@Ronald3570 Mostly aesthetics, each has its fans but from a security standpoint there is no difference. If your in a wheelchair or the safe is in a place you can open the door very wide (180 degrees) you can go for external, if you have it cramed in a garage, in a corner, or in a closet, you'll have more access to the inside of the safe with a internal hinge.
I like the way the "kool" guy in the black cloths, bald head and doing the talking jumped like a little girl when the safe hit the house @ 00:48 Thanks i needed a good laugh this morning.
Most people need some help getting safe doors open after drop and fire tests (just like the real world).
As this was an endurance not a burglary test, this safe was latched but not locked (bolts out, combo not spun). Fort Knox gun safes are considered by experts to be the finest gun safes in the world today.
If you would like to see more of Fort Knox check out the Youtube Video Army Tank cant crush gun safe
So why don't you try dropping the safe onto a thick slab of solid concrete instead of a nice soft house?
Now let's see the safe stand up to two determined men armed with 48" pry bars and wedges. Which is the sort of attack that you SHOULD be planning for as it's the easy way to bust a safe.
You can always get a slab of concrete, but you cant always get a house.
We did take a video of four guys attacking a Fort Knox with 5 pry bars, wedges, etc. but after the first few mins, it was so mind-numbing and lengthy we wont even watch it.
Want to see a good pry check out the Box Store safe in the video Racing to the bottom way more fun. Youll love it.
When you have an intense fire the dial and dial ring just met off, the combo lock inside the safe still works but you'll still need a pro to get it open.
2) The safe was latched but not locked (bolts out, combo not spun). This was a fire and drop test only. Your right, the safe needed some help to get the door open (this is very common) probably due to the two 100 foot drops, fire, and water.
Although not in this case water often gets into safes that go through a fire, fireman will unknowingly blast a water stream through the smoke seals in an effort to cool the safe down. We often recommend putting paperwork into turkey cooking bags (from you supermarket) they will take the heat and are water resistant.
did he just pry open the safe!?!?! at 4:22

@blowupuate13 The safe was never locked just latched, but it did get tweaked a little in the two fall so he needed some help free it up.

I like what I see about Fort Knox safes. The only reason I didn't consider them when I bought mine was I didn't see any with external hinges.
l337pwnage 1 year ago
Fort Knox gives each customer a choice if internal or external hinges as well as left or right hand swing at no extra charge.
granadajohn 1 year ago
@l337pwnage whats the difference between external and internal? as far as benefits go i mean.

Very sorry to hear about your house. You should call Fort Knox, if your the original owner of the safe they'll send you a new safe.
granadajohn 2 years ago
the safe protected the deed to the house that just burned down lol.
btw, the interior of the safe was damaged although not badly but still damaged.

At 2:58 into the clip it shows a safe that looks half melted. What brand was the melted safe?

That guy was an idiot for shooting the safe without being behind good cover.

1) Did water get into it? Because that could destroy doccuments.
2) How did they open it? Did the tumblers still work? I saw them go at it with a crow-bar, but that could just mean that it warped/fused shut.
All-in-all, quite nice.
