Not only could he write great music and sing like an angel, he is one of maybe two rock musicians that can do other peoples songs and not mess them up, and maybe improve them a little. I can't say he improved Voodoo Child by Jimi, and he wouldn't say that, but he gave it his own magic. Taxman by the Beatles, the same thing, didn't mess it up and gave it a new dimension. That kind of genius is a rare thing. I hate the way some musicians now mess up good songs, like Beatle songs.

The thing about SRV is that he took the raw emotion from the 40s and the 50s and he modernised it. So not only is his playing face-melting, it's packed with raw emotion and spirit. Stevie Ray was a phenomenal guitarist and shouldnt be compared to anyone as that would be an insult to his memory.
