I have every album Loudness put out....the double live album is with a doubt their best, but I still think Akira has no equal as to talent.....I do like Petrucci an awful lot, but when I saw Akira and Loudness just about 4 months ago, he was still the amazing guitar player I remember of the 80's. He gained some weight which I guess is to expected but I got to watch from arms length for 90 minutes............and stood their slack-jawed in awe of abilities and style...
@terrormonkey1 ......Akira no doubt got influences from many players...but Rhodes is the dominant player her patterned himself after, Loudness was just in Phoenix, Arizona where I live and they played to only about 50 people at Club Red.....I asked who his main influence was (which I already knew the answer because I have been following him since about 1983) and he infact said Rhodes....but then went on on to mention a few others, Malmsteen, Hendrix, Leslie West....and others...
An amazing and extremely overlooked guitar player of the metal era! My brother bought this album from Eide's Record Store in Pittsburgh as an import! Great stuff! Thanxs for posting!
My mom went to see Loverboy and Loudness opened for them - I couldn't believe it - I was just a kid but was so pissed I couldnt go see them live. My mother was impressed with them and told me all about em!
There are dam few guitar players in the world that can do what Akira does, he is without a doubt the best metal guitarist on the planet, his style is reminiscient of Randy Rhodes, but a little more polished. This is what Rhodes would have sounded like had he lived, not exactly, but real similar. Randy was Akira's inspiration, and you can hear it in his playing and dexterity......
I thought I would seen something else...disappointed. I´ve seen this before....sorry. Check out Jason Becker, well, now he is sitting in a chair and can´t move a finger, BUT when he could...ohhh....he was probably the most greatest guitarist in the world.
Must say, I love the solo in "danger in love"...amazing.
Holy shit, this is like the Asian equivalent of Yngwie Malmsteen, great and underrated player. It was a coincidence I started listening to Loudness, because you never hear about them. Such a shame.
AKIRA WAS DOING THE CLASSICAL STUFF BEFORE MALMSTEEN....HIS TONE IS LIKE A VIOLIN WITH DISTORTION....WONDERFUL....BIT OF GARY MOORE AND SCHENKER IN THE LAST MELODIC PART...BUT TO ME AKIRA HAS HIS OWN STYLE.....GREAT.........
I have this on vinyl, since 1983....Akira makes todays "metal" players look like amatuers.....have seen Loudness 4 times back in the 80`s...and they kicked everyones ass in the day...and still do!
@Lotusdragon - I would pay good money to have seen that! :D Especially back then, they would have become best pals imo -Eruption vs Exploder . . . Oh My God!!! XD
I saw Akira shopping in Hollywood in '86, I was so pumped that I grabbed his hand and shook it. He backed away and bowed, major blunder on my part - awkward moment. He's up there with EVH, Rhoads, Schenker, Gary Moore, Blackmore - a wizard and guitar genious. Hail Akira!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the best heay metal bands of the 80's. Way too underrated! They were 100x better than some of the glam crap metal that came out in the US in the mid to late 80's. I saw them with my boyfriend at Club Manhattan in NY. I just let my 14 yr. old son listen to them. He really likes their old and new stuff
omg i get goosebumps and that only happens when i hear insane amounts of godly fathoms of real music... i don't even get this feeling from EVH most the times
Wow. I have this video on VHS for more than 20 years...
I've always liked Akira. But authough Exploder is a good guitar solo there's no deniying that this is a Eruption ripp-off. Even the name is similar, not to mention the tapping lines, the tremolo picking, the dive bombs, the flanger-finger tricks and all. But it's a very good solo even so. And I love the little instrumental afterwards.
wooo... i would love to see them live... i am 20 now.... i am from argentina... they are not known here... if i am the only one that listens to loudness here it wouldnt be that crazy lol...
Akira is one of the fastest and greatest shredders left that still doesn't get the recognition he deserves! Get goose bumps everytime i listen to his solos. This band was awesome too,so much talent and no recognition really pisses me off! Loudness rules!
@zerocrunch They probably did, on the Japanese version. Akira is all over the place in Japan. But since Loudness lost their US contract in '90, there's no way to release it in USA.
I saw Loudness back in 84 when they toured with Motley Crue (or was it 85?)... Anyhow I was blown away and became an instant fan... Akira is one of the best all time in my opinion!!!
I saw him in 1986 live. I reached up and took the purple studded armband off his arm while he was playing and he got PISSED! He almost stopped playing to come after it. He would have after the song, so we took off. But he was one bas ass mothertrucker!!
maybe you need a picture of one of his picks and the armband itself which has been cut in half lengthwise to split evenly amongst my cohort........mmmmmm??
Akira was like the perfect cross between Eddie Van Halen and Gary Moore when he was playing hard rock/metal without sounding like either. There weren't 10 players in the world better than Akira in '83.
i picked this up on vinyl import back in 84, i didn't know who they were, but i never heard a japaneese HM band back then, so i payed like 30 bucks for it, and needless to say i was blown away. Akira was one of my first influences along with Randy Rhoads and Yngwie.
I agree with your comment i was blown away myself when i first heard Loudness. I am also a huge Yngwie Fan and was suprised he came to San Antonio Texas 2 perform in a small rock club. It was awesome because i got to be so close i was able to hold his guitar when he lowered it into the audience to me while it was still playing
