  • the book was better than the movie, but the movie was also great. It was not a bad adaptation

  • Overall, the movie is great! Basically i love watchmen although i never read the book.

I watched it along with my cousins and neither of them were impressed by it except to me.Zack Synder sureli is a visionary and imaginative film genius. I like his trademark ,especially slow-motion effects and (somewhat over)CGI. But most of people really hard to get impress in that way..

    Anyway, Bravo Synder!

  • This movie is based on the new world order stupid asses WAKE UP??? see shit for what it is. Fuck illuminati

  • @yungfocus19 Yes it is. Watchmen clearly represent "knights of templar" / freemasonry. They are basically covered-secret society. And basically it shows that they are a key player who makes world go round..especially with new world order-related conspiracy

  • @calciumkid85 This had better be sarcasm, otherwise you really are a prize dickhead.

  • @PompamooseMagique why should i? am i wrong?

  • @calciumkid85 Yes. You are. There is no Illuminati. There is no New World Order, and yes I have looked into it before you start, and there is NO EVIDENCE. Yes, watchmen has some interesting political/social themes but nothing to suggest it is made by some shadowy Illuminati threat to our freedom. I mean, fuck, do you even know who Alan Moore is? and what he represents? He's an ANARCHIST for god's sake.

  • @PompamooseMagique what makes you so sure? there is upper layer which is more important than 'NO EVIDENCE' , it is 'NO ABSOLUTE TRUTH'! And you dare to say that illuminati never existed but would you dare to say freemasonry also never did?

And Alan Moore is an Anarchist, so what? that doesn't prove anything. You think ONLY fascism or capitalism that capable of doing such thing? have you ever heard of an idea that merge capitalism and anarchy? or the fact that NWO embraces 'collectivism'?

  • @calciumkid85 There is no NWO. Grow up. And Anarchism is totally against the idea of capitalism and communism so anarchists would not join the NWO even if there was one. There isn't. If you believe the Illuminati, or the NWO or the Bilderbergers run the world you sir, are a fool.

  • @PompamooseMagique how to you explain the amount of pryamyds in the world?

  • @BlowDeBloodyDoorsOff ... Yeah ,there is fuck off pyramid right and the end of my street, next to the mcdonald's and the freemason's temple. (that was sarcasm, I'm assuming you know what that is, which may be crediting you with rather more intelligence than is logical based on your comment)

  • zack snyder is a genius! love all his movies. he makes the best comic book movies.

  • @musakesedzija1

    Christopher Nolan

    Sam Raimi

    Tim Burton

    John Favreau

zack snyder isn't even close to the level of those mentioned, the guy is douchebag with one hit to his name

  • @McLarenMercedes lmao im sorry b ut sam raimi, tim burton and favreau are all mediocre at best. Burton is the most generic director on the face of the planet, all his movies are the same and feature friggin depp. all he knows is gothic. Raimi destroyed spiderman and turned him in a gay dancing fag. Favreau turned into a pussy and gave into the studio and turned iron man 2 into a commercial

  • @McLarenMercedes i'm sorry are you sure you were not talking about yourself?

  • I liked this movie but at the same time i didnt like it, but i enjoyed the comic the most though

  • No offence, but for those who don't enjoy this movie, you probably don't get it. There's so much depth in the movie, unlike most super hero movies. It explores so much themes and theories, like killing 100 to save 1000, whats morality and immorality, and whats true justice, etc. etc. Well, i just thought the movie was awesome. Not a typical super hero movie.

  • Watchmen is just a retelling of the Book of Enoch. Nothing original here.

  • @pingu4u because Angels have you know....emotions...and problems...

  • @xBWillx Not everbody thinks like us friend. I am so with you but people only want to see some super hero kicking the bad guys ass. This movie has a massage that a lot of people dont understand. The world is full of dumb people thats why we stil got war on this planet

  • Zack sure likes Slo-Mo :P

  • @R2R3L4 so do John Woo, Micheal Bay & Christopher Nolan

  • Watchmen was easily one of the best movie's of early 2009.

  • Comment removed

  • lol rally

  • will people stop saying mean things about the movie, its just like the comic just with some things changed and if u hate the movie then you hate the comic and if you hate the comic you are a complete moron because there is a message hidden in the comic

  • Moore tried to write the movie so that Veidt was the hero and Rorschach was the bad guy, but it just didn't work. Despite all the lefty politics, Rorschach, despite all his flaws, is clearly the hero and the leftist utopia Veidt is trying to create is all the more monstrous considering how pointless it was. The USSR collapsed about a year or two after the comic.

  • No it wasen't dumbass. Watchmen fucking rocked. sure it was long, had some sex, non-stop violence, but the ending FUCKING rocked!

  • u guys all suck

  • Watchmen is worth reading as well - because so many comic fans put so much credence in it. For whatever reason, it has resonated well amongst many of the most hard-core fans of the comic book genre.

I don't at all agree with Moore's critique of American exceptionalism and the idea of heroism, and don't like his Watchmen comic. But even I acknowledge Moore as one of the great writers in the comic book field - even though I don't personally like any of his stuff.

  • Being a fanatic fan of something doesn't make that thing any good. Quite a few people thought highly of Das Kapital and Mein Kampf, but that didn't make either of them worth reading.

If you don't like my opinion, too bad. Suck it up. Deal with it.

  • Mein Kampf is worth reading--so that people can understand.

  • To be fair, the movie is much better than Moore's generally crappy, overrated, pedantic comic. But if you're a fan of didactic Left-wing fantasies, this adaption won't make you happy.

  • Moore's generally crappy, overrated comic? Okay there is no hope for you, jump off a building or get the fuck off the internet.

  • why get off the internet seriously if it matters that much to you about who uses it? seriously myaybye you should jump off a bulilding, but yeah the comic is amazing better than the movie in over a billion ways, while I really liked both the comic and th emovie this was just clear they really don't compare and to the other guy....the battles been won, let it go.... Watchmen was'nt a fantasy it was a almost complete reflection of our world and our society,

  • people who likes this film must be kids! LOL

  • of course cause kids life rape scenes, death scenes, millions of people dying, sex scenes

  • not really.

  • prouuuuuut

  • yea I don't think he should have changed the end. The end was the whole point of the book. For me the ending ruined it I dunno about others.

  • The movie would another two hours to explain the squid.

I think it's a very subtle and elegant plot change.

  • Agreed

  • I don't think so. Moore's message was still the same. The character, the anti-hero idea, the whole point of the story was absolutely intact.

  • it was close enough wasi t not

  • Zack Snyder makes damn good movies, but I gotta say...he gives shitty interviews.

  • so the black freighter is going to be integrated into the final uncut dvd?

  • Yes, but not right away. Watchmen is coming to DVD this summer, however the Ultimate DVD (with the Black Freighter stuff integrated) is coming this fall.

  • On the DvD is there going to be an alternate ending with the squid? :D

  • I don't think so, but I was reading about extended scenes, like the Rorschach physoanalysis scene with the doctor, among others.

  • Zack Snyder screwed up his name with this movie....Watchmen is a complete failure!!

  • how in the hell is it a failure??

    it was a great movie

great characters, great story, great visuals

i don't see how people can completely disliked it

  • exactly, as the comic book fan, i liked it a lot, it was definitely hollywoodised with the removal of the squid and more action, but overall, it was good, not a failure at all

  • the only reason you don't like it is probably because you don't understand a shit of the movie...

  • People who read the graphic novel long before the film came out seem to assume that someone who hasn't read it first won't get the film. Well, that's fucking bullshit; this film was awesome for me, watching it before I'd read it, then I read it after and went and saw it again. Still awesome. Sure there are slight deviations, but fuck man, if you think it couldn't have been far worse, you're wrong, and if you think you could have done it better yourself, well, no.

  • Dude, they barely make eye contact... It's weird.

  • snyder is a coke head look at him fidgity as hell sniffin every 2 seconds

  • I was nailed to the chair. I feel like I have to watch it again n again like I felt when The Dark Knight was released back then. Awesome movie with terrific story and visuals. I think it sais it all.

  • It is. Honestly, after seeing 300 back in '07, I went to the cinema with low expectations, cuz I thought this guy won't be able to make such a good movie as he did. I was blown away. Seriously. I've never read the GN myself, and I know that there's always somekinda risk when it comes to adapting a GN to the screen.

But this movie is a terrific piece of art even without reading the GN.

  • You know what whate really sucked ? that they didn't add that 8:01 this song on the Movie. I mean this is like the Main theme of Watchmen. But Nevertheless it is a Cinematic Masterpiece

  • Some people think the movie is overlong and ponderous already, some being bored by the end.

I doubt adding extra scenes in the theatrical release would have made financial sense, as its very long to begin with, though saying that I wasn't bored at all.

In the DVD there will be extra scenes, if not in the first release then the Director's cut.

  • Watchman was the best thing EVER. Ever, ever. I want to go see it again. I've never seen the comic/graphic novel but it was just phenomanal. *Gives the bird to anyone who thinks otherwise* A lot of people are whining and saying it was too hard to follow. What??? Are you kidding me! Grrrr, GO WATCHMAN! wooohooo! (My fav charecter what Dr. Manhattan and his girl...like that seen with her in the bedroom...and the electric shocks....teehee)

  • Read the novel, it's amazing. Read it awhile ago and loved the movie.

  • finally someone with half a brain. and yes the novel is amazing you should read it.

  • If anybody noticed during the opening credits a batman first issue poster was hidden in one of the shots.

  • Okay not to judge this movie yet myself. I didn't watch it yet. (Maybe that's a bad pun Idc.) But why couldn't it of had original DC comics superheros instead of generic superheros which seem like knockoffs of orginal superheros? (Nite Owl-Batman , Dr. Manhattan-Silver Surfer, yeah it's Marvel comics. So what.) Again not judging movie. Also I know that DC Comics changed the characters at sometime.

  • When was Batman and Fantastic 4 written? Because I'm under the impression that Watchmen was written before these. Also, how can you honestly compare Silver Surfer to Dr. Manhattan? Seriously, you can't compare any superhero to that.

  • Looks like Silver Surfer because they both have almost the same look. I didn't say they had the same styles and mannerisms but I think they look a bit alike.

  • Are you serious? Watchmen older? Please do some research.

  • Yeah, I'll get right on that. Are you serious?? Do research? No thanks, why didn't you just tell me.

  • I loved it, best movie ever. go snyder!!! Go alan moore!!!!! Im going to watch it again. Manhattan is badass.

  • agree

  • yes

  • yesterday i watched the film, i never knew about watchmen cause i never liked heroes...but i love this fi´´movie, its epic like lord of the rings, great film and great dircetor!!

  • Opinion seems divided over this film.

1 - This movie was great! It lived up to the hype, and Zack Snyder did a great job with this. Beautiful filming, beautiful CG, mostly true to the graphic novel storyline- didn't sell out to Hollywood.

2 - OMG dis movie is da wurst evar! it ditnt evan hav batman in it lolol! nd spiderman wud beat them all up lol! OH AND dr manhatan was naked GAY LOL LMAO ps i didnt reli understand da storylin cuz im retard

You decide which opinion to take more seriously.

  • 1 - Reasonably thought out.

2 - Superficial and unopen... (Nite Owl is like Batman, minus cool-ass attitude.)

  • Thats the point. The comic book was supposed to have batman and other DC heros but they were later replaced by original characters. Nite Owl replaced Batman but hes completely his own character.

  • where was this black freighter bit in the film? i saw like a poster @ the news stand n thats it...

  • No there is a cartoon of it coming in the DVD version i think.

  • i got it already

    chapter 1

  • oh wicked, where can i get this?

  • Out of all the interviews i haves seen with Zack, yours are the coolest man.

Wen he mentioned Apocalypse Now i got so happy, because its my favorite movie.

  • Do not be fooled by Snyder's shy demeanor. The man's a goddamn genius. The movie (Watchmen) will be great.

  • im watching this on the weekend, I hope its awesome

  • If the movie ends up sucking, I'm killing the guy who cut the trailers for it. It looks fantastic as fukc.

  • who plays rorshach? do you have his interview?

  • Jackie Earle Haley plays rorshach

  • The writer of the graphic novel refuses to watch the movie.

  • He rufuses to watch anyone of his movie adaptions but he doesn't refuse to sign his name for it to be made, Alan Moore is a fool. league of extraordinary gentlemen was bad, but he should be proud of V for Vendetta. I think Watchmen will be great.

  • why is he a fool?

  • All his material is owned by D.C so he doesn't have a choice whether his material is adapted for movies. This is why he set up his own publishing company to retain his rights.

  • Yea DC really screwed Alan Moore over especially with V for Vendetta and Watchmen.

  • A lot of artists are like that. I think they do it to avoid being defined artistically by the films. They're making a clear distinction between their work and other peoples work to maintain their independence.

  • the only opinion i have on non-comic readers that see watchmen and THEN go read it will be very confused since they are changing the ending. they better pay attention!

    trey :D

  • They're changing the ending?

    FUCK!

  • I know. I know.

  • do you know what they are changing it to?

like what happens on their end?

  • V for Vendetta rocked

and hopefully (with Snyder on our side) watchmen will rock waaaaayyyy much harder

  • Lets hope this fim is better than V for vendeda

  • V for Vendetta was awesome

and watchmen will be awesome too.

  • i thought that was a good movie.

what didnt you like about it?

  • I think it just varied from the book so much that it lost ist meaining.

  • Zack Synder is very cute ;D Hes my favorite director.

  • it sucks the pirates arent going to be in it though

  • lulz RORSHACK.

  • Of course they're going to think it's a batman ripoff, they've turned rorschach into batman, which he isn't. He sounds like duke nukem at the moment. rorschach had an awkward unnerving voice not a "it's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and im all outta gum" voice. Search "alan moore reads watchmen" listen to the way the damn writer interpreted it.

  • Zack Snyder is sooo cute

  • I thought I was the only person who thought so. LOL!

  • If Zack Snyder can direct Watchmen I can direct Dune (2010)

  • What? theres a new dune film?

  • blunty's, idn up himself a lil.

  • shit. i want that hoodie.......

  • get a job,there available for sale

  • i think Zack Snyder should make the Halo movie :D i think it would be awesome if he made it XD

i mean 300, omg what a film and i know this film will be just as good

  • Zack seems to be such a nice guy. A guy to hang out with and share a coffee.

  • Dear ol' Snydy isn't very good at expressing himself is he?

  • I for one have never read any WATCHMEN graphic novels, sorry to say. But this movie looks FASCINATING; now I'm not sure I want to read anything before I see the film, because I like surprises, but I WILL be seeing this movie and hope its as good as the previews look. Any suggestions anyone?

  • I'm going to buy the graphic novel before I watch the movie but I agree it looks great. Thats why I wanna read the comics before. All 16 (I think is the total) are in one book at $15

  • *12 comics/chapters* (not 16)

  • Wow, 15 bucks for all 16 issues, thats a steal! Now I'm tempted to buy it, but save it until AFTER I see the film, just to retain the element of surprise.

Is there any one out there willing to take a bit of time, and give me a run down on all the characters: good guys/bad guys. OR if you could direct me to a web site that describes them, I would surely appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance! }x D

  • Oh dude. Please do yourself a favor and get the novel. Watchmen is before anything a literary landmark, and to not experience it first as a novel is really not preferrable. Get the issues. They are worth it.

  • Thank you for that sound piece of advice Reese! I had a mind to buy the entire series in the book as mentioned before, but with that raving endorsement, how can I ignore such an imperative?

Along with WATCHMEN, are there other super hero groups you like comparable to aforementioned?

  • I'm not very good with comics, but I know the Bone series by Jeff Smith is a good read.

  • batman is a watchmen rip-off

  • FAIL... You've obviously not read it. Its nothing like Batman... Just... fail...

  • They are nothing alike.

  • batman and watchmen are nothing alike!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yeah whoever's saying that just bases the opinion on that one shot of nite owl hitting the street.... ignorant fuckers...

  • Yeah, you've obviously analysed both comic book series' well.....

  • they are nothing alike!! thats just idiodic. you obviously have not read watchmen.. or you've never seen or read any batman

  • Excited to the point of BalljuicynessSPLASHsquirt and hoping to spread on the person in the row ahead. Hope all who read and are reading this GN will truly apreashhhhh this damn movie, cuz i know i will....if not for the story at least Visually we can truly give it props....

  • To anyone who thinks I'm an ass because I think Zack talks like a idiot I'd hate to hear your vocab. 300 was shit. Watchmen may end up being good but even a fair director should be able to make a good movie out of the material. I mean it's the only graphic novel in the 100 greatest novels list

  • 300 was shit... But it looked beautiful. Zack didn't write the shitty story.

  • i agree with crooked's comment, the black freighter is totally necessary and crucial to the comparison of Veidts decision and quick discussion wiht Manhatten. And it is an awesome side-story to have some black kid readin next to a newsstand. it gives you simultaneous storyline. I think Zack Snyder is the only director who could actually take th book and think logically how to do it. And by the way, 300 DID NOT HAVE TOO MANY SLOW MO SCENES, if anything it didnt have enough.

  • The black Freighter was a pain to me, some parts were cool and brutal, but meh...

  • my ONLY fear is too much slow-mo [it looks like 300 which had too much slow-mo]

  • Zack seems like an illiterate moron. I worry a movie in this guys hands. Anyone who raves about 300 is a fucking mindless nub

  • not because you say so, bastard

  • dont be a douchebag, give him a chance

  • Zack is not moronic, though his style in 300 was a bit.... mindless. but then again it was Frank Millar the Terentino of comic books, mindless. and it better not be all slow motion!

by the way, if you say nub.... just wow. if your out of grade 5 and are still saying nub... i will be done.

  • The black Freighter's being released as a direct to DVD animated movie with Gerard Butler as the voice of the dude. In the director's cut DVD release it'll be mixed into the movie just like the novel.

  • if you think about it this movie wouldn't have been made if it wasn't for David hayter

  • Snyder said they wanted to keep the Black Freighter story seperate otherwise there would be way too much to incorporate in the movie and it would be too long so theyr gonna make it seperately

  • SPOILER: I read the script that David Hayter wrote for the movie in '03. In that form of the script, the squid was taken out for a solar beam/ray that Veidt had focused in on the planet. It's all a possibility that Snyder had changed the script since then, but it doesn't seem that probable. Personally, I think it's a decent decision especially since there isn't much backstory to the whole plot like the novel. Some other craziness has been added, but you'd just have to read the script.

  • The movie BETTER live up to the book.

  • its already hasn't

  • Looks promising

  • this guy doesn't seem very smart does he?

  • Why, Adrian Veidt, WHY?!

  • crap i want one of those watchmen shirts!

watchmen is the best graphic novel!

  • whoever reads this first PLEASE reply.watchmen cannpt work without the squid, because without the threat of an alien attack there would be NO POINT in veidts actions. from looking at all the media of the film we can see that all the events within and up to the ending are the same, so how can it work without the squid. WATCH THIS VIDEO!!! does snyder say FOR CLEAR CERTAINTY that the squid is gone? doesnt he just suggest that veidt will die? someone help i need REASSURANCE!!!

  • It's in one of the scripts that Dan kills Veidt. As for the squid, I think it's gone but I hope not, but it's seeming like it is. From what I've heard Veidt is supposed to basically frame Dr. Manhattan for what happened instead of it being the Squid. Which does work but not quite as well.

  • thanks for the reply man. im thinking thats how it ends. more based on the charicters than the story of the squid and the island. its gonna be amazing, if you consider that the charicters are essentially the life of the story. :)

  • *spoilers in my comment*

ya, but if thats the case, what is there for the comedian to discover on the island, it seems nothing, but then why would veidt go after the comedian?

  • SPOILER@#$% perhaps, depending on the scheme that veidt devises in the movie, the comedian would have to somehow get a hold of the plan, and the list with moloch and slater. i dont know, i am still hoping its just a publicity stunt or something, and that somehow the squid will be in the film. it would take a lot of screentime to build up the story of the conspiracy, and a lot of people are simply too stupid to understand the POINT of the squid.

  • yeah dude psychic squids gotta be tehre

  • wat do u mean squid?

  • That's EXACTLY why Snyder was asked, "Is there ANYTHING MISSING from this adaptation?"

  • yes, everyone knows that it is a MULTIDIMENSIONAL EXPLODING squid. gosh!

  • I hope they at least kill Rorschach

  • Go check out the Trailer one more time... i think you'll see it...

  • I actually think the idea of blaming a nuclear Holocaust on Dr.Manhattan is more effective than the squid because the end result is based upon principles already grounded in their world making it more believable. Those principles being that Dr.Manhattan actually has the power to do such a thing. The idea's behind what happens remains pretty much the same and that's by far the most important part. Its not so much how it happens, but rather why it happens that makes it significant.

  • thats true, but the only important aspect of the plan is for it to lead to a cease fire, but i think that the idea of making dr manhattan the enemy of the soviets would simply PROVOKE MORE war rather than lead to peace. unless, manhattan destroys the enemys resources to attack, but that was not Adrian's plan for peace.

  • but manhattan is also framed for attacks over the rest of the world, including america.

  • One must remember that the squid was suppost to be a nod to the ridiculous plots of the old comics, the movie is sort of a nod to comic book movies.

  • That's a very good point, but it looks as though (and I might be wrong on this), but it appears several different cities spread all over the world are involved in the attack. I think that's the only way to put people all over the world in an weakened state. I believe if this is the case it becomes a little more universal? Who knows. We'll just have to wait and see. Either way, I thinks its gonna be terrific. I think Snyder's the real deal.

  • the characters are perfectly understood,so the acting and the portrayal of the social aspect&the impact of their separate decisions&the decisions and outcomes of society, all this will play heavily on all of them as superheroes and as a society in whole.this aspect of the comic remains true.SNYDERsaid that even though he squid is gone the ending still places them all in the same social dilemmaSPOILERdan witnessing Rorschach's death is gonna be a meltdown of a scene.

  • Nice interview, I can't wait for this movie :)

  • fuck you snyder!

  • did zach just say "Utimate Watchmen",,,,,,oh shit

  • this gunna be really wierd because just like snyder said this going to be his interpratation of what he thought were the most stand out events but the book its self is so in depth that youre almost encouraged to find your very own nitch rather then get on a big broad basis and im really scared as to how thisll all turn out i guess

  • I don't like Blunty but this interview was okay.

  • Blunty well done :D
