfect video, it's not about controlling skills. But that's stated everywhere. Glad you liked it.

About the suggestion, yes I've tried that. I don't remember now why I didn't use it, but I probably couldn't build enough speed from the platform... Or if I could, then the enemy there would do more damage than I could take. Too bad though, it was a good shortcut.

  • Nevermind! I was wondering why I just couldn't get it to move faster, when I realized that my Nestopia resets the settings every time I shut off my computer using the power button (I play on the train quite often and just as often realize that I've missed the announcement of our stop; and have less than 10 seconds to grab and go!)

Anyway, one of the settings that got reset was allowing the use of up/down and left/simuright ltaneously. lol

    The rest is still confusing.

  • u can let windows calender remind u

  • Theres like a billion doors, Did you really memorize which way to go or were you reading a guide?

  • I lost alot of sleep over this game. Thank you for completeing it. I needed to see this, however it looks like you skipped some stuff. What about that Giant two Headed Snake? I could never kill it!

  • I aimed for fastest way to complete the game, and killing unecessary bosses is... unecessary :)

  • Fair enough, but I'd like to request an upload in which every boss is defeated.

  • lol, I wish I could run like that :P

  • Played it for weeks when I was a kid. Even today this game has an awesome atmosphere.

  • wow, i never evem got a sword on mine i was trying to kill a half snake half woman and also a lion. Obviously that is not needed, but if i did kill them what would have i got?

  • Those are ridiculously hard without the sword.

  • wooow amazing power!!! thank you very much UoBtExFODA

  • I was Bor on 1980....this game is a part of my life!!!

  • wow... and i thaught i was the only guy enjoying this game back in the days...

  • no me too

  • Really loved this game as a child...

Then again, gamers had a less sophisticated palate back then; you'd pretty much play anything regardless of how good/bad it was.

  • I liked games better back then, FF2, BoE, Crystalis, it was more about story and fun gameplay then pretty graphics.

  • I don't know if I'm alone in thinking this, but this game had some of the best music that I've ever heard for 8 bit. If there were awards for video games back then, it would have deserved to win for best music. (Except for that last bit where he fought an invisible Hades..)

  • This, and Legacy of the Wizard had amazing soundtracks.

  • You're absolutely right. Every level had an excellent track, even its version of Bach's Toccata&Fugue.

The MIDI soundtracks can be founf on seevral sites, including several excellent remixes (check out "With Pegasus/Enter Your Name").

Truly a classic game. And yes, highly under-rated.

  • I remember playing this game all the way through. I found it to be a bit tedious(then again I was about 10 years old when I played it) but not bad overall. In my opinion, Battle of Olympus is one of those games that must be played in its entirety rather than do a speed run. Still, this was entertaining to watch.

  • dont forget the mazes and all that looking for stuff..had to make maps back when i was 8 and had this finally i beaten the game last week haha

  • Highly under rated game. Battle of Olympus captured the feel of what the game was all about and it had a great soundtrack by K Sawa. I think he did the score for Spelunker? I don't know

  • wow, I remember hurling this cart in utter frustration at the age of 13

  • Is it possible to do that crazy leap-run thing on NES?

  • yes, press left and right at the same time. you may need to open your controller.

  • Thanks.

  • wow that speed boost was sick. i wish i knew about that earlier that would have saved me a shit load of time. XD

  • this game is one of the best of the world. They should make a new game of it

  • omg i think that too! they should make a sequel for the newer systems

  • this game was one of te best to nes

  • i admit one of the best games of nes

  • this game is the shit even tho my gf says it sux but i love it this shit was betta than zelda.

  • You're right. This game is hypnotizing.

  • Very cool, too bad the scrolling screens prevent you from turning this into something like the Zelda 2 TAS.
