Just because you heard the whistle doesnt mean you can stop protecting yourself... mccoy was notorious for stopping early or not protecting himself. not to mention that in this case its pretty obvious that Mccoy didnt even hear the whistle till pretty late... he's still looking down field to throw the ball up until just before the hit is delivered.

Right, they could have thrown the yellow hanky on him. It seems maybe that's one of the factors that keeps both sides so stirred up over this play, but not as much as it is a TX v OU thing. I didn't foresee that it would morph into a trash talk msg board.

@jbntx It's kind of like the year before in the RRR when the Texas kicker was blatantly obvious in faking getting hurt so the ref kept throwing the flag even though he wasn't even touched. But of course, Texas fans weren't outraged on that game.

Just because you heard the whistle doesnt mean you can stop protecting yourself... mccoy was notorious for stopping early or not protecting himself. not to mention that in this case its pretty obvious that Mccoy didnt even hear the whistle till pretty late... he's still looking down field to throw the ball up until just before the hit is delivered.

as a lineman, its very easy to get caught up in the play. depending on how focused on the game you are, you may be too excited or focused on other things and a noise like a whistle could slip by your mind.

If you look at the offensive lineman... they didnt stop either.. NONE of the lineman heard a whistle.. and any dumbass texas fans want to talk smack about they beating us.. he is a stat u need to look up on.. Oklahoma has the most wins, longest number 1, highest winning %, second most championships, most conf. championships in the modern era of football.. (since WW2).. considering those facts.. Oklahoma football is the greatest dynasty in college.

It's funny that Colt is the only one who stopped moving when the whistle blew. Everyone else keeps running the play. maybe because they can't hear the whistle. Besides Texas fans, it's football. whether the OU guy heard the whistle is irrelevant (you won't find any "excessive noise penalty exclusion" rule on the books). you need to throw a flag there to show that you are protecting the QB. it wasn't a cheap shot, but that's a penalty, plain and simple.

What the heck were those refs thinking? That Oklahoma player hit Colt McCoy definitely three seconds after McCoy came to a stop due to the whistle. That should not be exempt at all.

Everyone one is entitled to their opinion here less any profanity, but I have to say after a LOT of study of this play... you must have been watching it in slow-mo to get 3 secs after McCoy finally quit looking for his receiver. In real time, it's somewhere between 0.6 & 0.9 secs before English had any indication McCoy gave up on the rec. And English is going full blast as one of the fastest DE's in the NCAA. Go figure. It wasn't malicious. It was late, but not malicious.

Actually, bigravensfan21 is right. The first whistle is heard a bit before second 7', but let's just assume it's at 7' at the latest. The QB sack happens at 10'. Another poster said it as it is, it should be a penalty, malicious or not. If it HAD been malicious kick the player out of the game.

Listen people OU is going to the national championship and i am pumped for that, BOOMER SOONER. And i can see why people think texas should go but the rules were set man. The rules for a three-way tiebreaker(the sixth one in the rule book) said that whom ever is rated higher in the BCS will go and i'm sorry but the texas, texas tech and Oklahoma football programs all had to agree on that but i'm sorry texas :( thats the rules. Doug Flutie played for Boston College from 1981-1984. The last time the Boston College Eagles played the University of Oklahoma Sooners was in 1950 and that wasn't a Championship Game.
