Why is it mean to feed the rats to snakes? Snakes have to eat too. As long as you put the rats/mice to sleep first it should be no issue. Just like us eating a hamburg.

I've witnessed many rats giving birth considering the fact I used to breed them.You shouldnt put rats in cedar shavings,they can get breathing problems easily,keeping them out of that will prevent this.Nice video:)
And for the record, Carefresh is just as bad and can carry mites, and is fairly dusty. Fleece liners are a great choice. Although carefresh is higher up their, its not the best.
PLEASE take them off the woodchip. It kills!! Use some paper litter but not woodchip. It really is the worst thing you can do for them. There are many paper cat litters, and some good rat litter - carefresh for instance. I'm so glad you are not feeding them to a snake!

I have four rats love them to bits. And I'm glad that you didn't feed the rat to your snake. Feeding live rats to pet snakes can be dangerous because even though you might think the snake is bigger and stronger a rat could do some serious damage to your snake. So it's better to feed your snake already dead frozen food. Safer for your pet.

In that case sasha, I really hope you lied about owning a snake. Feeding sausages to a snake is the most ridiculous, dumbest shit I've ever heard. And if so your snake would probably starve or die from lack of protein if you would force feed it. Snakes don't eat sausages and they never will.

i just got 2 new rats from a pet store that was mixed genders about 4 days ago and ones stomache seems to be kind of hard and full. i put toilet paper in its hide house and the last 2 mornings there has been light light red barley noticable red splotches alover the toilet paper. is this a sighn of pregnancy?

When will people ever learn that pet rats do not spread disease, just because their wild form does? In many European countries, wild dogs and cats are a HUGE problem, but no one calls pet dogs and cats filthy, just because of that. Pet rats are lovely, intelligent animals. I cuddle and kiss my rat boys a lot, and I've never been sick because of that!!

I totally agree with you I have 6 rats and my friend owns a snake, I HATE it when she talks about how she feeds it. I don't understand why hamsters are more popular than rats, they are really mean and not that bright. I know if the rats had shorter tails they would be more popular sigh...Snakes are also extremely privative and it can never love you back, it would even eat the owner if it were big enough.
hamsters are more popular because everyone things of rats as discusting creatures as they are wild scavangers well the ones that aren't pets. but they are fantastic creatures and snakes suck.
I recently acquired a breeding pair of rats so that I can feed their offspring to my two snakes.
I will not be feeding live as I feel it is cruel to the rats. They will always be prekilled, there is less risk to the snake and more humane for the rat.
I know they eat live in the wild, but if you really wanted them to have the most natural habitat you wouldn't own a snake at all.
To all the rodent lovers you need to face reality.
I love rodents too but I also know my snake has to eat.

That cage is fine size for a "maternity" cage....but buy a larger one for them (if you don't already have one)....Try your local freecycle.

Actually not all woodchips are bad. Aspen is just fine for rats. There are no natural odors in it so it does just fine for their respiratory system.

When will people ever learn that pet rats do not spread disease, just because their wild form does? In many European countries, wild dogs and cats are a HUGE problem, but no one calls pet dogs and cats filthy, just because of that. Pet rats are lovely, intelligent animals. I cuddle and kiss my rat boys a lot, and I've never been sick because of that!!
I think she's a pretty mommie. ^^ I'm glad to read that you keep her as a pet now!

My pet rat is due today, and i kiss her all the time. when she climbs into my shirt, sometimes her tail goes into my mouth lol. they are actually the cleanest out of the rodents.

I'm so glad you're keeping them as pets. If you watched that rat give birth and then fed them to a snake that would just be horrible. They really do make wonderful pets.

i have had rats and i also have a snake. i love my rats and i think the snake is a very cool pet but i'm very conflicted about feeding the snake rats. i feel a bit better when using the frozen snake feeders but i guess there's no resolution.

I hope demigod8 gets eaten by a snake. Get the snake to hunt for the mice instead of sticking it in a tank with the snake, otherwise you'll just have a fat lazy snake! I don't see the appeal of owning a snake. You can't play with it, hug it, teach it tricks etc... it's just a tool to look tough. I am biased as I have 9 rats, so each to their own. Feed it Hamsters, they're evil bitey creatures lol!

I totally agree with you I have 6 rats and my friend owns a snake, I HATE it when she talks about how she feeds it. I don't understand why hamsters are more popular than rats, they are really mean and not that bright. I know if the rats had shorter tails they would be more popular sigh...Snakes are also extremely privative and it can never love you back, it would even eat the owner if it were big enough.

hamsters are more popular because everyone things of rats as discusting creatures as they are wild scavangers well the ones that aren't pets. but they are fantastic creatures and snakes suck.

I recently acquired a breeding pair of rats so that I can feed their offspring to my two snakes.
I will not be feeding live as I feel it is cruel to the rats. They will always be prekilled, there is less risk to the snake and more humane for the rat.
I know they eat live in the wild, but if you really wanted them to have the most natural habitat you wouldn't own a snake at all.
To all the rodent lovers you need to face reality.
I love rodents too but I also know my snake has to eat.
