  • hahaha, yeah build it by Bush's house. I would love to see the controversy on that one, Bush,> "weapons of mass destruction in there,. we have to invade NOW,".. lol

  • Thom, you are very smart and very right about a lot of things but you need to learn far more about Islam.

  • my religious views on facebook says none

  • I would like to start a protest against a strip club degrading the site of the 911 tragity.

I assume all Fox talking heads would be in support of this. Since all cable tv evangelists on porno stations like Bill Keller, are against religious freedom, I will hope that they are against sexually degrading events as well.

  • Keller reminds us that salvation can go to your head.

  • Thom, if the guy you're "debating" is so far overboard that you end up defending Faux and Murdoch, it is not instructive or entertaining, it is just pitiful. Please don't invite him back. I understand that you are trying to show us how to win the water cooler wars. Please invite people you can actually debate, people who have an ability to reason, not people you just end up talking over or talking past. This is just too sad and wastes your time.

  • this means the mosque is being created to purposely to create the anti-Isalm rage we are having.

  • Why aren't we hearing more about this in the MSM?

  • Why is the saudi royal family always involved in everything? When the king's not making out with Bush he's stirring up the nut cases.

  • we dont have page 3 models in australia...

  • Hell yes, lock em up.

  • All very good points but the real issue here is why does he have purple hair?

  • TV is mostly a weapon of mass distraction...especially the Fox Ministry of Propaganda.

  • We should close down Guantanamo Bay immediately. There are a lot of fine prisons in the United States which will do an excellent job of housing the terrorist hosts on Fox News.

  • I think it would be a great idea to let "terrorist" fund the mosque

Less money for guns, more money for NY construction jobs!

  • #WIN #FTW

  • These angry and irrational people need to stop calling this fancy gym/boys and girls club a mosque. Let alone a conquest mosque, sheesh... Like seriously, other then securing financing for realestate (in this economy, that's a conquest) what did they ''conquer''? Are millions of jews, christians and buddhists converting in droves to Islam? This is getting ridiculous.

  • @sidvidle Rauf himself wanted to call it the Ground Zero mosque. The 12th and 13th floors are prayer rooms. Would you feel better calling it a community center with a mosque? In this country we believe in separation of church and state, but most muslims don't. Do you actually believe that Islam is no threat? It's already a threat in western europe. Even if it takes 100 years, it will be a threat in this country. It's a political system cloaked in a religion. I'll C U in sharia court bubba.

  • @megagagnon1 LOL @ Sharia court. Do you know many muslim countries do not have Sharia law in their court system? See, the main problem I have with most Westerners viewing Islam as the same as practiced in Saudi Arabia and some of its neighbours. Middle-East is not where most muslims are! Majority are in Asian and African countries. And any religion will be practiced differently in different regions, some of the local cultures will seep in to it! Just like Christianity's many churches/practices.

  • @sidvidle Most predominantly muslim countries practice some sharia law, yes even in aceh indonesia and north africa. Perhaps you should do some reading before you post comments.

  • @megagagnon1 My parents country is 50% muslim and there is absolutely no Sharia law practiced in the court system. I have also lived in 2 predominantly muslim countries as a child (father exploration geologist, we moved around a lot!), so ya, maybe you should stop reading and actually experience things first hand or educate yourself with more people. No, I don't think Islam is a threat, and Europe is not being ruined, the right-wing in Europe has even more power than in the US, skewed reporting.

  • @sidvidle Name the country.

  • @megagagnon1 Eretrea. Never been so don't make it into a nationalist issue. They have been free of religious nonsense in the political arena for centuries. Why? Because of their unfaltering sense of pride of their country. They all belong, yes, all 9 distinctly recognized cultures, languages (plus arabic and english for commerce purposes with neighbours). No religious tension there (yes even jewish temples stand erect, although the Felasha are a small minority).

  • @sidvidle You didn't even spell the name of the country right. Eritrea, not Eretrea. Free of religious nonsense? As of July 29, 2010, fifty-two Jehovah's Witnesses have been imprisoned in Eritrea for attending their religious meetings and engaging in religious activity. In its 2006 religious freedom report, the U.S. State Department named Eritrea a "Country of Particular Concern"(CPC) for the third year in a row.

  • @megagagnon1 There you go copy pasting data, never questioning it. 52 Jehovah's witnesses are in prison, I have no clue why. All I can say is my aunt who was one (she's passed) and her husband and in-laws were free to practice for over 30 years, they also ran a Sunday school and were both teachers very involved in their community and worked on government projects without any problems. My family is very involved in politics and in the military. How does this prove your Sharia or muslim danger???

  • @megagagnon1 If you want to know which countries I have family members in as well (Europe) here goes; Sweden, Greece, Germany, Italy, France and England. Family of scientists and well to doers, they are annoyingly liberal on fundemantal rights issues but being from a mostly Coptic Orthodox family, they are desperatly right-wing on abortion/marriage/family issues... But a fun ecclectic bunch! Religion is never a topic (just commands respect in my family) but policy? Ughhh, endless discussions.

  • @sidvidle In May 2000, the Ethiopian offensive into southern Eritrea caused some $600 million in property damage and loss, including losses of $225 million in livestock and 55,000 homes. Eritrea's relations with its neighbors have been strained due to a series of wars and disputes. These include an undemarcated border with Sudan, a war with Yemen over the Hanish Islands in 1996, and a recent border conflict with Ethiopia.

  • @megagagnon1 Yes, Eretrea (as I CHOOSE to spell as it is pronounced not how the US/UN have decided to write it) has been invaded many times, what's your point about muslims in that? Ethiopia has had its eye on Eretrea for many years, and was the cause of a very long war. It is a tiny country and has been the subject of many conflicts due to its strategic geography and this for centuries! Ethiopia is US ally and gets many weapons from US. Oh and did I mention oil?

  • @megagagnon1 At least it says Ethiopian offensive. Ethiopia wants the coast, well everybody does. They wont give it up without a fight, ever. The region is the oldest in the world these conflicts seem endless if you try to trace them back. Enjoy your reading if you wish to know more and please also look at different sources, always. And if you can find people with first-hand experience, even better.

  • @sidvidle I think the Christians ought to be giving us 60 virgins also, if we fly airliners into Mosques, or large groups of Muslims. At my age, I am not sure I can handle 60 virgins, but I would like to find out. Those ragheads really no how to motivate their followers. Compare that to sitting on a cloud, listening to Jesus talk. Fuck that!

  • @sidvidle Webster's definition of a mosque: n. A Muslim house of worship. The proposed ground zero mosque will have prayer rooms on the 12th and 13th floors. Places for muslims to worship.I don't know how many are converting (some in prison) but the fact that NYC has 100 mosques and there seems to be a need for this $100 million mosque is an indication that islam is growing in america. Angry and irrational people? Is that how you describe the people who are railing against the burning of a koran?

  • FOX news is a terrorist organization Everyone should spread it. thumbs up.

  • This is why I say it's all a scam from the people that really rule our butts.

  • It's now going by the name "Park 51".

I think the idea of building a christian center near Ground Zero (even on Ground zero) is a great idea (although Bill doesn't represent what I'd want for a Christian center).

I want a mosque, a church, a Jewish temple and a Buddhist temple at ground zero. Sharing parking and other central resources and maybe a banquet hall, auditorium, gym etc.

  • @17R3W I'd like to see a 15 story Darwin fish built there. ; )

  • @JTlovesDexter

I was thinking of an "Atheist temple" instead of the Buddhist temple, but "some" Atheists get really defensive if you point out they have a religion.

  • @17R3W Actually, we atheists don't have a religion, but we do have symbols that reflect our non-belief .

Kinda like having a flag to show what country you live in or support. It doesn't make you religious.

  • @JTlovesDexter

I'm just going to direct you to another Thom Hartmann video.

    /watch?v=08XgoU53WHI

  • @17R3W

Atheism is not A RELIGION a religion implies a set of beleifs and or shared codes/moral doctrines athieism has no such doctrines. There is no prerequisite belief or shared value to becoming an atheist the only requirement is a lack or disbeleif in god.

Religion makes the claim "there is a god" we answer with "proove it" thats is ALL an atheist is no more, no less by definition. You dont get to re-write commonly agreed upon definitions or add new labels to things..

  • @Devofone

Atheism is a religion when it's convenient.

When an Atheist needs legal protection then it's a religion, when the White house is taking delegations then it's a religion.

  • @Devofone You've just defined an agnostic. An atheist doesn't believe there's a God.

  • religion is bullshit
