  • Excellent video. I don't think I've ever quite seen the nuanced distinction between chaos and evil explained so well in such a quick space. It's unfortunate that even the Egyptians lost this distinction over time as Set was re-envisioned as the almost purely evil god of foreigners, in particular the Semites. There are some incredible ironies and contradictions created by that change in depcition for Set.

  • seth (egypt. "setesh") was very popular during early dynasties, king peribsen even bestowed his name to seth and the god was held in highest regards until the first intermediate period, when the egyptian state administration collapsed. since seth was seen as the "he-who-keeps-away-the-foreigners", it was believed that it was his fault that foreign kings took control over egypt during the first intermediate period. this aspect is often ignored today when talking about the oh-so-evil seth... ;-)

  • @dingutscal Brilliant description!

  • @Pagyptsian thx^^ but there is more: Despite Seth was worshipped under ambivalent circumstances -you could actually compare the way of worshipping with some kind of "love-hate relationship"- lots of later kings always seeked adjacency to that deity. The kings wished to benefit from Seth´s bellicious and intimidating abilities and some kings also bestowed their names to Seth: Sutech, Seti I., Seti II. and Sethnakhte are well known examples. ;-)

  • the thing i love about seth is we have the same names

  • As always You give knowledge to the people. Seth wasn't a God of Evil. His opponent, Aapep (Apophis)...that's the One we should fear. By the way, today I celebrated in ancient way Egyptian New Year. 2011-2012 Is the year of Seth

  • @Ranoferhotep Thank you :) I celebrate new year in a couple of weeks time myself. I didn not know it was his year though! :) x

  • @Ranoferhotep

how do you know that 2011-2012 is Seth year?

  • Favourite Egyption God,Hail Set

  • i agree seth is not evil he is awesome and one of my favourite gods

  • It is important to note that the Set slaying of Osiris story is later to Set himself, he was not the God of Chaos but of oposition, of darkness (night and the night creatures in oposition to the sun and it's creatures), of desert (in oposition to the rivers and fertility), of war, of that we couldn't see in the dark, and everything that represented a shock or motion in what should have been a calm life.

This is not chaos against order, is movement and change against stasis and stability.

  • @TheEngarPresence Yes that is very true. Good point.

  • @Pagyptsian

so seth causes storms? not physics?

  • @omnipresent13 Set is a portion of physics. I see the Gods as nature and so nature is physics. Set is a personification of this natural event.

  • @TheEngarPresence Seth was previously a protector of Ra, an aide to the dead, and a GOOD deity. He was demonized by the 22nd dynasty, mostly due to the invasion of foreigners, which he was also God of.

  • @UNSUNGBAND Actually why it was demonized is in full not well understood because there were many places in Egypt that still had Set in high esteem, let's remember that the Egyptian pantheon was not One for Egypt. But wait, I don't think there was any Neter that was Good or Bad, their qualities don't make them either way, Set still was the desert, storm and motion Neter, and in my opinion that is a GOOD thing.

  • @TheEngarPresence Very good point. I think it is fascinating that Set can be contrasted and compared alongside Judaic Seth and the Islamic Prophet Set who's son was Anuesh. I have read further that Set was originally a goddess and claims that this is the origin of women seen as a curse in traditions. Add this to the fact that Egypt interacted with many from different cultures which all had an influence on one another and it starts to make a lot more sense.

  • @TheEngarPresence

    good view

  • WOW this is the best explanation of what seth is. congrats.

    seneb ti

  • @nick7268 Pleased to hear it!

  • @Pagyptsian really its the first time i see somebody making justice to seth

  • @nick7268 Well it is very good to hear that I did just that :)

  • Set is a high god and a manifestation of the pan-dimensional realm Chaos. He usurps the tree of cosmic lies and brings destruction to the laws of Ma'at. He is a model of war against the creation of the tyrant demiurge. Set represents spiritual freedom through rebellion.

    Xeper-I-Set

    Xeper-I-Apep

  • @Xeper218 I tend to feel as if he supports Ma'at. After all he destroys Isfet. And he works as a balance, because you need chaos to weigh against the order.

    x

  • How do you come to the conclusion that these characters aren't real?

  • @MasterOfSpacetime Because I have my own concept of how I see God. If you disagree that is fine, we are both free to choose.

  • The other gods betrayed Ra to find out the secret to his power. Set fought for Ra and was framed as satan. The Chaos that the gods have made is being controlled. They pretend to love Ra but what it all for themselves.

  • @MasterOfSpacetime I think most of the blame on Set comes from his destruction of Osiris, who was very popular. But great point, that he defended Ra when others might not have.

    x

  • @Pagyptsian The Osiris clan are the traitors in the story.

  • @MasterOfSpacetime Hmm, well I don't know. I am impartial to each side. I love Osiris and Set and respect them both. In nature Set needs to kill Osiris.

    x

  • @Pagyptsian Do you know how deep the deception goes. You say you love Osiris, but these types pretend to love Ra to have all power for themselves. To do that to the god of love and except it is to keep a wicked spirit. Ra is the one that maintains order and Seth rides in the bark of eternity to control the chaos through the ages. The rest talk about it how they wish to ride the bark. Osiris can't even where Ra's crown. Are not all these figures real people that have existed?

  • @MasterOfSpacetime I just don't see it how you do. I don't see the myths as LITERALLY HAPPENING. Personally I believe Set DID kill OSIRIS because death must consume life. The desert did dry up the Nile. So I don't believe int he literal betrayal as Osiris is a God of jugdement, life, and justice. Neither Set or Osiris go against Ra as Ra is teh one who created them to be exactly who they are.

  • @MasterOfSpacetime

    good food for thought

  • I think set has been misunderstood and criticized about his looks. He has good and bad features the bad he murdered hishalf brother over jealousy, the good bieng he produced anubis another handsome character. overall i have a statue of him and a picture i have of him on the wall and some on my comptuer. he also corresponds under my birth sign being scorpio i also did afunny quiz and well we;re both been misunderstood get angry because of criticism, jealous, gothic, quiet and most of all chaotic

  • @thehumanracesux I agree :) He is a very strong and admirable character. Everyone has good and bad points and so it important to have that balance. He is also a symbol of balance and we need his chaos to weigh against Osirs' order :)

    x

  • @Pagyptsian indeed he is one of my favourites :)

  • I love your little video, painting Set in a light better then what people usually do.

At times, I too pray to Seth.

  • @DarkArtistKaiser Thank you :) I think it was much needed that he got some support rather than criticism :)

  • Good explanation. I had to back up and watch it since I overlooked this video originally. This is how he is and examples of calling him the christian satan are really just forms o christian heresy and not paganism.

  • @rsoxfan1123 It does annoy me what Satanists claim that they worship Set. I see it as blasphemy almost actually. Out of all the deity videos I htink this is the most important to know due to the massive misconception.

  • Lord Seth seems to me, to have an air of deep intelligence, much like Lady Aset. I picture the two playing sennet for some reason lol. XOXOXOOXOXOXXOOXOX

  • @Darklordsslave A strange image :P But yes I suppose he is very cunning! :)

  • I really love this video, ive always held Lord Seth, thats what i call Him, in high regards. After all He's the protector of Ra like you say, and one of the "Two Lords" with Horus, who represented the upper and lower valleys of Egypt. XOXOXOOXOXO

  • @Darklordsslave Well said :) I wish more people appreciated this. I get highly offended that some satanists get confused and worship him.

  • I have tried to find out about the nature of Daemons, but all that I can find out is that they are not necessarily evil. Do you know any more about them?

  • @MrDemonWorm I'm not entirely sure I'm afriad. I don't actually believe in Daemons, or if I do I don't call them that. I know that Shazzypbear (her username) knows about them though, you should ask her? :)

  • This is interesting. I read somewhere where my Egyptian astrology sign was Seth. Which ironically enough is my boyfriend of 2 years name lol.

  • @ArionCrystal Awesome! I think it's an awesome name. How did you find out your egyptian astrological sign?

    x

  • @Pagyptsian Hold on and I'll see if I can find the link. Im not sure if its accurate but if I find it I'll send it to you =)

  • Ah, Blessed Be, Pagyptsian! I've seen your comments on quit a few of Helenhealer's videos, and I'm glad to see that someone has the same beliefs as me. I am Wiccan, but also strongly believe in Ma'at. In fact, my patron goddess is Sekhmet, and my patron god Bes. It's amazing to see someone stand up for Seth and his good qualities! Thanks bunches!

  • @SarahOasis I love her videos! =] And thanks! Seth definately needs to be understood I think. I was looking into kemetic orthodox but it is too strict for me, I might consider myself a kemetic wiccan though =] Or Tamerian?

    x

  • @Pagyptsian No problem! I'm definitely in full agreement that he needs to be understood. I'd probably be considered Tamerian as well, but I'm still not sure what 'category' I'd be in. I'm a solitary wiccan, I don't work with a circle, and I've kind of developed my own personal way of ritual. 8')

  • @SarahOasis Same with me ^^ My boyfriend complained that I am always trying to fit myself into a category when I really don't fit into any religious ones. But the closest it tamerian wiccan.

Seth helped defeat Apep - he was worshipped because people knew that if he can cause chaos he can also take it away.

    x

  • and what to Osiris??

  • @thegreyorion What do you mean?

    x

  • Thank you for this video! Set is often so misunderstood (like so many darker deities) that its refreshing to see someone stand up for him. Blessed be! :)

  • @CattailLeaf Thanks! I agree, I hear hecate demonised a lot too!

    x

  • I really loved it. Could you tell me the name of the backround music? B.B.

  • I adore this one! Fantastic! Thank you for sharing it! Blessings!

  • Great video! I think its very important for people to understand that each God/Goddess has a responsibility. There are many Archangels who are Angels of chaos, death and violent Earth disasters. xxxx

  • @Helenhealer Defnately agree =]x

  • Nicely done video with great info! I thought this was a great explanation of contradictions and balance! Thanks!

  • This video was informative although I thought the previous one was better. What happened that required you to remove the other video if it's ok to ask?

  • @theyaden I actually agree, it had more detail :/

Well to be frank, there was "too much boob on show" according to my partner :/

    x

  • @Pagyptsian /chuckle... /comfort Sorry to hear and thanks for giving the thought provoking perspectives with these videos. Best of luck

  • Morality to me is a relative term. Humanity often makes a devil out of that which they dislike. Most gods are, in think, like Platos forms or the Egyptian neuter, aspects of nature.

  • @jonthefishboy I agree, just because we don't like something doesn't mean it is evil.

    x

  • Thats a quote from Wallace Budge the Egyptologist. Satan is more than likely a corruption of Set as the Jewish people when slaves of the Egyptians prob adapted their mythology to their own. Some think that Osiris influenced Christianity as you've got the death/resurrection concept.

  • @jonthefishboy I definately agree with the Osiris part. Also the virgin mary and Isis?

    x

  • @jonthefishboy Well.... not with the Jews and Isis, but christians.

    x

  • Set was a beneficent god, and one whose favour was sought after by the living and by the dead, and so late as the XIX Dynasty kings delighted to call themselves "Beloved of Set". After the cult of Osiris was firmly established and this god was the "great god" of all Egypt, it became the fashion to regard Set as the origin of all evil, and his statues and images were so effectively destroyed that only a few which have escaped by accident have come down to us.

  • @jonthefishboy It is a huge shame :(

    x

  • Brilliant video

  • Awesome Vid!!

  • @OneAscension Thanks!

  • Anger, greed, Ego and pride, all are distortions of Fear....who is your enemy, if all are one? yin and yang...positive and negative all are the whole...free will gives you the right to expirence what you need to evolve...as long as you dont enfringe on others free will.....or you might get stuck in karma which slows the evolution process down, until you work it out...karma is ended by forgiveness of self and otherselves. :)
