I happen to own the arcade version of Gradius II : Gofer No Yabou as part of the Gradius Collection on the PSP, and it is much easier than the NES version (at least the first two stages are), but I also happen to like it more. And the music in the arcade version is just terrific.
wii one is from turbographx 16 bit, so its enhanced graphics and music comparatively. Its hard too, but a bit easier than what I'm seeing here.. no giant red "Atoms" or ship-spawners between the stars.
When I did play GradiusII, the first thing it reminded me of is Gradius IV for the PS2. The first stage is the same, except the "Stars" are blobs of liquid metal and the end boss is different.
The key to this game, like any Gradius game, get them options going ASAP!
And your initial impression of this game was EXACTLY the same as mine, but with some determination and good healthy gamer rage, I managed to get good at this game. Now I can get thru the game without dying. But that fuckin second level, grrrrrrrr! DONT DIE IN THIS GAME, youre fucked and NEED to figure out a patchwork configuration for whatever level you die in, just dont die in the Moi head level.
Cool review of the first half of the first level homie!
