  • Kahogo is in Tanzania so it could be his home town East Africans have free passage between Kenya Tanzania and Uganda. Nairobi is his place of work.

  • Now I'd call that a beautiful example of making something work with what you have. Did you notice how true the grinding wheel was running, too? It looks ghetto, but it looks mechanically very sound. I'll bet he can get extremely workable edges off of that!

  • i love it when people make their own tools not like those lazy-ass fuckers that buy almost everything from a store even the things that can be made at home for 5 seconds

  • u r funny!!

  • the biking knife sharpener is but 1 ex of how "diligent ones" can use resourcefulness & initiative to make an honest living, even under difficult economic circumstances

  • I know what religion you're in :P

  • that is such a simple and creative way to sharpen a knife way to go

  • Very impressive!

    developmentcrossing(dot)com

  • Simplicity we use to survive. This brother is what ifika(dot)net is looking for. What's his contacts?

    Kenyan in the building....

  • Those are some SWEET PANTS!

  • Knife sharpening can you lots of cash if alot of restaurant owners know you because good knives dont get replaced by chefs and they get pros to do it but im not so sure about this guy BUT I WANT ONE

  • coollllll!

  • Technical reply... As this guy is only sharpening the blade with the wheel turning relatively slowly ( about 300 revs) and there are no sparks, he is keeping the cutting edge fairly cool and so not softening the edge and he gets the cuting best life. Compared to the many guys on you tube using very fast wheels (3000 revs)lots of sparks and who get a soft, short lasting cutting edge.

  • poor ppl have to be creative all over the world

  • exelent ingenuity

  • DID HE USE THAT KNIFE TO STEAL THE BIKE

  • are you stupid?

  • That commet you replied to is worthy of praise... A. its fucking halarious, B. it is sweet, sweet ironyat play. How would like to be held at knifepoint and get your bike stolen only to walk past it the next day, seeing it turned into a knife sharpener? i doubt mvadinam540 new the halarity of his comment but you should...

  • WOW!!!

  • Resourceful.

  • Some people are missing THE POINT. It's not posted for entertainment value! It's posted to show the value people can add to there own lives, and that should be admired, not dissed for having been 'done before'!

  • He's also getting a work out.kahogo what all 3 people say in the begining, what does that mean ?

  • Kahogo is his name.

  • Wow thats genius. Hope you make a tonne of money selling it!

  • Creativity and ambition collide!

  • bloody good idea, LOL

  • Who is that knife meant for? Why would one need that?... unless of course a rival bicycle messenger tried to force you off the road...

  • brilliant!

  • hahahaaa??????? fuking sheet what the hell it's that 1/5

  • Indeed, here in Mexico its completely natural. And indeed, third-world technology, why did you amaze?!

  • Well...you can't blame them - can you?

  • what's special about that? we have that in the philippines as well. go live in the third world.

  • haha, pretty fuked up country right there.

  • whats so fucked up about that u FAT,diseased white trash carcass, nobody forces u to watch videos.Burger fat legs with strange disease

  • the guy under me is a douche

  • How the hell can they afford a camcorder??????

  • cool

  • That's fuckin ill.

  • I hate to ruin it for you guys but, he is rehearsing many many circumcisions!!!

  • It's a workout, and a tool sharpener at the same time.

It doesn't get any better than that!

  • wow, that is pretty orignal...really nice

  • this is very comon in india they even sharp knives fix umbrellas

and make duplicate keys [all this and some other things too on the spot]

  • lol cool

  • lol

  • "You mean I can work out and sharpen my American Killing Machete at the same time?! Where do I get one!"

  • You doosh, this is in Kenya. And not everybody in Africa is holding anti-American sentiment.

  • it's good for fitnesssss

  • Not to dismiss his ingenuity, but this has been done for decades in Portugal for example.

It was common to see a man walking a bike, playing a pipe to announce its business around town. They would sharpen knifes, fix umbrellas and do some other small work.

Haven't seen them in the last years though.

  • i dont think anyone ever said this was unique...

  • Just stating a fact, viewers seemed so amazed at the idea...

    It even got featured.

  • This guy is gonna be a billionaire as soon as some big multi-national corporation buys the patent rights and starts mass producing this amazing device!!

  • love igenuity! (hmm dunno if i spelt that correct?)lol

  • interesting

  • wow cool! the aficans are creative!

  • he could have taken a few minutes and centered the pulley on the rear wheel a bit better. He's gonna get rich sharpening knives on his bike.

  • Finally! A way to combine my two favorite activities!

  • HAH!!! That's bloody brilliant! ;p

  • Love it. Wonder if I could adapt that to Paris - where I live? BTW The Paris Town Hall are installing rental bikes all over the city at the moment.

  • This guy is awesome. What he's doing embodies human spirit. If there are any Hollywood screenwriters out there looking for something new, or an interesting basis for a character, look no further. This guy is inspiration.

  • I gotta ask this. does he ride the bicycle to work too? :P

    that idea is genius

  • Yes he does, the article says he uses it as a mobile workstation on the Afrigadget blog. His resourcefulness and the economics behind his business are first rate. Nothing as cool as the applications of human ingenuity.

  • what an enterprising idea.
